- A pick ups video after over a month (maybe even a month and a half) with 4K and Blu-rays from Vinegar Syndrome, Scream Factory, Shout Studios, Criterion, and more! I had literally just watched Blood Simple I think the night before the news broke. So sad. One of those actors that was always good in everything. A great character actor.

These Cameron releases have really shown us who and what we can trust as objective sources and reviews. I certainly really appreciate your honesty and opinion surrounding it. Love how you do your reviews and videos as well!

I hope I can keep you around. The Cameron releases are so disappointing. I want to do that final wrap up video now that I've watched all three. The whole thing I find so bizarre. I don't know why he wants these films to look like this.

Thank you so much! I try and be fair if I can by acknowledging issues others bring up and whether I see it or not with still saying that the issue may still be there. Especially with color timing which is hard because there are films that a lot of us are used to seeing one way while they might be intended to look another. Then there are filmmakers who just want to alter the look of their films for some reason. It's such a weird thing and complicated to try and understand what is going on with certain releases.
Nice pick ups. Definitely looking forward to the Dr Terror 4k. I finally ordered Red Rock West before they sold out; also just had All That Money Can Buy come in from Criterion.
Very nice! The Red Rock West release is a good one. A nice selection so far for that new line of theirs.
Used Cars is awesome!! Yes, it was the 2nd film from Zemeckis and Romancing the Stone was his follow up
Thank you! I didn't want to stop recording to look it up. Usually I have my iPad next to me and I can check real but I didn't today. If I remember correctly he panicked since Used Cars didn't do too well at the box office and then Romancing The Stone saved his career and he was able to go on and make Back To The Future. It has been a long time since I watched Used Cars so looking forward to it. I think I might watch it in the next day or two. I feel like I need a fun film like it now.
you won the James Cameron lottery - mine are supposed to arrive in April! Lotsa classics in your latest haul - I have 3 O’clock High also super fun movie the director said he lifted a lot of the stylistic shots from Marty’s After Hours film.
I just watched 3'O Clock High earlier in the week. Really fun film and I love that he had After Hours as an inspiration. I am surprised all three of my Cameron films came in when they did. I kept getting different shipping dates, most for April, and then they'd ship the following day. From Amazon no less. lol
Dude, 3 O’ Clock High is not only one of my Top favorite 80’s movies, but one of my Top overall movies ever!!! It’s such an amazing Cult classic and i used to love watching it with my dad. Great flick
Nice! Makes me more excited to watch it now. I think I saw it as a kid but I am not really sure. Even if I did I probably won't remember much so it will be like a first time watch either way. I'm going to try and watch it this coming week.

Cool! Have you seen that behind-the-scenes video that either was first uploaded or first hyped up about a year or so ago of them doing Ted White's makeup (from the same year as Starman) for The Final Chapter and filming the unmasking scene, showing that the way he looked with the makeup was a little different from any of the busts, etc. that people have made?
I have seen the one that I think is from Tom Savini's own videos of them applying the make up to him and a quick moment of them filming when his mask gets ripped off. Is that the one or is there another?
I love seeing behind the scenes stuff. Especially with make up effects. Always find it fascinating.

Oh cool! I love that video. Glad the full version is out there these days. I remember first seeing a small snippet of it in the Tom Savini documentary Scream Greats and always loved seeing that small bit of them applying the make up. If I remember correctly he asked Dick Smith for some help figuring out how to properly design the make up to apply it properly. I love things like that.

I have The Abyss, Aliens and True Lies coming. Also was blessed enough to get Hollow Man and Anaconda steelbooks from Target online when they had a sale, 2 for $24 on the way. Ring box set and High Tension in the mail. And, I'm heading to a new Barnes and Noble tomorrow with a side trip to 2nd and Charles. I have a problem lol. Love your pick ups as always, I have 3 o'clock high in my amazon checkout right now lol. Keep the longer videos coming. Kinda surprised you got Going South already, waiting on mine still

Wow! You have a lot of great stuff coming! Very cool on the steelbooks. I keep hoping they do a 4K of Hollow Man but it probably won't be for awhile. Let me know how The Ring set is. I want to get it but I am waiting for a sale. In my eyes you don't have a problem. Of course, we may both have the same problem as I glance over at my large pile of movies that I still need to watch. lol That is good I'm not the only one who feels the Trainspotting case is odd.

