Okay then please explain why my finger nails feel extremely heavy and suffocated when I put nail polish on.
I can put 1 thin coat, be very careful to only put it on the nail itself- not on skin, and make sure there's no clumping. But still, it feels extremely heavy immediately, even with one light stroke.
When products say "breathable" I'd imagine their formula is lighter to help people who experience what I do. Just a theory tho.

      Permeability
Nails are more permeable than skin, allowing substances to soak in. Nails are about 1,000 times more permeable to water than skin.
      Composition
Nails are made of keratin, a protein that's protective but not impermeable. Nails also contain 7-12% water.
      Absorption
Substances applied to the nail bed can enter your bloodstream and nervous system. For example, toxic nail polish can sink into your bloodstream.
      Dehydration
Nails are more absorbent and more likely to become dehydrated.
      Damage
Chemicals in nail polish and nail polish removers can damage nails over time. For example, acetone in nail polish removers can dry out nails, causing peeling, breakage, and brittleness.
People can be very sensitive to the sealant quality of nail polish and acrylics because fingernails have a rich array of sensory receptors, causing tactile perception leading some people especially neurodivergent people with sensory sensitivities to be responsive/reactive/defensive to it. No one actually feels that nails have a respiratory system and are somehow "breathing" or suffocating, but it's the best way to describe the sensation of sealant over a permeable surface and the absorption of chemicals that are not water.
