As others have mentioned: 1965. Live performance. No autotune, no sophisticated audio filters, no retakes or dubbing. Just pure, raw, disciplined talent. I wish we had music and singers like this today.
The story is that Bobby actually refused to ever mime
Also not a backing track but a live orchestra.
@@Mudghoamen to this comment! I’m 69 years old and loved this music so much! Tender and enduring words and love songs! Little did any of us realize that years later these songs would be as popular now as they were back then! It makes my heart happy to see the new younger generation rediscovering the great talented artists and music of our time! And I tear up everytime I hear this song by Bobby!
You've lost that loving feeling is probably their most popular song. Definitely a good listen
I second that!
You've Lost That Loving Feeling was the most played song on American radio in the 20th century, over 8,000,000 times in 35-years, blowing away everything since they first started playin music on radio
The other Brother is actually not his brother. His name Is Bobby Hatfield. His singing partner is Bill Medley who is the complete opposite in voice . The two together are dynamite.
Bobby Hatfield making women swoon and fan themselves for 60 years. Legend.
Absolutely. I was born in 78 and he was my childhood crush.
This was always a song that Bobby sang alone. Bill sings in all the other Righteous Brothers songs. Bobby does an amazing job on this song . Bobby Hatfield & Bill Medley😊
As Bill said, he did not think it would be a hit.
I WAS 16 WHEN BOBBY SANG THIS SONG - I KISSED MY FIRST GIRLFRIEND WHILE DOING A SLOW DANCE ON THIS SONG - I BELIEVE THAT MORE PEOPLE FELL IN LOVE AFTER DANCING ON THIS SONG, THAN ANY OTHER SONG IN HISTORY !! BOBBY's SONG CHANGED DRAMATICALLY WHAT WAS PLAYED AT A DANCE, EVEN FOR TEENAGERS LIKE ME AT THAT TIME - 1965 !!!!! THANKS BOYD, FOR THE WONDERFUL NOSTALGIA IT BRINGS !!!!
No falsetto, he was a rare counter tenor, gave him a huge range naturally. He was early twenties, first time on tv, orchestra in next room, mum in audience, getting over a head cold. No pressure? huh, nailed it. These guys always did a solo on each album. Listen to his Summertime?
Under pressure!
Someone mentioned that his mother & his fiancee were both in the audience. I have no idea.
What a voice! I was 16 when this came out & can't think of another tenor, throughout the years, that I thought was better than Bobby Hatfield.
When Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield began to perform as a duo, at the end of one of their concerts, a man stood up and said “That’s righteous, brother!”
And that’s where they got their name.
Another version of this video has the intro to the song with both Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield (this singer) with Andy Williams, the host of the TV show where this performance was broadcast, talking about their name and who was selected to sing this. I remember watching this performance on television when it was broadcast because my parents were huge Andy Williams fans and never missed a show. Our babysitter who lived next door came over to watch because she loved the Righteous Bros. Her mom wouldn't allow a TV in the house. Loved your reaction, this song has a great deal of magic to it. Spread the love, thanks!
Oops...that's Bill Medley, not Hedley...
@@thomastimlin1724 corrected! Thanks!
Absolute one of the best artists from the golden 60s
This was a live performance on the Andy Williams show. His mom was in the audience at this performance. His little lip bite at the end reminds me f a little boy trying to impress his mom. so sweet.
I read somewhere that he had a head cold that day. I can hear it a little when he moves up the register.
Greatest performance in history .
Watching her facial reactions throughout the song, priceless
No Autotune....just talent
Just PURE singing
That was live. No auto tune.
Beautiful ❤️🔥 it's soothing to listen to him, the song is a timeless song of pure love and longing and wanting, just beautiful 🙏
Fantastic range and control, simply top tier.
You have never reacted to another fantastic voice ,Eva Cassidy , her vocal range and ability to bring out every emotion in any song is just amazing...........never equaled. Her best know song was done live in one take, a master piece!
Blues in the Night Fields of Gold Songbird Chain of Fools Over the Rainbow
Come on, really? Actually trying to compare another singer to the great Hatfield? I have heard Cassidy, and although she is very good, she can't hold a candle to this guy (but so can no other singer either).
@@jessieball6195 What are you talking about, there was no comparison between the two singers.
There is no real answer to the "who is better" question, the answer is weighted by so much personnel experience that everybody's answer is of course the correct one.......for them.
Her performance of What a Wonderful World is amazingly warm & poignant, especially considering her approaching death...
Eva Cassidy is absolutely mesmerizing. She was a towering talent who was just about to break out when she died so young. A terrible tragedy. I lived in DC for a while and she was like a comet blazing through the club scene there.
