Her best opening ever. Over the top, innovative for its time, beauty icon, fashion icon, feminine yet strong and confident. This is actually Diana’s sweet spot. She is a complete entertainer and the mix of hits with dancers, special effects, lighting and that distinctive voice and presence is a magical alchemy.

The entrance and everything in between and that exit 🙌 she truly showed she was the boss .. now this whole show could be a vehicle for a Broadway show ... 🙌
There is no smile that is as infectious as her smile. There is no voice that reaches into your heart and touches it like her voice. There is no entertainer on the face of the earth that brings such joy, such talent, such glamour and so much of her essence to the stage as Diana Ross does...and she's been doing it for over 50 years! I've been privileged to see her in concert a few times and all I can say is that I am at once uplifted and exhausted each time they ends. She takes you with her on the journey of a lifetime and just when you think it's time for another of "HER" songs, she hits you right between the eyes with another of, what by now are, her standards. I've always been lucky enough to be standing next to her when she comes out into the audience when she does "Reach Out & Touch...." and I can only tell you that she is every bit as gorgeous as she is up on the screen. There is a loveliness that comes from deep within her that is always there...every show...every year...no matter the audience. She leaves it all on the stage when she finally takes her leave of the stage and sings the last notes continue to play you out the door. It's an experience you'll never forget and it's one you'll wish you'll have again! She is a polished, seasoned and amazing performer.
That my friends is how you make an ENTRANCE. I was 4-years-old when I saw this on HBO in 1979. I was mesmerized to say the least and have been a fan ever since. I know everyone considers her Central Park show the most iconic but this is Diana at her best. The slicked back hair, the furs, the out of this world vocals, the dancers and the screen. This show was ahead of its time and so was DIANA!!!! #LOVEIT
I agree with your comment, the Central Park concert was the iconic show, but this is Diana at her best. I saw Diana perform in the Central Park concert as a 9 year old, and fell in love with her that night. I've loved her and her music ever since that night, so long ago now in July 1983. A lot of water under the bridge since then !
I was 14. When the ceasers palace show debuted. 17 at the Central park show to turn 18 2 months later. It was a horror there as we spent the night. Hot as hell. Looting. Horrible rain next day. Better seeing it on TV
She brought this show to Atlanta, and I was there. Miss Ross never disappoints, and I've lost count of how many times I've seen her live. She's really about the last of the old school entertainers left. G!
@Funkdafied 89, true. Dionne's my all time favorite and Mary Wilson's a friend of mine. She called Dionne for me so that I could take a picture with her. Miss 'D' was so nice. Our framed picture hangs in my dressing room at home.
This tour first kicked off in April of 1979 in Providence, Rhode Island. There were 20,000 people in attendance and the excitement was rampant. When Diana burst through the screen after that incredibly beautiful montage, everyone was on his/her feet. The original concert included a sexy rendition of Lovin, Livin, Givin with images of Diana covered in feathers and nothing else being projected onto the giant screen. She also sang each character's songs from The Wiz to promote the album "Diana Ross Sings Songs From The Wiz" which was shelved at that time to be released in the 2000's. She ended the show by floating out from backstage lounging in an enormous shoe and singing You Were The One from Ross 78. For this video from Caesar's Palace the show was revamped to promote her fab Album "The Boss" so other portions of the original show were removed. Too bad because the imagery of Lovin, Livin, Givin was amazing. I saw this version at Caesar's a few times and the audience reaction was the same as in Providence for the original tour. The original tour was called "Tour 79" and there's a great promotional ad for it but I can't find it anywhere on RUclips. I have the promo ad in my collection but it's of poor quality. In this show, her versions of "God Bless the Child" and "My Man" will remain highlights of Ross's career forever. Seeing this concert in person was chilling!!!!
I had the Honor of seeing this Concert personally in Detroit Michigan when I was like 12 I almost had a Heart ♥️ Attack. Literally she is and still is one of the most amazing Entertainers to this Day. Thank You Ms Ross. 🙏🏽👸🏽🎤🎼👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Well, this is why Michael Jackson was totally drop head upside down for this woman , she is a sparkling gem of class and aura ! Such a desirable woman !

I REMEMBER THIS SHOW AS IF IT WAS JUST YESTERDAY, MY WIFE AND I WAS AT THIS SHOW, RIGHT UP IN FRONT TABLE, YES MISS ROSS'S WAS WAY BEFORE HER TIME WITH THE TECHNO AND STAGE ENTRANCE !!! Nobody mentioned that the goat of male black singers, Marvin Gaye, makes an appearance at 37:40. Btw, it wasn't rehearsed and he sounds so flawless, like a diamond b4 the cut.