Haha It's a nice set but I do hope a lot of these do get single releases. I never got the first two sets and there are still movies that never got released outside of them.
The only thing I got recently was a bootleg of the Swedish kids tv show Pippi Langstrumpf. I first saw this show dubbed in Spanish on Puertorrican tv in 1975. I couldn't understand what they were saying but it looked fun. Also 4 of her movies all dubbed in Spanish as I saw them as a kid but now I understand Spanish. I have seen them 3 times and have relieved a part of my childhood. I think there are a few chapters on you tube. Anyway awesome acquisitions especially those Vinegar Syndrome ones. Thank you! The sets are fun. I just wish they would eventually release them on their own. A few movies from previous sets, that are now out of print, still haven't been released.

INTO THE NIGHT is one of the best Landis movies, don't get your gripe about the length. THREE O'CLOCK HIGH is like a high school comedy directed by the Coen Brothers. Lots of great technique. And THE LAST DETAIL is a classic.
Can't wait to watch both of those! If I saw Three O' Clock High as a kid I don't really remember it so it will be like a first time watch either way. The Last Detail sounds like something I'd like and since it's a Hal Ashby film I haven't seen then even better. Hoping I can watch both of them this coming week.

Whoa man, Three O’Clock High!?!? I love that movie I’ve seen it 20 times lol I’d love to get a copy of it, been after that one forever, good to see they finally Blu-ray released it. I’ve found it streaming once in a while. You’ll probably remember right away. Likely you’ll remember Buddy Revell quickly lol that’s if you’ve seen it anyway.
I think lol it’s a really fun movie, one of my guilty pleasures for sure. Still waiting on the movie Speed Zone though a.k.a. Cannonball run 3. That one is so hard to find. I still say they should make a new cannonball run movie and have cameos of today’s stars all over it. I think it would be fun and probably make some decent money.

I scored that Clue in 4K as well, this time I didn’t miss that one. Oh man I would’ve been crying if I did. I actually looked for a 4K steelbook for clue, but unfortunately they didn’t do one. That’s a missed opportunity for a sweet steelbook. oddly enough, I haven’t watched it in 4K yet either.
Point Break is another one that I’ve seen probably 50 times, that my friends and I often quote lol I remember seeing that in the theatre when it dropped as a teenager. Still seeing one of those yellow minions when I look at Singapore sling 🤷🏻♂️

The thing I hate about those "Columbia Classics" sets is that there is usually only one movie I want and they don't release the movies separately.
I love that Time Bandits cover, lenticular covers can be amazing when done right.
I agree completely. I like the movies in this set but Starman was the big one for me. The last set had a lot of films I really wanted so I felt like that one was worth it for me. But yeah, some of the other sets I really just want single releases and not all of the films. The sets are really nice, the design and the book, but we also need all of the films from all of the sets released on their own. Same here on the Time Bandits cover! I hope it showed up on camera ok.

The Last Detail is a good one. If it doesn’t seem, original it's only because so many movies copied it in the last few years.
The fact that it's a Hal Ashby film I can bet that a lot of films since "borrowed" from it. lol I'm really looking forward to seeing it. He may not have the biggest filmography but the ones he did make are pretty great.
Great pick ups! Did you grab Arrow’s Inside the Mind of Coffin Joe boxset? Definitely an early contender for best release of the year in my opinion!

