Thanks for the pointers really appreciate the info, got some small blotches on my motorcycle tank gonna try again. Using a harbor freight gun, living on a budget.
Buffing our splotches means to first use a rubbing compound usually with a cutting type of pad. (Look it up) After buffing starting at top of panel and going down, move it to the right then go from bottom to top until your finished with the piece your buffing. Following that you want to use a polishing compound with a softer flatter pad. Using same technique. Follow that up with a wax to seal it in. Plenty of videos on how to do this but hope this helps
I was waiting for you to tell him north south east west on his paint Strokes its the way I was taught 40 +years ago. It will make the metal flake flow better......
I sanded and base coat painted then clear coated my Sons car and it has tiger strips. Watching your video I realized it was lack of enough paint to over lap. Is there a way to fix without having to start over from sanding stage 11:02 . How can I send you a pic of car? If only I would have found you earlier.

Hey Man! You can wet sand them down with like 800 grit to get it flat and then you could go down to 1500 - 2000 and buff. If it’s a darker color that you’re buffing over, you can go down to 2500 to 3000. I normally don’t go down to 3000, 2500 will be my max, but you could go down to 3000 and then buff it out. You can put a light coat of primer over your sag area and your run area and then basically block it out. As you sand you’re going to see the high spots, cut down, and then whatever’s not cut will be low spots and you’ll see the primer as your back layer. So the idea is to basically block everything out until your primer starts sanding off, that’s when you know you got it pretty flat and you could buff over. Generally, you want to buff over 2000 grit if you’re going over darker colors. You can wash it down a little bit more, go down to 2500 grit even 3000 If you choose to. Hope this helps! Thank you Tony this was an important video. For me as I am still a novice good to these crucial points about bloches thanking you my friend keep up the great job
You can use a harbor freight gun it’s more about making sure your doing 75 percent overlap I used a spectrum and the black widow form harbor freight and don’t have issues as long as I’m taking my time over lapping so don’t got to get a 300+ paint gun not in the beginning anyway later on maybe yea
For painters using two stage application and a gravity gun, what psi and nozzle size do you assume is the MAXIMUM most painters would ever use (color and clear)???
Hey Man! Check out LABAP VIP Program and Learn How To Auto Body & Paint Like a Pro and Download Your FREE 85 Page Auto Body and Paint Manual at vip.learnautobodyandpaint.com/home
I would say no bigger than 1.3/1.4. Pressures are different gun to gun but for a typical gravity gun, for base you wanna be in the low/mid twenty psi range and for clear you want mid/hi twenties psi to the thirties. You have to look at your pattern and what the paint is doing. Not enough air and it's not gonna atomize. Too much air and you'll waste material and get dry spray
Hey Man! If you have rough spots in your paint that feel like sandpaper, it indicates that the paint surface is not smooth and needs to be corrected. You can clean the surface, sand it and apply clear coat. We got step by step process on all of our projects in our VIP Program check out vip.learnautobodyandpaint.com/home
tony i have to buff out 2 week old clear coat i wet sanded it 600 800 1500 2500 i buffed out a panel and it is totally cloudy what do i have to do to get out the cloudiness. Larry B
Hey Man! Single stage is a when you combine the color and protective clear coat into a single application. Unlike two-stage paint systems, which consist of a separate base coat and clear coat, single stage paint eliminates the need for a separate clear coat application. painted my first motorcycle a few weeks back, but i didn't seal the gas tank seal properly and gas was seeping on the paint and it bubbled up. then when going to repair the bubbled up spot the clear just peeled completely off like as if it was tape. i added pigment in it to give it a chameleon paint job that i got from a plasti dip site so i dont even know what i did wrong for it to peel off in sheets. and it smelled like solvent when removing the clear... any advice?
@@HowToPaintYourCar it was empty but once I filled it up the was gas leaking around the tank seal on the top so it bubbled. Would clear normally peel off that easy tho? I’m talking the whole tank was peeling off like it was vinyl wrapped. Gonna redo it and add more clear coats on top as I think there was a bunch of little problems all together!

Next time you do it make sure your tank is empty. You pretty much have to redo the whole thing.