I was at this concert, it was one of the most exciting evenings of my life. It coincided with the Independence celebrations for Mexico and Central America, as the audience stepped out of Caesar's Palace we were treated to a sky filled with fireworks. As if in celebration of this spectacular concert.
Any Millennials watching this, the production values/technology used in this concert were way ahead of their time! This was cutting edge stuff! The video/big screen- this was mind blowing to audiences- the dancers and costumes? No one else did this at the time! No autotune- ALL live! Exactly 40 years ago, Sept 1979- Aug 2019. "The Boss" was No1 on the Billboard Disco Chart & in the Top 20 of the Hot 100 singles when this was recorded.
There's just something about Diana Ross. Even Michael Jackson was captivated by Diana Ross' special something. I think Diana Ross was able to step out in the "God Idea" of herself and what we got was something beyond what we could imagine.
There is something so beautiful in Diana's soul that goes beyond all the petty human judgments of her mistakes, temperament and limitations. This woman was born to perform and to communicate, which is a loving gift she has given generously for decades now. She has shown by example the virtues of hard work, vital energy, perseverance, setting goals & creating dreams; beautiful values & personal transformation. Let's honor Diana Ross and hold her up to the Light with LOVE ***
After seeing Diana Ross last night live in concert at the age of 78, it is amazing to see this. I wish I could have seen her when she was younger. What a star
Diana is a Goddess. She sings smiling and thats absolutly wonderful. What a Singer, what a Voice! She doesnt just sing, she acts and she talks, all in elegant and classy style.
This was fabulous ❤. I can’t remember what year I saw her at Caesars Palace, but it was the best thing I ever did as a young woman. I also saw Marvin Gaye here in Houston in one of his last concerts. Those were the best days of my life. You didn’t have to worry about getting shot or hurt if you were alone. The world has changed because of the people in it now. How sad.
I was a 14 year old Dutch boy in 1979 and watched this on tv. I had no idea that as from 16, I would become a woman, living like a diva. Still enjoying Midler, Streisand, Minnelli, Bassey, and Ross at 55.
Diana Ross is without a doubt the "Supreme Boss"!!!!!!! Then and now with all this naked booty shaking with these so called lype singing wants beed--- Please---- She gave class and style then and still giving it today!!!!! You go Ms Ross !!!! No one can do it like you!!!!!!!
I watched this on TV some 30 years ago and that entrance was WOW then and still is today ICONIC! This is Miss Ross at her peak onstage! It needs to be remastered for DVD release! #UltimateMissRoss!
Diana's the BOSS 💖 No question! She was the "Beyonce" of that era... Mega Star Quality ✨⭐✨ Saw her live in 1982. An epic live performer- she had the stadium wrapped around her finger
Nobody can give a concert like this one. Still today. Nobody can deliver the love she does. And when she goes in the audience singing the whole place sings with her. Just like Central Park. All those people with the rain she kept all those people calm. People say shit about her because they are jealous. This woman at 78 can still sing. And still packs the concerts
I first saw this concert televised in Australia one Saturday night in 1984 as a "For One Night Only" TV special when I was 10 years old. Who could ever forget that wonderful opening with the screens of Diana and her entrance. Now watching it 35 years later I see a legend performing at her peak. The show is wonderful and her performance is magical. Truly one of the great concerts.
Debra, I agree with you and I am a huge fan of Ross. By far, this is her best performance ever. However, I must say, that Central Park is not that far from her very best. This is by far the best performance by any female entertainer thus far. This probably ranks in the top ten performances of all time and I will include her Central Park concert in that top 10 as well.😂
I was 12 years old when I watched this concert on either “Hollywood Home Theatre “ or “HBO”. I’m 53 years old now and I still love watching it. Diana Ross is still one of my favorite R&B artists.
And this is why they call Miss Ross “the boss!“ She’s at her vocal best, she’s charming and funny and knows how to put on a real show… I’m so glad this popped up into my RUclips feed! What an amazing show!
Diana at her peak, promoting her best studio alum, The Boss. This tour (Tour'79/The Boss) was her only tour not to feature a medley of Supreme's Hits (save for Baby Love), and that was a good thing, let Diana focus on her solo work.