Speaking War of the Worlds, which version do y'all think is the best now? The old Criterion or the new 4k Paramount? Theres quite a few editions now... 🤷♂️
Great question! I think they both come from the same 4K restoration so it may just come down to how well the 4K is. I haven't watched it yet so I can't say but I have heard it looks great.
Did you happen to get the corrected disc for Rosemary's Baby? Apparently a line about her being in labor or something was missing from the first pressing.
I am not sure. I need to double check. I did get it recently so if they already replaced them with further pressings I might be ok but I should make sure. Thank you for the heads up!
@@RichardDiazI could be wrong, but I seem to remember hearing that the barcode on the back is yellow for corrected discs. Don't quote me in that, though. I would definitely take a look and see if "We happen to be in labor here," is indeed in it. I believe that is the line.

Some really great stuff, Richard! I think I prefer shorter videos. This could have been two which works for me a little better. So many titles! Blood Simple is great! Used Cars is very fun. I picked up a couple of older titles from the Shout sale including Warning Sign which has some good ideas and could have been a great film if the script had been tighter. That Columbia Box set looks very good. Star Man a great John Carpenter movie. I still need to get my Cameron 4ks. True Lies has some problematic issues that mar what should have been a very fun film. That is the best War of the Worlds version. The Tom Cruise version is bad. Too many questionable decisions by Spielberg. The constant screaming for one. That's a big batch of movies! I hope you have a blast watching them and catching up! And a great weekend! Sunny weather down here. Almost too warm! lol We did get a bit of rain and hail. Not enough rain.

It had its moments but the original is just so special.
@@RichardDiazWe got hail last week. Luckily only penny size but very noisy. I also liked Pal's version of When Worlds Collide. There's a very short sequel book. Both are an interesting read.
You should do a criterion vs second sight release comparison sometime. I love both companies but sometimes one release is better than the other and I’d like to see which set is the better buy.
That is a good suggestion! I was wondering about that with Mean Streets since both companies put that out with the same transfer but I don't know if Second Sight did any additional work on theirs or not like their did with Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I need to look into that. But yeah, love that idea!

I bought the Columbia box set for the same reason, “Starman”. I was happily shocked that Columbia picked that title to release! Also I love Criterion releases but sometimes they have bad packaging choices. Why they don’t stick to one design is beyond me. “All About Eve” is one of the worst! The disc is held in place by a rubber button!!??
Starman really sold me on the set and I finally watched it the other night and it looks amazing. I agree on Criterion. Their regular cases are fine and work well. I don't get why they need to do different kinds.

I have not seen your review of The Abyss yet, but from earlier experiences I am not over thrilled with anticipation since Mr Cameron himself has supervised these titles. Just as he did with Terminator 2…
Cameron is a fantastic story teller and director. Really is. But he is also TOO impressed with technology and wants to be leading the development in that field within the realms of film making.
I would trust these movies with genuine movie lovers like Vinegar Syndrome and Arrow but I really, sadly, do not trust James Cameron in the restoration field. Knowing him, without knowing him really, he wants to make these old and loved gems look like they where made today. So trying to make grain and noise disapoear I would guess he caused a soft and over polished look maybe loosing detail in the process. But I cant know of course.
I love Three O Clock High! See it and tell!
Into the night is a fantasticly fun and strange film that I need on 4K! All Landis movies are a must have for me! Wonder if Kentucky Fried Movie and Amazon Women On The Moon will ever come to 4K? The latter not being Just Landis but also him! Still very funny!
Starman has to be released separately! I must have it but not all those other titles. I have limited space! Lol

Cheers Alfonso! There is the possibility that some may think I like a movie or two. Haha I agree with you on Cameron. An amazing storyteller and filmmaker and I love technology too but I still love, and want, films shot on film to look like film. I don't understand his desire to make these look more digital. It baffles me especially now that I've watched all three. Hoping to make that video on all three soon. I've been thinking about my thoughts on them all week. I did watch Three O' Clock High the other night and it was great! I would love 4K releases of those John Landis films too. All of his films in fact would be great in 4K. I hope Starman does get a single release. I'm still waiting on some of the movies from previous sets to get single releases.
