In LA, there are hills and mountains where all these homes burnt down. It’s a mix of mountainous tourraine and structures in a lot of places. The neighborhoods were built into the mountainsides and behind the mountain peaks is open space. All the wind pushed the flames over the mountain and the fire spread downhill.
Water use in firefighting must have 2 - 5% aluminum sulfate to improve its fire suppression ability and makes the succeeding suroundings to be fire-proof because alum is use in fire-proofing cloth
Day two in wildland fire training you learn about the Santa Ana foehn winds that blow down hill in LA as an example for the subject because it happens every 4 years. Maybe spend more money on educating your local Structural Firefighters about wildland fire behavior before you make them fight a wildfire.

Not everyone in LA is rich. But that argument, saying rich people’s lives are not valuable is no different from someone saying poor people’s lives are not valuable. And I bet you wouldn’t like it if someone said whatever group you belong to is less valuable, right? All human lives are valuable, man. This is a tragedy no matter how much money they have, who they voted for, what color their skin is. This is a whole entire area bigger than manhattan burnt. Many wont get insurance. No house, no car, no job, nowhere to go. Not everyone is rich. What the hell are you supposed to do if this happens to you?

I would like to add that the reason such astronomical damage occurred this time was not only because strong winds caused embers to spread at high speed, but also because the firefighting response was absolutely weak due to water shortage.
I heard that the current evolution rate is barely exceeding 10%, and I couldn't help but be disappointed to see such an incompetent response from a big city like LA.