I saw this spectacular on Miss Ross' birthday March 26 1979 in Philadelphia. "The Boss" album hadn't been released yet, so those songs were not performed that night. But everything else is as you see here. A spectacular 50 piece orchestra, full choir and her dancers featuring one of her younger brothers. The concert was mind-blowing! I shall never forget it. Forever......The Greatest🌌
One of the most talented people who ever lived... She is always portrayed as a catty diva, but in every interview--every time she is given a chance to speak about other people--she is sweet and kind. Maybe it's just an act, but man, that smile just makes you melt.
This was my first time seeing Diana Ross live and I was hooked. I started looking for all of her older music.I didn't even know she was a Supreme. I have bought all of her music since then, and even got to actually see her live and she was still awesome. Ms. Ross is the BOSS...ain't no doubt about it! Thanks to Nandy Ross for posting this whole concert. Just wish i could have it personally in my collection like the Central Park concert.
I saw her a year later at Ocean State Theater, One of My Favorite Life Memories and a year later at Boston Gardens SHE'S THE BEST, LADY BOSS INFINITY...
Diana Ross has never changed how she conducts he's self towards her fans and and you could watch her time and time again thank you Diana. One thing me and my mate John who sadly passed her away were fans of her from the 60s and on wards and thank for the memories.
Omg the entrance lol and the exit classic and ahead of its own time!!! Lady Diana knew what she was doing she was leaving her blue print on the industry! 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿💯💯💯💯
Haaa well that would be amazing since her younger fans like myself never had the chance to see anything like this. I imagine it would be too much for her energy-wise though and we don't want to burn her out :)
There is something so uniquely fascinating about her as a performer. She is not the greatest singer or dancer of all time, not even the greatest songwriter. But her stage presence and sheer star power SOAR above anyone else maybe ever in history. It’s like she doesn’t even have to try. She is magic.
It's ridiculous you want people to pay attention to the back up singers. There is nothing impressive about them. They sound like any black church in the country
I got to dance with Diana on the stage with 10 other people who were plucked from the audience of the Oakdale Theater in Wallingford, Connecticut, circa 1980. I think it was when she sang “Upside Down”. Afterward, we all lined up to kiss her cheek before going back to our seats. I could tell that she really didn’t want to be touched and was gritting her teeth, but she never once stopped smiling. What a show she put on. Diana was the consummate performer.
I saw this concert at about age 10 and fell in love...my mother probably thought about having me committed...that was 38 years ago...I'm still intrigued by this woman❤
Was fortunate enough to see the Diva in action @ Cobo Hall in Detroit in February '79, where she used the same opening. Heavy on returning to Detroit, she covered everything in her career and gave credit to everyone involved. Aretha Franklin was in town for her father, so, of course, she shared the mic during "Reach Out and Touch." Memorable to say the least. Thanks for a lovely memory jog!
Who’s still watching her in 2020? I love me some Diana Ross! Such a classy lady! She showed us her talent and she did it with grace and integrity! She didn’t dress like a slut and still sole millions of albums! The music industry needs to go back to the basic
This lady has what is called a truly amazing voice gifted from God. No other can perform like her and we still have her performing today 2024. I call her blessed. 🙏🏾❤️
This is magical! The first black megastar. And to think we are still blessed to have her here with us.

"We don't have to explain to hate, let them stay outside the GATE"...
Yes indeed.
I was there! She held my hand!
Fan or not, in her heyday, she could definitely put on a show.
SHE STILL CAN
And she still does today.
Doing it now.
I saw this show..it was very good.
Do I like Diane? No! Big Ego...
@@michaelmcgarry7701 why you watch?
I was also 4-years old when I saw this concert at my grandma's house. And your comments hit the nail right on the head.
Makes anyone with a Soul Feel Good!!!
@Funkdafied 89 Miss Ross in a different class to whom you've mentioned - sorry, but true - !
Thank you for the description
❤️💖❤️
I had the Honor of seeing this Concert personally in Detroit Michigan when I was like 12 I almost had a Heart ♥️ Attack. Literally she is and still is one of the most amazing Entertainers to this Day. Thank You Ms Ross. 🙏🏽👸🏽🎤🎼👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
If you have seen Diana Ross, you have seen The Very BEST!!!!
if you've seen whitney you'd seen the best!!!...diana is superb as well...
Well, this is why Michael Jackson was totally drop head upside down for this woman , she is a sparkling gem of class and aura ! Such a desirable woman !
