When I studied music at Goldenwest College in Huntington Beach, California, I had one of the best jazz teachers ever. In our jazz improvisation class, several techniques were presented for creating an interesting improvised solo. One of the techniques was to play familiar quotes from well-known melodies. In this video, (which is mostly remarkable for the upright bass duel) I noticed that the 'melody' that Brian Setzer actually quotes during his solo is the sound of tuning of the guitar.
Pepe Roberto not surprising since guitar is his forte. I Noticed he played his bass more like a guitar than the other two guys who are percussionist by trade.
Would love to see them live never had the privilege. I love when artist are truly great live and great instrumentalist. I can tell these guys are masters. I remember during the hey day of MTV these guys came out of nowhere and tore the scene up. Right away I wanted to dress like they did. It was all just a clever throwback to the 1950s rockabilly with a modern flare. It was perfect for the times.
I suffered through the 70s Elton John heavy metal and disco, all I wanted to hear was rock and roll, Chuck Berry driving rhythm reverb guitars, then 1980 Brian setzer stray cats, I couldn't believe it ,he brought back rock and roll at its purest sense and made it fashionable,
I saw them during this tour in Edmonton, canada, every guitar players dream, my eyes were glued to his fretboard most of the show. Amazing musicians on that stage
Inspiring for us who are learning how to play Bass. My beloved husband tells me if I can play well on his Maton Bass, made locally in Australia, Bayswater, in the 70's, he shall reward me with a double Bass. I want a classic wooden one.
This is awesome. I just started listening to this type of music when I got into a band called Highway Hi-Fi. My buddy plays the upright bass in that band. Rockabilly is so easy to listen to.
I saw the Cats play Kleinhans Music Hall in Buffalo on Halloween night 1982. They played the Munsters theme song for about 10 minutes. Kleinhans is an old classic hall and I thought the place was going to fall apart from the excitement. It was an unforgettable sight and feeling.
Depuis les années 80 ils ont fais du chemin nos stray cats ils sont devenus les rois du rockabilly et ils assurent aux maximums nos légendes bien vivantes pour nôtre plus grands bonheurs que dieu les protège .
Geez, is this all Brian and the Bass Abusers can do? Couldn't they do back flips_light them on fire_launch them into space and make them blow up or something? Ha, ha, wish I'd been there! Setzer is sensational.
This was at the House Of Blues Chicago. I was in the front row with my band mates not far from this camera, i can hear my voice screaming. Awesome Vid!
As a drummer who's rocked the cowbell I disagree... However, as a musician who wants to learn the upright bass... I fully agree!! Yes there is an internal conflict...
Damn respect the upright bass is hardddd to play! Ok cuz I play it as well you need to put a lot of power in the notes you play or it won’t come out as loud!
The rock around the clock solo will always remain in the annals of rock n' roll. Setzer is simply a legend!
Been a fan since I was 14! Lucky enough to see them quite a few times. They are always amazing!
Now this is what you call Style. Wish more bands could play like these guys. Great video thanks for uploading you got a thumbs up.
Agree ❤
that's not a band tho... it's a competition lol
@@mississippijohnfahey7175 it's okay. I still give it a thumbs up.

Brian's like, "Dudes, come on... You don't abuse your bass... You make love to it..."
Don't. ...he is too sexy already ❤

this video just made my day
Chris D'Rosario is on the bass with the flames, Johnny Hatton on the other one.
I’m not gonna lie about Chris and Johnny, that is a super-awesome brotherhood bonding moment at 4:24. #rockabillyfriendshipgoals
This is so much fun to watch!
Awesome...just wish i could turn down the volume on the crowd to hear the music better!
Obviously not everyone feels this way but I think that the hooting and hollering almost adds to the sound of rockabilly.
What?
Awesome thanks for sharing!
This was at the House Of Blues Chicago. I was in the front row with my band mates not far from this camera, i can hear my voice screaming. Awesome Vid!

At this juncture, Setzer's 'do does kinda resemble a Trumpadour.

I can see the name, but where did they learn to play like this?
Would have been soooooo epic if Lee had shown up.
Just thought of a double bass/pogo stick combo..... better than just standing on the cut-out. Hello.... Is that the Patent office?.......
Bass solo starts at 3:45
I think thats SMUTTY (formally from the Rock Cats) on the green flamed stand up
Ahem… I think that’s Chris D’Rozario on the far left.
Здорово !!! Goo-goo ....
If you've got no rhythm, you have no soul.
Damn respect the upright bass is hardddd to play! Ok cuz I play it as well you need to put a lot of power in the notes you play or it won’t come out as loud!
