Do you have any basecoat recommendations for those of us who are prone to staining? I have been using OPI Nail Evy for months with great results of strong and long nails (plus I drink collagen with biotin), but when I started putting colored polishes on top of it, I immediately got yellow nails. Bummer. I got a bit of the staining off with lemon juice and baking soda and tried Orly Bonder on top of OPI Nail Evy, but I am not sure it's helping. Thank you.

I’m a bit confused. Are you talking about the eponychium or the cuticle? In some countries they are referred to as one unit but in others they are separate. I have read several articles on this issue and the consensus seems to be that you CAN remove cuticles, and in fact gel polish will not stay on cuticles, but you should never ever remove the eponychium. So I’m just confused on which info is correct.

I use extra virgin olive oil on my nails and it works a treat. I am on epilepsy tablets which affects biotin levels. I have biotin supplements which have helped my hair as hair issues are a side effect of epilepsy medication, a result of the aforementioned biotin. Those supplements have helped my nails. I try to drink lots of water, it does become a habit. You look fabulous by the way 😊

And btw your cuticle remover is the best.

If the polish is very pigmented and your nails are very porous no base coat will help eliminate staining altogether. But we can all agree on one thing: Never skip a base coat to minimize staining 😊

Okay then please explain why my finger nails feel extremely heavy and suffocated when I put nail polish on. I can put 1 thin coat, be very careful to only put it on the nail itself- not on skin, and make sure there's no clumping. But still, it feels extremely heavy immediately, even with one light stroke. When products say "breathable" I'd imagine their formula is lighter to help people who experience what I do. Just a theory tho.

Love this. Nothing grosses me out more than all the nail technician videos of people cutting cuticles. Can't stand it. I don't like the way it looks, either.

Thanks for this tip. I’ve been watching manicure videos, and seeing people completely cut away cuticles horrifies me. It’s like cutting eyelids off in terms of exposing the body to foreign bodies, but it also looks really ugly when the skin lifts away from the nail.

I do believe I gave myself a fungal infection by pushing the cuticles too far or maybe I was too rough, maybe because I cut the "cuticle " however now I am scared to ever push them back again...well as soon as the last nail heals. I guess my question is .....when I push the "cuticle" back or whatever that next area is ....there will be a lot of "pile up".cuticle skin..hope this makes sense. soooo, I am not supposed to cut it ? If for some reason you would love to see the varied stages of this unpleasant experience I can send them your way. Could be educational .It was never painful, I just love doing and getting my nails done