I was 18 when this hit my radio station !!! Real music , real bands , real times , for real people !!!! Wish I was back there now !! 🇺🇲🇺🇲👍👍✝️✝️
Yeah, me too. Those were the days!
i got see Bobby sing this live at the beach in Newport Beach Calif. had to stand abou 15 ft. from the stage. One of great things about growing up in that area was all the great music. Yes it was a duo but there were some song they did that only one of them sang.
This is a Live performance on The Andy Williams Show. 1965 - there is no auto tune or other computer graphics available in 1965. Just raw talent. First time for his mother to be in the audience at a live performance. This is Bobby Hatfield (RIP) and his 3-octave tenor range. smooth and in perfect pitch/tone/control with ease. The other part of The Righteous Brothers is Bill Medley with a deep and rich baritone. Together, their harmony is superb! Should check on "You've lost that lovin feeling" (1964) and "Soul & Inspiration" (1966).
OMG the Righteous Brothers music I grew up listening to them 1965 as a teenager. I have all of their vinyl record albums in my record collection. I'm 74 yrs and hope my grandchildren will love them as I do!
Oh my 😊that accent brings me back to summer 95 . Travelled throughout Spain for 3 months. Man did I make the most of every minute. My favorite country I’ve lived in .
Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield were doing a gig down south near a military base, and afterward one of the soldiers stood up and yelled "That's righteous brother" and that became their name. Blue eyed soul sound.
For those of us that lived those years in real time, don’t you just miss it, we had the best of times to come of age😅
This was great!
His mom was in the audience that night for the first time in their career! No pressure!
You need to check out Bobby's "Ebb Tide". It is so much fun to watch young people react to Bobby. There is nobody like him today. No effort. He just opens his mouth and this comes out. RIP Bobby. The Righteous Brothers are a duo...Bobby Hatfield, seen here, and Bill Medley. They each sang solos in their performances. No auto tunes.
"You've Lost That Loving Feeling"
A great song from both of the brothers
Although listed as a Righteous Brothers recording, it is actually a solo by Bobby Hatfield of a throwaway song. The duo agreed to record one solo song for each album. Both wanted to record it but Hatfield won the coin toss. It was released as the B-Side of "Hung On You" but radio chose to play Unchained Melody, a cover of a song first recorded in 1955.
Their producer Phil Spector would deliberately place a throwaway song not intended for airplay as B-Sides. Spector went nuts, calling radio stations demanding they stop playing it. Although Spector is credited as its producer, Bill Medley says he produced it. Spector produced singles & he let Medley produce album cuts or flip sides.
There's a longer version of this appearance on The Andy Williams Show that opens with Andy talking to both Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield (The Righteous Brothers).
Bobby sang this on the Andy Williams Valentine Day special, hence the coral-colored suit jacket. I saw this special on TV when I was 22 y.o., almost 60 years ago! There was a spike in births about nine months after Bobby sang his anthem. His performance was perfect. The other brother (Bill Medley) was standing in the wings. Usually they sang duets.
Possibly the most beautiful voice ever
Shout out to Cynthia. WOW! What a beauty!
SIR, I LOVE YOUR VOICE. SO CLEAR AND SO ARTICULATE. AND THE FACIAL EXPRESSIONS ON THE LADY IS SO TOUCHING.
This is a masterclass
This is the shortened version of the show. Just before he sings, the host was talking with both 'brothers' [not real brothers] and the other one didn't want to sing the song as he thought it wouldn't be a hit. The host and other 'brother' come back after he's finished. There is the 'full' version on RUclips too. Thsi is just the 'song' version.
You need to watch/listen to the most listened to song of the 20th century.. You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling by.. The Righteous Brothers
In the longer version of this video it starts with the host of the show interviewing both of them and when he says he's going to perform this song the host asks why it´s a solo song instead of the usual duet and the other dude Bill Medley jokes that it's because he didn't think the song would be a hit and he refused to record it, so now whenever Bobby Hatfield performs it he just goes to cry in the corner offstage.
Without prejudice to all the other singers of that time , in terms of singing talent he was simply the top of what you can bring musically live without technical gadgets . No one has been able to approach this to this day.
They have always been two most talented singers I have ever listened to. I have never been present at one of there shows. I would like to see one of there shows.
Check out YOU’VE LOST THAT LOVING FEELING. You will see both members of The Righteous Brothers performing in a black & white video from December 1964.
