His pro homework argument is so anecdotal it hurts. Not everyone learns through repetition and forcing everyone to do homework or fail is pointless and counterproductive. Especially in math where once you get the concept repeating a variation of the same problem 20 more times feels like busywork. Let me give my counter anecdote. I never did any homework and was still passing tests with A/Bs because I learned best by listening to the lecture.
Yeah. Homework helps some people, but not all. How the fuck do you expect teachers to know that, exactly? Ask kids politely whether they think homework helps them or not? How many 12 year olds do you think understand how much homework is benefiting them?

Given the choice, no kids will ever do homework. You can say shit like "Oh it'll be hard to do so why bother haha sarcasm" but can you ACTUALLY come up with an alternative.
Matt Gleave make everything coursework oriented and base grading off that, then provide optional extended learning tasks if people so desire. this results in a self motivated learning environment in which people can revise if they feel they need development, but doesn't penalise students that don't benefit from that.
