Obviously this would be more epic if you went full TopGear and converted the Delica to an amphibious vehicle and sailed all of the way to the UK! I mean... how hard can it be?!
Great video, what an epic trip with your own faithful van!! Also respectful greetings to your lady for letting you go on such adventures! The photography community appreciates that!
Hey Tom! I've thoroughly enjoyed following you on your trip and fully appreciate the work that goes into these videos. Apart from the wonderful photos I have been most struck by your easy-going reaction to the many set-backs that inevitably arise on a trip of this size. I would be a total stress-head! So there's a lesson in there for me. Many thanks and congrats!
I am not overly interested in landscape photography but these videos remain interesting, inspiring and highly enjoyable. Your personality, humour and outlook are pure entertainment (boil in the bag food I could do without!).
Your exhaust issue reminds me why I always have a Holts exhaust bandage, some exhaust paste and some spare exhaust clamps in my spares kit. Obviously having packed it in every car since 1984 I have only had to use it once! But that one time it really saved the day. Long trips, older vehicle and no spares equals potential for a less than fun time.
Are you kidding me Thomas, not even one shot of our beautiful country, the Netherlands. We enjoyed you fantastic trip and photos. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Thomas, I've really enjoyed the story of your trip. I'm envious of the big road trip as I’ve only ever done rental car trips. I just need a camper van! And I love a ferry ride. I love the moody images you tend to seek out. They are right up my street. For me they encapsulate that beautiful ugly mad island. Even on the crappiest days, there’s always something. I once drove from Hofn to Seydisfjordur and back in the pouring rain as I had nothing better to do. I was rewarded with an incredible late afternoon conditions at Stokksnes as I made my way back to the hotel. You just never know what’s going to happen! The image you took on Vik beach reminds me of one I took a few years back whilst I happened to be talking to Peter Snow off the TV, who happened along.
Brilliant series of videos, awesome photography, wonderfully entertaining. Hope that the Delica is fixed and ready for its next adventure and that repairs didn’t drain the wallet too much. Thanks for taking us with you on your adventures, looking forward to the next one.
Love that road from Seydisfjordor. I was there in June. I'm still missing Iceland. I intend on going back in the summer of 2024. Your photographs are amazing. Thanks for the amazing video
Ahh, HOME AGAIN! Relax a bit, have a good meal with some local brew. Give the wife her present and show her how much you missed her. Tomorrow take the Delica in to have the exhaust reattached. Relatively minor fix, and then enjoy driving back home in the quiet comfort of your van. It has been a great trip. All the other little fixes you can attend to yourself when you are ready. Not using any oil so you should be able to get another 100K miles out of it. Beats the heck out of a monthly car payment. Thanks for having us along on your adventure, Thomas. I'm looking forward to some images of Yorkshire now.
Just returned back from Altay, Russia. 2000 km to get there and around 1200 km in the region. Mountains, waterfalls, canyons, mountain rivers and lakes. Best ever trip in my life! And this is you who inspired me to go to somewhere by car for a photo-journey. Thank you, Thomas! Have a smooth ride!
@@ThomasHeatonPhoto Yes, three days of driving to get there but it worth the afford. Mother nature gifted me two magnificent moments I didn't expect - first snow on autumn trees and rising moon above mountain covered with snow and painted pink by sunset. wow! I will probably repeat such trip again. If you ever decide to go to Russia for photography Altay in late September should definitely be on the list. Sorry for mistyping your name by the way. I noticed my mistake only now.
Thomas, I hope you read this because I want you to know that you are such an inspiration to me not only for your artistic abilities but because of your positivity. Thank you so much for sharing your passion and your work.
The east is insanely colourful end of sept, just returning back from a 3 weeks trip too. I was stopping to photograph all the roads, i think i even made a hike on that gray hills where you first stopped.
This has been an epic series Thomas, really enjoyed it. I hope Iceland has left you with some amazing memories as it did with me. I’m looking forward to your next adventure.
Great images Mr Heaton. Keep up the great work. Always inspiring and as others have said even your bad images put my good ones to shame. Have happy and productive 2024
Oh At my second trip to Iceland sailing on the Ferry Norröna we had beautiful late afternoon light. The ferry detoured to get us close to Risin og Kellingin, some rock pillars in the ocean off the Faroe North coast. What a view! What a trip! What a captain! This ferry link is worth every minute.
Tom, it seems like one item you might want to obtain and have in your off-road-capable van is a 12 volt powered air compressor, or at least a manual bicycle tire pump. This way you don't have to find a petrol station in order to air up your tires after going off-road with them at lower pressure.
The sound of the 6G72 engine is great, even with a damaged exhaust. I had to fix the exhaust on my Delica a year ago. It might be a common weakness. Thanks for the great images from Island.
Of course the car will make it, certainly no sports exhaust needed, the sound is already there. 4.25m haha great, safe ride back and see you soon, greetings Martin
Cracking series. Came across this series as I’ve been watching Iceland videos after a two week ring road trip in 2022. Loved all of it - and your photos are fantastic! Thanks Thomas.
An excellent adventure, Thomas. Tip for next time, take 2 jubliee clips big enough to go over you exhasut pipe, a screw driver, a pair of tin snips and a tin of all day breakfast.
FYI, you must have beegn blitzed out from all that driving, because that was not Seyðisfjörður, where you stopped for fuel, with the Lindex shop in the background. It was the much larger town of Egilsstaðir. The difference being Egilsstaðir's inland and hence has no ferry. Seyðisfjörður's a half hour away, with a rather zig-zag road to and from it, with a pretty waterfall, but few places to pull out and shoot it. It showed great faith in your van to drive off to that thermal area on your last day before the ferry left Iceland.
