There’s a lot of bravery here but I want to highlight someone specifically another Air Force man named Jason Cunningham he was a pararescueman new guy. Jason was on the helicopter that landed with the rangers and began treating wounded on the impact basically. He was shooting, moving wounded to safer positions, shooting some more to go grab another wounded guy take them to cover he did this nonstop even when he himself was wounded. He then realized he was hit and the ranger medic wanted to treat him he refused medical care and continued to fight and take care of his patients. At the end of the battle he was exhausted and bleeding out his eyes were fading and 30 minutes before extract he fell asleep never to wake up again. For his actions he was awarded the Air Force Cross. The team leader also received the Medal of Honor the entire SEAL team had Navy Crosses unknown amount of bronze stars with a V for Valor and Silver Stars with V for Valor and most men got Purple Hearts which indicates you are wounded. Let’s just say it was hard to not award every man a MoH bc they all fought like enraged animals on Roberts Ridge. God bless them all🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

The same guy, Slabinski, would later become a commander at DEVGRU (SEAL team 6 for those unfamiliar) and infamously order his operators to bring him a head on a platter. They were supposedly seen by someone in the process of decapitating a dead combatant to bring Slabinski his requested head on a platter. Slabinski would deny it was meant to be taken literally. This was arguably the 1st event that would be the beginning of coverups and lies by a few seals. Chapman was a combat controller, not a Seal. A combat controller is the person on the ground communicating with the planes and ordering airstrikes. One of the Seals received the Medal of Honor during this fight, claiming he was actually the one that did everything that Chapman did in this video. It wasn't until years later when some technology advanced and the footage was reviewed again that they realized it was actually Chapman who was the lead soldier in this video. Seals are the best of the best but, there have been a few of them that have been damaging their reputations and the truth is finally starting to come out. Glad that Chapman finally got the recognition he deserves.

This is actually viewed as a failure in the SEAL community, but it took a while . Part of the SEAL ethos is to never leave a team member behind. They also had a deliberate attempt by the Navy to downplay Chapmans heroics in favor of the SEAL team leader who also received the MOH which many now feel he didn't deserve. It took 16 yrs for Chapman to receive the MOH. This was 6mos after 9/11 and now in 2024 many know and will remember who John Chapman was.

Navy SEAL Neil Roberts the fallen SEAL who they were there to recover was aboard their MH60 Helicopter was thrown out the rear door after an enemy fired a RPG at the helicopter and the pilot tried to avoid being hit by the rocket. Not 100% sure on the story as to how Neil Roberts was killed but they went too Robert’s Ridge to recover his body. And the operation was called Operation Anaconda and the Army Rangers and Night Stalkers and Air Force PJ’s who are on the second MH60 Helicopter that crashed had no idea that John Chapman was up the hill from them fighting for his life to give them a chance to get into the fight. John Chapman is the epitome of an American Hero. He knew he was never getting out of there alive and just did what needed to be done.

To receive the Medal of Honor - only U.S. service members who distinguish themselves “through conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty” can receive the medal. So basically his badassary earned him the highest honor award anyone in the military can receive but can only receive it 1 time because it only awarded basically when they went above and beyond their duty to risk their life. So you don’t “win” the award you earn it. It earns you a lot of respect within the military, generals in the military actually have to salute YOU if you have received it and you don’t have to salute anyone first after you have received. Theirs also a law or something that says your kids are entitled to be able to get into a military academy if they want. Long story short it’s a rare award for badass people that go above and beyond.

