That sounds interesting. Growing up I just knew the people making these movies didn't play the game at all. It's like they read the comments on the back of the box and just went with it. They often focus on small parts of the actual game and need to focus more on the mechanics that made the game good enough to have a movie made about it. I mean. I would get Mario Bros. The movie now. When I was 11? No...

You know they could have probably cast Jimmy Bennet in this movie and actually improved the fight scenes, or at least replace some of the trampoline jumps for multiple takes of the same kick.

I was so happy to see Motaro and Sheeva on the big screen. Hated how Sheeva was such a jobber.
I know this is a wrestling content channel but I looooooove the wrestling references in non wrestling related stuff.

I remember absolutely loving this movie as a kid, and part of me still loves it as an adult. It easily reaches "so bad it's good" territory. I love how every character gets a cameo, and if you're gonna have a shit film, might as well appeal to the marks.

The Elder Gods attitude about intervention felt like the cops in a lifetime movie; "We're not going to stop the evil emperor Shao Kahn from violating our own policies and invading Earth but we are going to actively prevent you from using your godly powers to help the humans."😂
This does put them on par with the Elder Gods in the games, at least.

This and Batman & Robin were quite the 1-2 punch of suckitude in 97. Was a massive mark for MK1 and Batman Forever.
Even as a kid those two turkeys let me down massively.
I marked out when Matthew pointed out that Shao Khan actor was the alien bounty hunter from x files. I pop for any x files reference😂
He was also the serial killer trying to kill Bridgette Nielsen in Cobra.
Have to say, I absolutely loved this movie as a kid. Terrible effects didn't look as bad on terrible TV, I thought music was the coolest and I think just sheer power of my imagination made fights much better than they were. What Maffew said about Cyrax jumping resonates with me, holy shit did you see how cool that flip to the beat drop was???
It would have been more accurate if the actors playing Kitana and Jade switched roles, because they look far more like each other's current video game counterparts.
I'm not even exaggerating when I say I've seen this movie like 50 times AT LEAST. Had it on VHS as a kid, watched it over and over and over because it was flashy and had ninjas and stupid flips. This and The Phantom Menace (same reason, had it on VHS as a kid) are the two movies I've watched the most throughout my life. I made some poor life choices even as a child.
Don't feel bad, I've watched Phantom Menace more than any other star wars film! I think it's because I kept feeling that it couldn't be horrible, I just didn't get it

The actor who played Sheeva was (obviously) quite unhappy that they ended up not doing a fight scene with her.
to be fair I think Musetta Vander (Sindel) is a so-bad-they're-good actress, she's always entertaining to watch hamming it up to the max. Doing a similar job as the leather-clad whip-toting, Lash in Oblivion 1 & 2.
That 360 turn she did was the best thing in the movie, she’s a delight to watch

Just wanted to tip my hat to the sheer level of detail you guys put into the editing. Using music from Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins and the first movie's Original Score soundtrack during the Aftermath...utter perfection!
PS - as someone mentioned earlier, the one sole, solitary shining light from MK:Annihilation is absolutely the soundtrack!
I was so excited for this when it came out. I was born in '83 and most of the sequels that had come out in my childhood were decent or I was too dumb to know different. I was too young to know about studio politics so I was pumped for this to be even better. It also happens to be the first movie that remember recognizing as bad while sitting in the theater.

Its kind of great that in you guys we have someone that can inform us Yanks about the Euro EDM music groups whose songs are used.
There's no way all of that 30 million dollar budget went into this movie.

I watched this opening week in 97 with my best friend and it was the second time we nearly walked out of a movie at 12 years old. The first being The Avengers with Uma Thurman and Sean Connery

Shao Khan's actor was also the main villain in Cobra.
That's where I most remember him from besides Fright Night 2. He was really good in Cobra, but Stallone apparently held him back alot
Also, if you look at the shot of Barrakka/ Rain going into the fire, you can see a hand reach up to catch the falling body just before the flames rise. lol

Went to see this one in cinema while I was underage... Yeahhh, kinda wish I'd done that for the first movie instead..thought it was alright at the time. 😂😭
Her acting was bad but I fancied the pants off Sindel's actress. 😂
These days..the best part about this is the bassier version of the main theme. 😬
I have a screener copy of this, makes the movie better with a constant reminder of "don't copy or lend this or go to jail".

I always thought this movie was a "direct to video" sequel with no budget. My 12 year old self was so wrong.
Even at 12 I knew this thing was bad, but seeing it as an adult....holy crap.

My favorite part of this movie is the phrase on the poster: "Nothing can prepare you!"
And they were right, nothing could have prepared me at 13 to experience this movie. It was bad then, and I've found it worse and worse as I get older. However, despite being a massive MK mark, I always have a laugh watching this every few years...and making it a drinking game, of course.