Sarah&Faith F K EXACTLY
This is why so many other performers were busy being haters of Diana Ross, maybe if they put their all into their professing, they wouldn't have the time to be so jealous of my singer,Miss Diana Ross,I will always love her no matter how others feel about her, because she is a true go getter❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ her😍
I'VE BEEN A SUPREMES FAN SINCE 1963...... AND STILL CRAZY ABOUT THIS SUPER STAR IN 2023.........SIXTY YEARS OF PURE HAPPINESS
"What ever happened to that hometown girl"? Living her dreams. Quite motivational.
The most Beautiful Concert i have ever seen
I saw this show in Detroit and Aretha Franklin was in the audience on reach out and touch and OMG And Aretha killed it
I REMEMBER THIS SHOW AS IF IT WAS JUST YESTERDAY, MY WIFE AND I WAS AT THIS SHOW, RIGHT UP IN FRONT TABLE, YES MISS ROSS'S WAS WAY BEFORE HER TIME WITH THE TECHNO AND STAGE ENTRANCE !!! THE NIGHT THE LEGEND MARVIN GAYE WAS AT THE SHOW, ALONG WITH MISS ROSS'S MUM AND THREE DAUGHTERS !!! 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Gotta be honest. Haven’t seen this concert in 30 years and the entrance still gets me! ❤️❤️❤️
Me too!
Nobody mentioned that the goat of male black singers, Marvin Gaye, makes an appearance at 37:40. Btw, it wasn't rehearsed and he sounds so flawless, like a diamond b4 the cut.
keith glenn I know man!!! How did people miss that!
... The "Goat"?
@@mimosa27 greatest of all time "GOAT"
She is ... everything. Today’s pop stars goodbye .., I’m going back to Diana !
I was at this concert, it was one of the most exciting evenings of my life. It coincided with the Independence celebrations for Mexico and Central America, as the audience stepped out of Caesar's Palace we were treated to a sky filled with fireworks. As if in celebration of this spectacular concert.
Good memory. The date of this concert must have been 16 September 1979 then.
@@gilbydog7350 WOW that's my late Mom's Earthday ❤
One of the best concerts I've ever seen.
Diana is a class act! A consummate entertainer; second to none! 🌠
Fabian Stephen Michael was desperately in love with her
Truly an AMAZING concert-- she is at peak performance at this concert-- defines what a "STAR" really is.
Your So Right, Much Love to U
...
❤
As a Gen Z, I always admired Ms. Ross' stage presence and voice. Truly, there will never be another Diana Ross.
Diana is The Catalyst...This Should Have A Billion to A Trillion Views...
The Lady...The Legend...The Legacy...Dame Diana..Forever Love!
At the height of her vocal power and prowess - my gosh Ms Ross was on full throttle here 😍😍
I watched this on TV some 30 years ago and that entrance was WOW then and still is today ICONIC! This is Miss Ross at her peak onstage! It needs to be remastered for DVD release! #UltimateMissRoss!
@Stevie Mack MEGA #FACTS
That was state of art technology the screen intro very advanced for the year I bet the casino paid a lot of money for this show
Diana's the BOSS 💖 No question!
100% agree!!!
I am going to see her at Hard Rock Live Northern Indiana May 5, in Michael Jacksons hometown, and Janets and the rest :)
My fiirst time was 1989 or 1990 in the late Soviet Union. Fell in love with Diana Ross at once.
This was in February 1979 its February 2021 shes still performing 🙌🏾 50+ years wow
I truly believe, That this is her best concert and vocals also adding central park! THE BOSS!
Debra, I agree with you and I am a huge fan of Ross. By far, this is her best performance ever. However, I must say, that Central Park is not that far from her very best. This is by far the best performance by any female entertainer thus far. This probably ranks in the top ten performances of all time and I will include her Central Park concert in that top 10 as well.😂
gmoneyhollywood
Her 1981 TV special is imho better than the Caesar palace one, though both always succeed to blow me away!
THE QUEEN. THE BEST PERFOMANCE SHE EVER DID. I CAN WATCH THIS OVER AND OVER. LOVE DIANA ROSS.
"OCEAN STATE SHOW, 'diana' album was released Is BOSS, YOU HAD TO BE THERE"...
I was 12 years old when I watched this concert on either “Hollywood Home Theatre “ or “HBO”. I’m 53 years old now and I still love watching it. Diana Ross is still one of my favorite R&B artists.
This is better than today's concerts
ABSOOOOlutely! ALL class. ALL talent. And let us not forget; ALL heart and ALL soul.
