You have created two excellent videos for replacing the brake pads and rotors on the Honda CRV. I am so impressed with the step by step details, your clarity of speech and video. Honestly, thank you for sharing your knowledge with those of us who aren’t afraid of working on our own vehicles. I have subscribed.
What a very well done video. One of the best I've seen on brakes, super clear and concise. Thanks man! I have the same piston compression kit and its a lifesaver. For some reason online a bunch of people made it seem like the rear brakes are extremely difficult to do with the electronic e-brake. After watching your video it seems like a fairly standard Honda brake job.
That twist brake compression tool is key (In description). You may have to play around with the pressure you put on the caliper cylinder while rotating. Just be persistent. You got this
I did the front brakes on Honda CRV , I Was not able to take out the screw on the rotor and I striped the Head of the screw . I decided to replace only the brake pads. The rotor looks ok. I used an impact screw driver that was hard to set it up. Is there a way to extract the stripped screw from the rotor when I need to change the rotor and the pads in the future ? I watched your video to replace the rear brake pads. I was not able to unplug the wiring from the motor. I rented the tool you used to push back the piston but after watching your previous video and your warning not to push the piston without retracting the motor I am afraid to do it with the tool. I like all your videos. the explanation and procedures are excellent. Thank you.
@sameshete7936 Just drill the head of the screw completely off using a spiral drill bit. You don't need to use the screw anyway, it is only there to hold the rotor in place during assembly. You can just spin on a lug nut to hold the rotor in place if need be while you are working on it. The impact screwdriver is perfect to take the screws off. Just insure you use the proper bit and the others should come off no problem. The proper bit is a JIS #3. People think it's a phillips, but it's not and that is why so many people strip the screw.
Hi, Do I need to calibrate the brakes twice afterwards? Saw couple of other videos, they mentioned having to calibrate the brake twice afterwards. Or the lights for brakes will come on. Thank you.
Anyone doing this-look up a video of manually retracting your electronic parking brake, very simple but if u skip this I believe it will wreck the caliper/parking brake and/or throw u a brake code. Just like leg day, It's simple but don't skip it 😂
One thing to add is to make sure that you check and loosen the master cylinder cap. If there was no brake fluid added throughout the whole lifespan of the brake pads and rotors; then it's ok. However, when customers take their cars to the shop or dealership, the technicians usually add brake fluid. So when you pump your brake pedal after resetting the caliper piston, it will cause the fluid to go back to the master cylinder. If it's already at max level to begin with, you will have a leak.
I did my rear brake job following this method and everything was working fine. I drove the car around for two days and then got the brake system error message. Hopefully disconnecting the battery for a while will reset it and clear the code.
CRV's are weird with those nonsense codes. A While back, I disconnected the battery in that car to clean the terminals and had some odd code for half a day. If you did everything correctly, drive the care normally. The computer will clear its own codes as long as there is no real issue.
Because you are on the ride hand side of the car you will utilize the RH???? Doesn't that just mean right hand turn so is will also be used on the left side because the piston turns RIGHT to compress.. right?
I thought you needed a computer to disengage the piston for the rear brakes. I tried doing this job myself with brake tool but the piston would only spin and not go down. Was i doing wrong still? My year of car was a 2020
I noticed that you turn a key to start that 2018 Honda CRV, my 2018 CRV has push button start, and I wasn't aware that a key started any of 2018 CRV's to start them up...
JIS #3 is the correct bit for the rotor screws. It's very similar to a phillips, but a lot less chance of stripping when using the correct bit. And the lug nuts should be torqued to 80 ft. lbs. Not 105.
Japanese Industrial Standard. I did not know this ahead of time and used a #3 Phillips and subsequently had to drill out the stripped ALUMINUM screw. Aluminum, really?
@@FuelednFurious You will be able to compress the rear brake piston with the special twist compression tool I have listed in description. Just takes a little patience. This is how 95% of mechanics do this.
@@OldSoulMillennial I actually have that already. Thanks for this. I guess I didn't need to ask this question since I already knew about compressing. Thanks again! 😎
@@FuelednFurious My only tip, you will have to play around with the pressure while compressing. Sometimes, if you compress too hard, you won’t be able to twist the electronic brake back. Generally, light pressure is key.

Was just wondering if you are satisfied with these pads and rotors from Amazon? I need to do this.

Welcome to the liberation!
Just finished the brake job on my wife’s 2019 crv . Followed your video through the whole job. Worked out great 👍👍 Thank you.
So you didn’t need any scan tool as long as you used the correct tool to compress the piston rotating clockwise?

That loosening the nut trick really saved me man. You got a new sub! Cheers

YOU ARE A REAL MASTER!!! YOU EXPLAIN SO WELL. Thank you for your time!
Thanks for the helpful video! I ordered up a tool kit like you have, and the job went perfectly!

Drill it and use an easy out for the size of drill bit you use...

Thanks for the video! I was going crazy trying to get those caliper pistons twisted down.

I read online that the lug nuts should tighten to 80lbs. Is that not right?
That's what I read as well.
Thank you. You made it easy for me.
What is the caliber compression tool used for specifically?
If the parking brake is on and you change the brake pads what is going to happen?
Wondering what the torque specs are on the rear brakes for bracket and piston assembly. Thank you. great video
Bracket is 101 ft lbs and caliper is 37 ft lbs.
@scottstringham2997 that's wrong. It's 80ft.lbs and 17ft.lbs
Great Video Brother! Thank You for sharing it with us! 👍
@15:13 i skipped or i missed this part. i did not hit the electronic emergency brake. is that ok? tyia!🙏

No computer needed. You have to spin and compress the brake caliper. I show this in the video. A special brake compression tool is required
I noticed that you turn a key to start that 2018 Honda CRV, my 2018 CRV has push button start, and I wasn't aware that a key started any of 2018 CRV's to start them up...
Do you have the bleed the brake lines after replacing the pads?
Negative
No. The lines were not opened so no air could've possibly gotten in.
Very nice. So you don't need to touch the electronic parking brake motor if you have the tool you use to spin the piston?
Correct. You may have to play around with the pressure on the tool (Will make sense when you compress the electronic caliper).

I guess that depends on mag or standard rim, ya think?
@@pawpower5210 Honda says 80 ft. Lbs. If you have a problem with it, take it up with them.
Can you add the link for the piston compressor i saw in your video?
I only see the link for the breaks.
Can I buy it on Amazon?
There is a link in the description. Look under caliper compression tool.
I have to do it tomorrow
And some video showing they unscrew electronic brace and screw some piston
I don't know what better
There is a video that shows how to connect 12 volts to the EPB connectors and set the EPB to the proper position as to easily compress the calipers.
I have a 2019 CRV EX. Do you need to unplug or do anything special with the Electronic Parking Brake prior to removing the caliper? Thank you.
Did you watch the video?
@@OldSoulMillennial Yes but, I have seen other videos of people unplugging the connector and using a torx head to unwind, that's why I asked.

No
If you live in the Midwest ditch that screw to keep the rotor in place lol
Excellent!
