So taurine improves longevity but so do drugs that reduce amino acid uptake? Personally i think the overemphasis on mTOR in rodent models is missing the mark for human longevity and healthspan. Muscle mass/strength and cardiovascular fitness are some of the largest modifiable factors in longevity/mortality, why would I want to increase my frailty with low amino acid diet and fasting (which has also been shown to be less beneficial than exercise for autophagy)...?
Periodic supression of mtor might even have an anabolic effect and thus improve quality of life while aging. If we look at the studies done on the fasting mimicking diet, organs shink during fasting, cells get more efficient and healthy through autophagy, but it is during the refeeding that stem cells replete, organs regrow in a more fuctional way, the immune system is rejuvenated, and the whole body basically replaces lost cells and tissues with more healthy ones. Also, muscle mass stays stable, which is not the case with traditional fasting or chronic kcal deficit or low protein diets. My bet is that a switch between low mtor / insulin / igf-1 and the opposite probably gives us the best of both worlds. There has also been some evidence that this type of fasting activates some of the yamanaka factors.
t is possible to go low protein and maintain muscle mass. A cycling scheme is my favorite... periods of high protein, high fat, low protein and short periods higher carb (never>40%) and of course times of restricted calorie intake... TRF is always being applied. with constantly doing exercise. and those also cycle in style. This allows to keep the strength, and improve body composition.
I say the improvement they get is the same you get from going to eating meet eggs and fish and removing carbs, but without the protein deficiency 😊

Among these 4, I think taurine is the most promising, affects all hallmarks of aging and affordable. Plus Dr Sinclair started taking it after the taurine's study published.

taurine makes me feel terrible, makes me irritable and really angry, so it seems overhyped to me- altjhough maybe its just me

Knowing that Nestle (w/ Amazenthis) owns the rights of Urolithin A, makes me not trust these studies on this specific compound
for me, at 1g/day urolithine A had great effect.
The data before Nestle bought the rights is sound. I just get it directly from the supplier's rather than Nestle.

Gemifibrozil has a bunch of nasty side effects (Check wikipedia). I think we have to be patient here until better analogs are developped using the Gemifibrozil formula as a lead. The other 3 are all great and well tolerated.

why does taurine make me so unwell if its so good for me? makes me super angry- although i do have sibo so maybe some neurotransmitter deficiencies?
I found on youtube: "Noteworthy that taurine and beta alanine antagonize each other, supplementing taurine for a while without minding beta alanine can cause beta alanine depletion".

Now I take Beta Alanine after the first meal and Taurine one hour before going to sleep.
That should only occur if one eats to little meat. Although there's competition, inhaling and exhaling compete as well and you're managing breathing, aren't you? @HvdHaghen
You might have a Sulphur related issue and might need to increase your choline intake.
Sibo and feeling unwell after taurine, that's clearly pointing to bad nutrition, characterized by too much carbs, among others. Taurine improves the metabolism of fat, it even signal the body to rely more on fat (also the reason why it extends life span). If you are not fat adapted, you will feel like all energy getting drained. That's because you are carb addicted. Would be interesting to see your lipid panel and know your waist / height ratio.

Was excited about Urolithin initially but then looked more and more at each of newer studies over past years and results show in humans not much of any real benefit. Speaker here related to company so is very biased and overhyping. Developers could submit for ITP group to test urolithin A over past several yrs but appears not as probably be a big disappointment with no benefit to lifespan just as other studies showing no benefit to general health. A few compounds in ITP showing some benefits and these need to be studied more in humans.