This amazing story is just one of many in the history of combat, look up Audie Murphy for one, after being turned down by every branch of the service except the army because he was too short to meet requirements, he went on to become famous for protecting and saving some dozen of his men and when it looked like they were going to be over run in superior numbers by germans while wounded he jumped on top of a dead burning tank in danger of its gun ammunition exploding any minute and started hammering the German attack with its 50 caliber machine gun in the open with no protection and killing them all - soon as he jumped off the tank it exploded. There are many more stories of extreme heroism in the annals of warfare

Look you are glorifying this in the wrong way. first off chappie wasn't a seal he was a USAF combat controller and a damn good one. Second when the narrator talks about John team leader not catching up with him he wasn't trying to catch up with him they where bounding towards the first Bunker using the most basic and effective combat maneuver ever invented : Cover and Move you shoot while your partner moves when stops and starts shooting you move simple but effective. Yes John's actions were heroic he earned that medal ten times over but John was unique he was just doing his job he was doing what anyone on that team would've done in that situation. This is not a unique trait in the US Military the vast majority of put in this same situation would've done the same. No one wants to be in a situation that meets the requirements to be awarded the medal of honor because it's almost never a good situation 99.9% of the times this honor has been awarded has been because the shit. Has hit the fan everything and everyone is fuck because literally everything possible has gone wrong and everyone is going to die. Chappie did what he did because it was his job to protect the person to your left and right and if that means s you have to die to accomplish that then that's what you have to do most people in combat rarely actually fear dying themselves but everyone in combat is terrified of a teammate getting killed because of something that they did or failed to do. This video isn't cool it's not awesome the world is a lesser place without Niel Roberts and John Chapman.

He also makes it seem like johns team abandon him they thought he was dead if they knew he was alive they never would've pulled back the only reason they were there in the first place was they thought Roberts was Alive and he was but he was killed just minutes before they landed the whole story of operation anaconda is pretty crazy

John Chapman was an Air Force Combat Controller. Yes they spend about a week training with SEALs but they are not SEALs. They also train with other Special Forces like Rangers, Pararescue, Green Beret. But are not part of a team. This is why Chapman missed the rally point in the beginning. They were not sure Petty Officer Roberts was dead. He had fallen out of the helicopter previously when they approached the summit and had to dodge a RPG. The helicopter returned to base and the SEALs said they were going back to find Roberts. Chapman said I'm going too. The leader said no you don't have to go but Chapman said BS I'm going. It was dark but you are looking through the night vision of a CIA predator drone. Our guys had night vision goggles but Al-Qaeda did not. As the team leader follows Chapman towards the bunker all Al-Qaeda can see is the muzzle flash of the leaders weapon. And concentrated fire on that. When they got in the bunker Chapman got hit the leader said he could see John's chest rising and falling with exhaust vapor from his mouth. But then he no longer could and thought John had passed. They did find Roberts dead and thinking Chapman was also, decision to call for exfil was made. They would come back for a recovery mission later. That is until another Combat Controller heard Chapman and a QRF was called in.

Most MOH recipients get the award after their deaths.
Its not really a medal a person wants. A lot of people usually die.
My hats off and I do honor every MOH recipient. I'm just saying I don't think I'd want one.

13:36 "I love how patriotic Americans are. That's beautiful."
I've left the data several times and it's highly likely that you've read my comments. Only 18% of Americans 18 to 34 say they're "extremely proud" to be American. Among all Americans it's 39%, down from 70% twenty years ago.. Pride in the country is in free-fall. In my opinion, the numbers are headed much lower. So I ask, why don't you recognize this reality and try to understand it, instead of asserting something that's no longer true?

In the U.K. 1 of every 50 people you ask will say they love the U.K. so your stat is incredible in comparison to the UK

    • @cygnusx-3217

@@yassandfats According to a 2021 poll from PEW ... 41% in the UK say they're "proud" of their country, 46% say "often proud and ashamed," and 10% say "ashamed."
In the same poll ... 39% in the US say they're "proud," while 50% say "often proud and ashamed," and 10% say "ashamed."
So, people in the UK, ever so slightly, are prouder of their country than Americans, according to this poll.
The most interesting part of the poll is that those on the *political right* expressed much higher "pride" than those on the *political left.* For example, in the UK, 17% on the left expressed "pride" compared to 58% on the right. The numbers are nearly identical for the US.
There are many polls that ask a variety of questions and the numbers vary from year to year. Keep your eye on the overall trend.
YT does not allow outside links but if you search I'm sure you can find the poll.