Truly epic trip Thomas, apart from the great photos which of course we have come to expect its film making of the highest quality, congratulations and thanks for the gasps and the laughs.
I wondered if you were going to do a video for the return journey. You'll be glad to be home. I did enjoy those geo thermal images. Were the bubbles reflecting you. So cool if they were.
Thanks for the video, I especially like the images in the geothermal area. One word of caution: If you walk through this areas, be very carefull not to get too close to active outlets (yes I know, this is hard from a photographic standpoint) and test the ground thoroughly to make sure it is stable. It can happen that steam hollows out the ground from below leaving only a thin layer of earth on the top and the very last thing you want to experience is to stand ankle or knee deep literally in boiling mud. Areas with green grass are usually safe, as this gets brown when it is boiled from below. BTW: The legal border for driving with alcohol in Germany in 0.5 promille.
Great series of vlogs Thomas, was in Iceland around the same time as yourself and clocked up 1,900 miles of driving in 6 days, so glad I didn’t have to drive there and back from the UK though but no doubt it added to the adventure. Brought back some great memories of our trip to the same locations. I will never tire of watching vlogs from Iceland, it is one incredible country. Loved your images and strangely the one of the metallic looking bubbles with your reflection kneeling down in each was brilliant 👌 ❤️🇮🇸
The sound of the video is consistent, awesome! Most teenagers will apreciate the sound of your exaust btw :) Its a 5 min fix most likely. But it drains all your will power driving long distances with this sound.
Lol, you're good Tom. We are all tourists at some point in our lives. U-turns is strange places are commonplace, lol. Got my calendar last week. This thing is beautiful. And, the signature is a nice touch. Thank you sir!
You should go to Orkney sometime. I went one midwinter and coming into Scapa Flow in the predawn was magical. The snow on the land contrasted unbelievably with the dark, calm sea. Unforgettable
You did look tired when you crossed into Germany, glad you stopped for a break. Long day of driving. Enjoyed the video of your adventures 👏 images were great
Good to see you getting in some early practice for shooting in the Pennines in the winter👍 - hadn’t thought of Iceland in the summer for that, bit of a pricey solution though. Hope you manage to get your exhaust fixed easily & cheaply without having to flog a Z7 to pay for it.
What a great adventure Thomas. I enjoyed the complete journey. The van did you proud and got you there and back. You captured some really nice image's on the way back too. Look forward to seeing your next video.
I would just make sure it's not a collapsed or restricted exhaust (or muffler). That could cause power loss and damage while driving especailly for long periods of time or distance. If need be, cut a hole in the exhaust to bypass something that is blocked if you have to. I had to do that once when my muffler collapsed on one of my cars years ago, I cut a slit in front of the muffler (it was loud) but let the car run better until I could get a new muffler put on (but luckily the cut was far enough back that I didn't get any fumes into the car itself).
Knew you would have to go past Bremen on your way. Just didn’t know when. And you even spent the night here. Would have loved to come over for a little chat and a drink. But I guess you were too tired anyways. What a trip! Glad to see you and the Delica have returned home safely.
Must have sounded like one of them Whitely Bay bad boy racers rocking back up with the knackered exhaust. Loved the images on the way back Thomas, the first abstract one looked like mercury balls, really cool capture.
Wonderful photos of the Icelandic thermal field. I've been photographing thermal areas in Yellowstone for decades now, and your photos just on that short stop are some of the best. Generally, in Yellowstone, you have to head for the far back country to be able to get close access to thermal features like that. The park has been closing more and more of the closer-in thermal areas. I particularly liked the way you put in an appearance in the reflections from all the bubbles.
Welcome home Tom, those bubble shots were fabulous. Totally enjoyed every episode of this trip. I'm very surpised you werent pulled over for that noisy exhaust though, hahaha. Again, 'Top Job' 👌👍
An option is to retrofit a larger case high output alternator. That can help you in charging your deep cycle batteries when the sun isn't shining. You can charge as you drive.
wow, 499,- is totally worth it for the worm-hole, lol! I have to admit, I was pretty flummoxed for a moment there!! 😂😉( had to watch it three times, I kid you not because I was genuinely confused, lol) Well done and altogether: thanks for taking us along on your trip! It was an amazing journey with you 🤩
What a great series. Stellar work and deep deep FOMO results from the whole journey - even the broken exaust wouldn't deter me. Thank you for all your efforts!
Obviously this would be more epic if you went full TopGear and converted the Delica to an amphibious vehicle and sailed all of the way to the UK! I mean... how hard can it be?!
He could have at least welded that exhaust pipe.
I like your thinking!
Not hard at all given the three embeciles managed to do it
That's my next project 😅
Great video, what an epic trip with your own faithful van!! Also respectful greetings to your lady for letting you go on such adventures! The photography community appreciates that!
Excellent. Living vicariously my travel dreams through your videos!
Thomas, this has been superb, I have loved every episode, every mile, every view, every photograph, you do this really well, Thank You
Many thanks! I really appreciate it 🙏
Better than any TV show I watch. Dare I say, better than NG. Even my daughter enjoys watching with me. Thank you!
Hey Tom! I've thoroughly enjoyed following you on your trip and fully appreciate the work that goes into these videos. So there's a lesson in there for me. Many thanks and congrats!
Loved the image with your reflection in the bubbles.
WOW !! That was quite the adventure and thank you for having us all travel with you. Absolute amazing photos. Thank you Thomas.
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
Loving the bubbles *and the fact that your reflection* is in them all 👍🏾
I am not overly interested in landscape photography but these videos remain interesting, inspiring and highly enjoyable. Your personality, humour and outlook are pure entertainment (boil in the bag food I could do without!).

