To be fair @rogerwinters9856, the vast majority of her backup singers over 60 years have served her well, with the possible exception of the 61-67 period.
This was during her difficult time. She couldn’t get radio play after/post after Love Hangover. This song wasn’t nearly as original as LH and sounded a bit old fashioned. Then the boss didn’t really get much radio but got huge dance club play. Not until Upside Down did she roar back. Wiz flopped and effectively ended her movie career. But then Upside Down, IComingO, ELove , IMTurn, Why Do Fools, Mirror/ Muscles, Swept Away Missing Y and then All of You, and then Then it went dark up until now with no hits. Tough biz but she toured and survived on an amazing legacy.
Kreatures100 You're mistaken. "Love Hangover" was a massive BB chart hit: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_Hangover#Chart_performance "The Boss" also did well: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Boss_(Diana_Ross_song)#Commercial_performance ruclips.net/video/tx4lCHgKJjE/видео.html When she hosted this episode of "TMS", she'd just had #1 hits with "LH" and "Theme From Mahogany". "The Wiz" actually made money when Motown sold the TV rights to CBS Television for $10Million, and Diana Ross was offered "The Bodyguard" (again) after "TW" was released: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bodyguard_(1992_film)#Background Nearly every album and/or single that Diana Ross has released in the intervening 30+ has gone gold or platinum in some part of the world, including the 2 #1 US Dance chart hits that her Eric Kupper remixes have scored for her within the past 12 months.
What are you talking about lol? This is 1976. Love Hangover was a massive hit that went to number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Mahogany preceded this in 1975 and was a hit in movie sales, especially among black people. It also had another number 1 with Do you know where you going to? After this Midnight special in ‘76 she had her Evening with Diana Ross that was one of the most watched music specials of that time in the neilsen ratings. She was also named Female Entertainer of the Century by Billboard in ‘76. The Boss did not happen until 1978. This was not a difficult time for Ross. Her golden touch on the billboard charts peaked through ‘85. That’s the only thing I can sorta get from what you’re saying. However, she continued to have hits in the states, the UK, and Japan through the 90’s, and charted again in 2006, and recently went to number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 dance charts twice in 2018 with remixes of ANMHE and Upside Down/I’m Coming Out, in addition to the tours and tv specials (which she still does to screaming audiences at 74). Some records charted better than others throughout the 70’s, but she always had hits. The Wiz did not end her movie career. It cost way more than it sold in tickets, so it was not a success. However, it didn’t stop Ross’s movie career. She got a lot of offers after the Wiz, including the Bodyguard (long before Whitney and Kevin Costner), she was notoriously picky with scripts and wouldn’t accept offers. The entertainment business is tough and Ross is an enduring and amazing icon with a great legacy. That I agree with you.
Difficult time? She recorded "Love Hangover" and it was released after another band recorded it and took it to lead on the charts, meanwhile her version literally made it platinum. The song she is singing here was a hit, and her concerts were huge successes. Have several seats please. Diana Ross may be a singles artist, but her singles were massive hits. And in those days she ran other chanteuses off the stage who were supposed to be better singers than her
One of my many favorite Diana Ross performances!!!!! Listen to that voice, look at that commanding stage presence. The one and only!!!!!!!!!!!
LOVE IT...Diana at her prime!
Wow💙 that was a different kind of powerful
I see the Jones Girls backing her up, love it, two greats.
When they showed them I was like, "that's the Jones Girls"

It would be wonderful to see her wear her hair this way again!! Seems like she's worn the same style for almost 40 years!
Right it would be nice
I always wondered who was doing the background calls with her on album, can anyone answer?
