60 years ago I was 20 years old. Already deep into classics, student, short of money, I discovered in a used LPs shop a record of this work. Never had heard about Mahler then, like most people, I believe. Bought it and was stunned! Rushed back to shop to search for other things from Mahler and found a "Titan" by Bruno Walter (mono, of course). Stunned again! I "forced" a group a friends (8 of them) into an audition of the 4th trying to share my feelings. Didn't manage with them all, of course, but at least two become addicted to classical music, to my satisfaction.
Along the next decades Mahler became a must for every orchestra, Presently, among my 5000 (plus) CDs I have all the symphonies and all the other works by Bernstein, Solti, Tennstedt, etc, etc. I know most of them so well I like to think I could conduct them! (except for the 8th, no surprise!).
Although a bit fed up with the 4th, that I know so well and heard a gazillion times, I just heard it played by the NDR a was stunned again! Perfection! Perfect conducting, perfect playing, perfect sound, perfect filming. I was as pleased as I was when I heard it for the first time. Please NDR, keep them coming. It's Mahler "renaissance".

Echt faszinierend!

A marvelous reading which highlights this symphony’s ties to Viennese classics, Mahler’s so-called ‘return to Haydn’. Bravo to all!

Looking for Heidi Stober videos I accidentally stumbled across this one. What a fantastic performance, beautiful voice and orchestra playing! Mr Albrecht and the Radio Philharmony create a truly colorful Mahler experience. Btw excellent sound quality - shame that no recording team credits are available in the video.
Keep up the great work 👍

All the sound for the many NDR performances on here have been superb in the recordings. The magnificent performance hall helps too. Thank you all you engineers. My excellent JBL bluetooth speaker picks up every nuance.

i listened to this performance completely amazed and astonished - transfixed & transfigured - I have listened to this symphony too many times now to count or remember - but this performance is by far the best - I don't know how else to put it - are these orchestral players human or gods from another realm ?

Decades I have been trying to like Mahler to no avail and probably never will. Nevertheless, outstanding orchestra and wonderful oboe sound.

    馬勒的交響曲都很沉重又冗長,只有這首長度剛好又優美。真的就像在天堂一樣。
