In this video I discuss the performance difference in games between 1-10 CPU core allocation on Parallels Windows 11 ARM virtual machines. In my testing I discover that performance is variable but generally speaking, 6 CPU cores works performs the best in most games, despite the fact that this is over 50% of the CPU core allocation of my M1 Max chip (which has only 10 CPU cores).
If you would like to run games on CrossOver which can run Windows games with much greater performance, please see this video about the latest release of CrossOver 21.1: • CrossOver 21.1 Release...

Hang on a minute.. that version which allows you to use 6 cores is a yearly subscription model purchase. You can't buy it out right, so yeah it's 'a little more expensive' every year..

Hi Andrew, thank you for the informative video. I think what I would be really interested in is a comparison between allocating 8 GB RAM Vs 16 GB. You didn't really test this with the same amount of cores in your other video.

Thanks a lot, Andrew for doing this thorough test. Great to know. ♥️

Great comparison. Don't think it's worth going from a standard perpetual licence with 4 cores to an annual subscription of pro for 6 cores.

my MacBook Air M1 16/512 pretty much can't run any game in parallels and crossovers doesn't work with any of my games.
it makes me so sad :( hopefully metal 3 will be nicer
I'm debating upgrading to a pro 14 during my return period but if I can't game well at all with the pro 14 base model (can I?) might as well save it for a gaming PC

Parallels 18 is going in price in October. You probably knew that. I am wondering if I should buy it now by using your 10% discount code. Is Parallels 18 the only quality software to run Windows 11 Arm on M(x) chips today? If I buy the forever version, won't that not work in future MacOS versions though? Thanks for your channel.

I wish Crossover/Wine ran as good on Mac as Proton works on Linux. Proton is awesome, and even many DX12 games run great... whats holding back Mac from doing that is not having Vulkan support and being stuck with Metal mainly.

    • @QH96
      @QH96 2 года назад +1

I don't think Apple will ever add vulkan, but they could make metal feature complete with vulkan.

Soon we would be able to run Linux (with hardware acceleration) on M1 macs. (Thanks to people at Asahi linux).
Then we can dualboot into linux and use Proton on M1 macs.

I only have one question because I’m looking for a gaming computer but also love the quality of apple, my question is:
is the Mac achieving these FPS numbers at High In-Game Settings/Graphics or on the Lowest settings?
Because I don’t want to throw out a ton of money on something that won’t even run my games decently.

    • @Andytizer

Thanks for this awesome review. My biggest takeaway (which answered the question I had) is that while 6 CPUs provides the most consistant performance, the extra price of the Pro Edition may not be worth the extra 5-frame gains unless you're a serious gamer (in which case it might be time to get a gaming rig).

Don’t care for Parallels subscription and subscription models at all.
I’ll be more than happy to pay exorbitantly more for the pro-editions and had no service support on a perpetual license, knowing I can still use the application offline and indefinitely is far more assuring and adds to the value of services. There is going to be a point the subscription/service economy is going to burst. - Only so many things people will pay for every month/year.
