It’s so funny how split people are on this SUV. You have the people (like myself) that love the simplicity, reliability, and that NA V8. Then you have the people complaining about how dated it is. How many other SUVs in this class can you guarantee will be solid for 10-15 years at least? Great video!!

When I moved to my 2016 GX from an RX I was surprised at just how car-like the handling was and how comfortable it was. Can take this on forest roads, fancy restaurants, can sleep in it, move a chest of drawers, and can move around a bunch of kids. Love the “old school” feel of that v8. Modern cars just put me to sleep, but this still makes you feel like you’re part of the world around you. Love this car!

I love my GX. It’s a 2017. Bought it used. It was a lease return. 35k with 30k miles on the odo a couple years ago. That is the sweet spot. I intent to keep mine for a long time. Mines got Dobinsons 2.5” lift, 17” on 33” tires. Retrofitted crawl control and MTS. Prinsu rack and a GOBI ladder. And the Magnaflow exhaust really lets you hear that nice V8 rumble. Things a beast offroad. Maybe when it’s no longer my daily, I’ll go full tilt with bumpers and long travel. Dream on.

The fancier Prado and 4Runner. I’d buy this in a heartbeat. Sure it might be dated, but a lot of off-road capable SUV’s are actually intended to be that way if you think about it. It’s their years of ruggedness and durability that stands the test of time, so that’s why they’re timeless.

The only bad thing is the horrible gas milage but I knew that going in plus all the vehicles I owned before were gas hogs so I’m used to bending over I guess :-). I like how fair Topher is. Most reviews criticize the handling as it doesn’t respond well to sudden directional changes. But for most commuter and 95% of the buyers, it’s plenty good enough. In the real world I feel like most cars can be pushed if you understand how to be a good driver and slowly build up grip around corners and being predictive. Still a solid choice.

    • @s3er0i9ng
      @s3er0i9ng 2 года назад +1

Yah I completely agree. Most of the grip just depends on the type of tire and the road conditions. This car seems to have plenty especially for commuting and driving through daily traffic. A lot of the reviewers want a super sporty SUV, but I don't get it an SUV is never going to be as sporty as a proper sports car and it just ruins the comfort along with the off-road capability. The entire point of the SUVs used to be that they were great off-roaders, now they became raised less comfortable minivans.
Might pick one up once used car prices are sane again. Either this or the upcoming type R lol. Really torn on weather I want another sports car to daily or something more comfortable.

The GX is an excellent vehicle. I often find that its priced at the same price range as a 4runner, Highlander, Tacoma slightly used. Its rediculous bc this is a Lexus and you have the refinement, features, and looks a lot better than the Toyotas. The 4Runners styling is more appealing to some in that it's more subtle, but the 2010-2013 GXs are very Prado-esque and will become collectors items due to their subtle looks and rarity relative to the 2014+ models.

Wish you'd mention if the infotainment also worked with Android Auto. I had to wait until the end to know you said AA. 😉Not an Apple person at all, but I do know many vehicles have worked with Apple CarPlay for a while now, but not as many Android Auto. Always hope for more with it. This or a 4Runner have been my choice ones. Also wireless is overrated. And charging pads will never be as good as straight plug-in USB.
The only cons outside of price are the way the rear doors opens to me. I appreciate the 4Runner's hatch. This is the luxury step-up with a V8 imo. And you hit the nail on the head. That GX is reliable and durable. With proper maintenance I'd think 300,000-400,000 miles easy. And for some that just drive around town it'll last 15+ years no problem. Range Rovers won't do that.
And if you're bringing up gas why are you looking into a luxury SUV with a V8? And until chip production and vehicle manufacturing returns to pre-pandemic levels I think $70k is going to be more the average for a luxury SUV.

Which means it's in the most "busy and stiff" setting lol. You can feel these modes too. I'll throw the GX in sport to run some errands, then my gf will get in with me the next day and she'll ask in under 60 seconds of driving "is this in sport mode? It feels too bouncy". Sport for summer pavement driving, Normal for everyday, Comfort for... I dunno what comfort is for but it's too soft and boaty. I'm in normal mode 95% of the time. Also 10:03 ... chef's kiss. This car is perfect. After your Golf R video with permanent drone sound and loud tire bumps, this GX is very peaceful and quiet and tire noise is somewhere underneath not bothering much.
Instead of moving to service station like with other cars and charging -5000$ for repairs, this GX saves money to install some performance red brakes for better safety on highway and in a city.
No need a borla, magnaflow constant drone annoying exhaust here. 😆The Engine bay is even barricaded by plastic covers, it means you don't need to climb there deeply.🤣
I really would buy that GX 2022 for 50K only, instead of Golf R, omg...and, scary to say, Tesla model 3. 😵‍💫
We'll see what next gen GX will be... 3.5L V6 turbo with 10-speed probably, and modern interior..

I disagree, 2023 fixed solid red tail light which looked old with clear with dark inserts with color highlights. So I think my 2023 is best lux model.

What color is the interior seats. Is it similar to GX 2019 color called Ecru it’s more like cream, light tan color. It looks elegant, nice when new and clean but I think for the off road truck like GX this color shows out when dirty! What do you think? Thanks

Get rid of the touchpad and get better taillights. It would make it more desirable.

I noticed the GX has the least amount of Lexus' Safety tech. Sometime for potential buyers to keep in mind - if they really need that stuff.

GX had pretty much everything outside of self driving. I would never let the car drive itself. Precollision, parking assist, rear cross traffic alert, radar cruise. No pedestrian alert though I think. It had a ton of airbags and that body on frame will keep your family safe vs unibody

I thought the GX platform was based on the Landcuiser Prado which is off-road based SUV?

I love this car except in 2022, after $70k, you don't get the stop and go traffic assist like the other Lexus models. Wish they can add that in 2023 before I can jump on one.

The Japanese, naturally aspirated V8 era is sadly at its end. With Toyota phasing them out, all that really remains is Nissan and cars like the Armada and Titan. Who knows how long those will last. Haters don't understand that you're not buying this to impress your neighbors, but to drive something comfortable that will last forever with its bulletproof, organic, buttery smooth engine.
If I had the money and couldn't find a last gen Land Cruiser, I'd easily get this. End of an era.

I have strange issues in my brand new 2022 gx
1st: hand brake is too loose to level that not enough to hold the car in moderate slopes.
2nd: whenstop in uphill and put it in D to go forword, it produces very strong grinding-like sound below driver feet with some orange lights up (may be traction icon)... It happen if the hill is enough to draw gx backword when on D without gas.... So when you press gas to level not enough to push it, this sound came out.. If you press gas harder it go forword... But that sound and grinding I think shouldn't happen... I have dealership appointment and I will explain these issues and see.
3rd thing is that, I feel my gx is too high in rear wheels!!!! I hope it is not

I've had my 2022 GX for about 6 months now. The pros are: the ride, reliability, quietness, handling, overall looks. The cons: the "high-end" sound system is no better than what you'd get in a Hyundai Santa Fe (as example), the gas mileage, no automatic tailgate (for obvious reasons), the heated steering wheel is only on the leather-covered area (where I hardly put my hands), the entertainment/infotainment UI is the worst I've seen out there. Wired iPhone/Android is horrendous and often disconnects. Would I buy it again? Meh. I think I'd just opt for the Topher.
