- Information Society (también conocida como InSoc) es una banda originaria de Minneapolis, Minnesota, EE. UU. Desde sus bases nacieron los primeros elementos del Techno Soft, mezcla del synth melódico, elementos del Funk y soul. Forjaron el paradigma del Synthpop Estadounidense, generando con ello un puñado de bandas emergentes que siguiendo el legado, irrumpieron en la escena mundial.Su formación consiste en: la voz principal Kurt Larson (alias Kurt Valaquen/Kurt Harland), Paul Robb y James Cassidy, los dos últimos volvieron a reunir a la banda en el 2006, inicialmente con Christopher Anton como vocalista, luego con Harland se reunió con ellos como vocalista en el 2007. Su éxito fue en 1988 con el sencillo "What's on Your Mind (Pure Energy)", un sencillo de dance/synthpop que incluyó una frase de esta canción en Star Trek, Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy) dice "pure energy", y ocurre lo mismo con el Dr. McCoy (DeForest Kelley), también en Star Trek, diciendo: "It's worked so far, but we're not out yet!". Son conocidos por su gran cantidad de leales seguidores en Brasil, Japón, España y México. Information Society es considerada el mejor exponente del Synthpop del otro lado del Atlantico y fueron la respuesta estadounidense a la Segunda Invasión de las máquinas desde el Reino Unido.

Hi, OP here. Having worked in the media before, yes, yes they would be. Aside from having Kurt's word to it (and no rebuttal from MTV), it's fairly common in media and advertising to squeeze every penny.
I met the band in Argentina in 2014. I was the only person waiting for them, I got in the soundcheck. We spoke with Kurt about this issue and he even laughed his ass off when I imitated his pissed off face seen here. Kurt invited me to the show and when I said to him that my copy of the 1988 record belonged to my absent father, after the show he even gave me some life advices related to parents. We had a heartfelt concersation. A great experience. So Kurt, if you ever happen to read this, thank you for these words and I hope to see you once again on the road and talk to you!

5:11 always loved the early band style: they looked like an 80s metal band but played music with drum machines and synths.
The music Kurt did for Soul Reaver 1 and 2 was some of the best music and sound I heard in any game ever. He did his own album after InSoc that was more what he personally wanted to do. It was amazing but I can't remember the name of it. He really didn't like performing as InSoc after a few years, his contracts basically made a slave of him and wouldn't let him make the kinda music you wanted to evolve into.
The name of the album is "Don't be afraid" I really love it.

Kurt was PISSED btw. I completely agree with his point of view.
One of a kind band
It's really interesting to see their fan base because I've always grouped Kurt in with having a more experimental Synth-Industrial influence. Despite their sound having pop-appeal they were a crossover having been a feature in the 90s Goth/Industrial scene. They'd be on our mix tapes, played in the clubs etc. I think even Cleopatra(?) records I want to say featured some of their music from what I remember and they're a predominantly Goth/Industrial label.

VH-1 (Viacom) are assholes they barged into the guys place of work interupting his co-workers. If I was Kixeye I would have had them arrested for doing what they did. At the least I would have told them to take their camera's and leave or be arrested for trespassing.
I'm on your side Kurt I applaud you ! Also I think it takes a lot of brass to ask pro's to perform for free to make your company money and not them unless it's a charity thing.

I love how they try to paint Kurt as an asshole when it's so obvious that he's being blatantly sarcastic to the film crew and Aamer. This perfectly matches the stupidity of the crew and shows how artificial Bands Reunited is.

Knowing Kurt personally, I know he was annoyed and felt invaded. Knowing his perspective, it really soured my opinion of this show. Glad it's off the air now.

Yo me enteré por la nota que le hicieron en Argentina , donde Paul contaba que estaba todo armado , cuando de entrada Kurt había dicho que no , pero VH1 lo hacía aparecer como que si ; con el beneplácito del resto de la banda .
