For Abbado, conducting this masterpiece is a sacred act, he is never afraid to take as much time as the music warrants, what a wonderful performance.

Wonderful, unique performance, as partnership between Claudio Abbado, the orchestra and soprano Juliane Banse. Thank you to EuroArts for making this available.

Ruhevoll. Entre los mas hermosos y profundos movimientos lentos de Mahler. Una maravilla.

Une interprétation magnifique!La nature s'éveille de partout et le son des clochettes est délicieux! L'orchestre et un chef d'orchestre hors pair font revivre Mahler

I've never seen an orchestra so pendent of the conductor. Not implying it in a bad way, they did it absolutely marvelous. It just striked me how much they wait for Maestro Abbado cues instead of looking at the score.

this is striking in his Lucerne orchestra too, I take it as a good sign.

I like his performance with the lucerne festival orchestra better. It exaggerates the articulations in the 2nd movement soli, which I prefer.

The 1st movement is brilliant - reminds me Bruno Walter. And the last, ah, made me pick up Der Zauberberg, Onlt Thomas Mann could describe the Alps in similar way.

Mov. III, il più bell' adagio di Mahler?

I agree, together with the 4th movement in the 5th symphony.

      Assolutamente sì!!
E il movimento n4 forse è il più bel lieder di Mahler.

She sings a funny text about heaven and angels and what they arej just cooking. The scene is full contrasts, ironic and most zynism. Its Gustav Mahler. It’s aworld not open for everybody.