When I drive across the U.S. I have the same feelings and breathe the same sigh of relief at the end.
Are you kidding me Thomas, not even one shot of our beautiful country, the Netherlands.
We enjoyed you fantastic trip and photos. Keep up the good work.
Great to hear you say gentle words about the German Landscape. A much underrated country to discover for Landscape Photography.
Thank you Thomas, I've really enjoyed the story of your trip. I'm envious of the big road trip as I’ve only ever done rental car trips. I just need a camper van! And I love a ferry ride.

Love the crane fly image at 8:54! Poignant and well composed.
Yes, that one made me tear up a little.
Love that road from Seydisfjordor. I was there in June. I'm still missing Iceland. I intend on going back in the summer of
2024. Your photographs are amazing. Thanks for the amazing video
Just a short drive, 'up the road', in Australia.

More bubbles! Echoes of of the Svalbard trip.

Exhaust tape and a bit of of putty can quiet down a leaky flex pipe pretty well , never leave on a long trip without it.
Thoroughly enjoyed this series. Now for some autumnal photography. Cheers.
This has been an epic series Thomas, really enjoyed it. I hope Iceland has left you with some amazing memories as it did with me. I’m looking forward to your next adventure.
It's the pat of the Delica's dash on reaching home. Brilliant journey, watched it 3 times already. 😊
Great images Mr Heaton. Keep up the great work. Always inspiring and as others have said even your bad images put my good ones to shame. Have happy and productive 2024

Excellent Thomas, what an excursion. I bet you slept well when you got home! I hope your wife liked her gift too.
Gostei muito de acompanhar essa linda viagem....muito obrigado por compartilhar. Sucesso no canal....
Thoroughly enjoyed this Iceland series. Thank you.
Really enjoyed your Iceland trip, a photographic paradise..congratulations to your Toyota for getting you home again..many thanks and best wishes
Only half way through but love this video. Your story telling is great, makes me excited to travel too!

Thought it was cool being able to see you in the bubbles

Nice trip and the photos are very beautiful. Now we have to fix that snoring Van. Congratulations!!!

Gotta love that Mitsubishi motor! On my second one and they are very tough vehicules! Thanks for the adventure and photo's Thomas!
Warp time ticket add-on made my day. Thanks 😂
Excellent story. Masterful camera technique. I doubt few people could make a tale out of going home.
That first bubble pic, superb 😊

I really enjoyed this series. Great shots dude and the van worked so well for you.
Love it Tom :) grumpy and moaning about noise lol welcome to mid life lol .. fantastic video just loved it :) welcome back 🙏
What a trip!!! Remember you can get to the Faroe isles from Edinburgh with Atlantic airways

What a trip. And I love my calendar!
Great to follow your journey, loved it and thank you, just noticed that van sound is more of a Harley Davidson sound now.
I’ve had my old 1988 Land Cruiser sound the same it was from a similar issue. It the looks. Hot exhaust didn’t like cold water on a small crossing
Hopeful for a classic fall outing in the Lake District!

It was all about camper van adventure, like it

Awesome series Thomas. I totally enjoyed it. Your steed served you galliantly.
Good to see you are home and well with the van! Lovely video series mate, thank you for sharing! 🙂
Wow, those moody ethereal shots are awesome!
Loved the whole trip, well done.
Brilliant video series and hope your Delica gets some maintenance after all the jostling.
haha, "Squatting Thomas" reflection in the bubbles! 🤣
Already looking forward to your next adventure

What a trip! Amazing series man. I would love to do it myself one day.
What an adventure, I loved this. What beautiful country, and then your images. Great job

That was a good trip, enjoyed it all. Cheers.
Have just l-o-v-e-d every installment of this adventure! Thanks for sharing all of the good, the bad, and the ugly.
What a great series. Stellar work and deep deep FOMO results from the whole journey - even the broken exaust wouldn't deter me. Thank you for all your efforts!
