    Thomas, you can use a simple plastic bin with lid as an automatic washing machine. Install it at your car and it will wash your clothes during your offroad trip. Malcolm Douglas used one in the Outback.

      Yes, but a bin takes up more space than a bag.

    • @johnsmith1474
      @johnsmith1474 10 месяцев назад +5

      It's too bulky, in comparison to a bag. And there is no need for automation when you can squash a bag for 2 minutes and be done.

    Love your idea of the journal. I actually do that too! I also have a little 2X3 photo printer so I can include one picture from the days travels along with notes about how far we travelled and details about the day. It’s fun to look back on and brings back memories of a particular day I may have forgotten about. Great video Thomas!

    I adore my fjallraven Vidda's & Keb trousers. I bought a set of knee pads that go in the little slots for them. Makes getting low much more comfortable. I just found them useful crawling around on the top of my van to bolt my loose solar panel down.

    Love my Fjallravens. Use them for all sorts not just for the great outdoors. I wax them regularly when its going to be wet and have no issues and the wax washes out no problem.

    Got to agree that the insta360 is more faff than it's worth. Some people seem to have it figured out and love it but for most of us, I think it's just not worth it. I just sold mine and went back to a GoPro and don't regret it at all.

    Watched the series. It started just after my wife and i got back from a van tour of Iceland and plan to return
    As gor the insta 360, got one with the same plans you did. Shoot now and frame later. Did that for 1 video. Never finished that video because of how hard it is to edit later. And my puter kept crashing.
    However, just using it as a wide-angle high-resolution shake free action camera has made it worth it

    I have a pair of Vidda Pro trousers, plus three of Fjallraven's Helag cap which can also be waxed to make them more waterproof. Having waxed one hat for rainy days, the breathability does decline but it's still really comfortable.
    Nothing quite like writing your ideas with pen and paper. I use a Wanderings refillable travel 'journal', which takes 3x 32 page notebook insets. It's really good and with 3 inserts means there's a bit more leeway for organising my thoughts, i.e. putting certain things in one insert like location information. Helps keep me organised.

    Always liked the look of the pants and I try to get a pair of two if they have it in my size. Scrubba Bag will also be a go when I travel more. I also got a hard case for the laptop for additional protection when in the sleeve. I also have a USB LCD display to connect to the laptop so I’ll have two displays while traveling.

    Great advices! I started to use Fjallraven trousers this year as well - though the Barents Pro, but it is very similar to the Vidda Pro. I used greenlandic vax on it on both trips to Lofoten (in March with loads of snow and last couple of weeks with constant rain), and I can assure you that there is no breathability issue. I can highly recommend the vax.

    I went to the far northeast with my UK car, v remote and hardly a soul. I kept my tank over half full, refuelled whenever I could. I was most concerned about punctures and flat battery, but had no issues luckily despite lots of rough gravel. I did consider exhaust inflatable jack bags and a repair kit. I settled for 2 cans of foam 😂 I also took a jump starter and inverter, which powered my dvd player etc. I had basic tool kit and materials like strong tape for running repairs. I carried water for me and enough to refill the car. I travelled alone, kept a journal, and took LOTS of photos for posterity.

    With you on the faffery of editing Insta360 video, Tom. My PCs grind to a halt with the Gopro reframe plug-in too which means I have to edit using the awful 360 Studio app and export the reframed video and embed that into Premiere. I don't know what's worse: filming more and more angles or editing these clips. At least with the 360, i don't forget to film as many bits of B roll.....
