If you listen to the songs younger people listen to today it makes more sense why songs with harmony and melody are like speaking an entirely different language. Music (especially post 2015) doesn't need any melody at all nowadays. And people vibe with that.
So I think he's just not vibing with sounds from the 20th century. Lex on the other hand grew up on older music, so she has some basis to identify what makes each decade sound unique.
If they have kids hopefully they give them a good dose of some of these 20th century hits they've been discovering on this channel.

The Righteous Brothers Bobby Hatfield (featured here) and Bill Medley would usually each do a solo as part of their act. This was done for live broadcast tv on the Andy Williams variety show in 1965. A studio version was used for the movie Ghost. The song has been covered by over 600 artists, but this live version is the gold standard. Lots of ladies across the country fell in love that night. Bill's resonant bass worked beautifully with Bobby's counter tenor. Their duets are legendary. Consummate pros.

I always enjoy watching Brad and Lex comment on a great performance, but their lack of appreciation, especially Brad's, for Bobby Hatfield's incredible performance is mystifying! How many people can hit those high notes, male or female, without showing extreme effort? Bobby looks so relaxed as he hits those notes without any apparent real effort. He makes it looks so easy, although we all know it is anything but easy. His voice is so soft and calming, yet attention getting! Bobby Hatfield was a master vocalist, and owns this song!

Not only was this a very beautiful romantic song that was written January 19, 1955 NY a Mr. Hy Zaret, and sung by Mr. Todd Duncan for a prison film called "Unchained". As time went by "Unchained Melody" was the most played song in the Twentieth Century in America, Canada, and throughout the UK. Then later in July 13, 1990 another movie was made, "Ghost" starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, and Whoopi Goldberg and singing "Unchained Melody" was a Mr. Bobby Hatfield formerly of The Righteous Brothers who sang it after going their own way after being a back up group for The Beatles. Not only that Mr. Bobby Hatfield had a pretty damn good singing voice to say the least an it was his rendition of "Unchained Melody" that was even better than Elvis Presley. Adios Amigos. Adios.

When he said he felt like this was in a "90's classic movie" - I'm pretty sure he's talking about when it was used in Ghost with Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze, which is definitely what reintroduced this song to a new generation. The sensual pottery scene with this song is iconic.

It was in the movie "Ghost" and sang by him (he wasn't in the movie) in the scene where Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore are making clay pottery. The RIghteous Brothers is two guys (not related). Sometimes one would take the vocals, sometimes they sang together. This song is from 1965 and was a big hit.. They didn't have auto tune back then and this is a live performance. Many people covered it but this is the original. And no one could sing it better. Bobby passed away just over 10 years ago. Thanks for reacting to it.
