Flashing green intersection at the intersection of Loring and Salem St in Lawrence, MA just off of Exit 101 of Interstate 495. The flashing green is on Loring St, not sure if this was a regular 2-phase intersection in the past or when they switched it to flashing green. No Red+Yellow phase here during the pedestrian phase, just an all red indication.

October 2023 Google Street View shows that it was flashing yellow and flashing red at that time, so it must have switched more recently. I've also never seen a flashing green in Lawrence, and I know I've been this way at least once on foot, so that's more evidence for a recent switch.

Hmm interesting - I wonder if prior to your first sentence, it was operating in full colours at all as all the heads have standard R-Y-G indications. GSV suggests that the signal has been running like this as old as 2008-09. Still not sure why they would change to flashing green, unless it was a mistake as seen with the Quincy installation a while back.

Sure indeed, though most of these are starting to be phased out in favour of modern signal phasing. I actually caught this one by surprised on an unrelated visit a few weeks ago, so I had to actually see it in person when I had the time!

Looks like it was a regular operating signal at one point, and possibly still can be used as a regular signal.

Why are people going through the red?

My guess is because people don't see the signal, especially since it's mostly flashing green at rest unless a pedestrian presses the button. People also run the older red+yellow signals as well too, though both are starting to be phased out with more modern signals.

Is the controller a large controller on a foundation or mounted on one of the signal poles?

I think the controller and cabinet is pedestal mounted