And this is why they call Miss Ross “the boss!“ She’s at her vocal best, she’s charming and funny and knows how to put on a real show… I’m so glad this popped up into my RUclips feed! What an amazing show!
This woman is legendary
Diana at her peak, promoting her best studio alum, The Boss. This tour (Tour'79/The Boss) was her only tour not to feature a medley of Supreme's Hits (save for Baby Love), and that was a good thing, let Diana focus on her solo work.
"SHE NEVER NEEDED THEM, THEY NEEDED HER"...
Truly she's been an underrated artist, but clearly has proven herself as a talented singer and actress.
She's Flawless
I saw this spectacular on Miss Ross' birthday March 26 1979 in Philadelphia. "The Boss" album hadn't been released yet, so those songs were not performed that night. But everything else is as you see here. A spectacular 50 piece orchestra, full choir and her dancers featuring one of her younger brothers. The concert was mind-blowing! I shall never forget it. Forever......The Greatest🌌
ELECTRIC
Wow! Makes you wonder why didn't they have video phones THEN?!!:)
Wow someone else said it was in September.
EPIC !!! Vocal Perfection ... Beautiful Lady & Extraordinary Entertainer !! One of the Greatest Performers of EVVVAAHHH !!!
One of the most talented people who ever lived... She is always portrayed as a catty diva, but in every interview--every time she is given a chance to speak about other people--she is sweet and kind. Maybe it's just an act, but man, that smile just makes you melt.
That opener was bomb!!!! Love her!
You Didn't know she was a Supreme. Seriously? She was the only reason most people listened to or watched The Supremes
U can get this on dvd
mine too......I asked who were the Supremes in 1980......then I found out!! Hooked forever!!!
Reach and and touch is amazing, I just wished we could learn from it. She is AMAZING.
Can’t believe I’m saying this in 2020. She need to bring back this act for her concerts.
How can't you love this wonderful woman.
A great performance. A lesson in history. 20years of being on stage. 60 years as of today. A lifetime.
She wasn't the best singer of her generation, but she is a GREAT entertainer. Watching her live was always the best time.
The best singers are the distinctive ones with some ethereal quality that sets them apart. She’s got it!
I'm sorry. She was THE BEST of her time.. Same as Whitney
Please let's not forget the backing singers.....totally on point ❤
It's ridiculous you want people to pay attention to the back up singers. There is nothing impressive about them. They sound like any black church in the country
Absolutely. They are never given the credit they deserve. Always 20,000 feet from stardom!
Eddie Kendrick singers .....❤
❤
Hell yeah...THE TURNT IT OUT!!!!! That top note in the background vocals on "No One Gets The Prize" is a Monster!!!! OMG!!!!!
This is what started my crazy obsession with this lady folks. Still crazy today. Just love some Ms Ross.🇯🇲
I saw this concert at about age 10 and fell in love...my mother probably thought about having me committed...that was 38 years ago...I'm still intrigued by this woman❤
Was fortunate enough to see the Diva in action @ Cobo Hall
in Detroit in February '79, where she used the same opening. Heavy on returning to Detroit, she covered everything in her career and gave credit to everyone involved. Aretha Franklin was in town for her father, so, of course, she shared the mic during "Reach Out and Touch." Memorable to say the least. Thanks for a lovely memory jog!
This is my favorite concert ever. Phenomenal!!!!
Best concert ever🥰
My Favorite, In my opinion this is the best concert Diana Ross ever did!!!
👍! Yes,.The best!
Best show ever ever ever love from Norway since then.1979 Love Love Love
Who’s still watching her in 2020? I love me some Diana Ross! Such a classy lady! She showed us her talent and she did it with grace and integrity! She didn’t dress like a slut and still sole millions of albums! The music industry needs to go back to the basic
More than 15 year old veteran at this point and who knew she had more than 40 year career ahead of her wow
I love this woman for life! She is my entertainment guru. My sweet inspiration when I entertain.
2020 relevant!
This lady has what is called a truly amazing voice gifted from God. No other can perform like her and we still have her performing today 2024. I call her blessed. 🙏🏾❤️
One of the great live performances. This show illustrates the allure and magic of DIANA....#theboss
one of her best concerts, live with full orchestra and back up dancers...amazing figure too after 3 kids, Diana more power to you !!!
Live musicians, live voices. Miss Diana Ross for 75 minutes. This is why she is a LEGEND. Thank you for sharing.