Hundreds of people have sung this song but none have done it better than Bobby Hatfield. This song was in the film 'Ghost' and was great but this live version is stupendous. No auto tune or gimmicks just pure talent. He had a cold at the time, his mother was watching him perform for the first time and he suffered with stage fright. When he hits the high note at the end he does not strain like other singers when they hit a high note he just bites his lip and smiles as if to say 'I nailed it'.
Love her reaction... She didn't expect this...
Yes, there are two brothers namely Bobby Hatley (the main and only singer of this song Unchained Melody) then the other brother's name is Billy Hatley together they are known as Righteous Brothers.
You can search these songs titled "Soul and Inspiration" and "You've Lost That Loving Feeling", where both brothers (Billy the tall one and Bobby the shorter one) sang together.
Good luck and enjoy watching and listening friends.
Greetings from California U.S.A, Eddie.🤗👋🙋♂️👍
Pure and magical.
Bobby was a counter tenor and he has a wider range than regular tenors. That means its not falsetto he can hit high notes easily.
"Vocally he is very good" are you kidding me? arguably the best male singer in history and it is a live performance.
This song was from the movie “Unchained”, about a man in prison debating whether to finish his sentence or risk an escape.
It was a rare occasion that he sang alone, the e other guy actually stepped of the stage just before this song.
She was in a trance when you stopped the video. You should see the intro to the song that shows both singers.
ah the memories of the skating rink to this music
~ I just stumbled onto your channel and saw this review of Bobby Hatfield's rendition of "Unchained Melody".
Bobby Hatfield was an amazing singer - even back when singer's viewed their voices as instraments - Bobby was considered a master of his instrament! 💝
Unchained melody was my brideal waltz i have. Been married 26 years it gets played
The Righteous Brothers are not brothers they got their name when they started out playing clubs , They played a Gig in front of a black audience and someone at the club said to them they sounded Righteous and they used that name .
His partner in crime Bill Medley is there, he was chilling with Andy Williams stage side.
Bill produced the song in the studio and Bobby sang it alone.
Andy Williams interviews the Bobby and Billy before Bobby sings Unchained Melody here. In a previous concert, after they finished a song, a fan yelled, "Righteous, Brothers."
David Aquarias-This is the version from Andy Williams show. If they had started the film clip from the beginning, we would have seen the amusing chatter with Andy.
Righteous brothers r the best duo of all time! U need to play more of their songs. SOUL AND INSPIRATION, YOU'VE LOST THAT LOVIN FEELING and more
Bobby owns this song.
I loooooove it!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Each of the Brothers sang one solo on each album.
I just love it, when you find something that astounds you. I love your reactions so much~ This was our very Favorite Dating song back in '66 and it thrills me to see that you have the same reactions that we had, way back when :)
Beautiful song, the brothers were so talented ❤
There are 2 Righteous Brothers : this is Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley is the other. They got their name at one of their performances. After a song a guy in the audience stood up and said "You're righteous brother !" True story.
yes- there are more brothers
The Righteous Brothers were Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield, who did Unchained Melody. They performed together and were fantastic but each occasionally sang a solo. I enjoy your reactions and respect them, and am glad you had a guest today. When two or more react, we hear different bits we may not otherwise hear. Either way, I am a follower.
Story goes his mother was in the audience and I bet very proud too. Please do Loving Feeling reaction too. I love soul. Greetings from Finland 🇫🇮
Check out both "brothers" in the Rogers and Hammerstein hit You'll Never Walk Alone (written for the 1955 movie Carousel.) Bill Medley (the other "brother") has a fantastic baritone voice - the 2 are perfectly matched.
Unchained Melody was also written for a 1955 movie: Unchained, a very forgettable movie about a prisoner pining away for his woman.
On each album I believe each "brother" did a solo to feature their voices. The Righteous Brothers originally recorded Unchained Melody (without that fantastic ending) as the B-side for some other single - they didn't think Unchained Melody would be a hit. At the time Phil Spector was producing for them, but Bill Medley produced Unchained Melody.
Love ❤️ songs like this were the music that was popular when I was young in the 1960s. It was so romantic to dance with your boyfriend.
Lookin at the camera like "damn you guys...set me up" 😂
the story of their name, is in the original intro to this video
Always makes me cry! 😢
Smooth move man!
There are a few songs that Bobby sings alone. Bill Medley , his partner also sings a few by himself.
Check out You’ve lost that Lovin feeling and Soul and Insperation which they sing together
I'm not sure how Mr. L Boyd can be unsure about Ths Righteous Brothers, as he covered Soul and Inspiration 3 months ago.
He was a counter tenor, capable of a broad range of notes. He can power through to very high sounds.
Need more clean entertainment like this nowadays The shock factor is his incredible voice, not trying to take his clothes off or anything like that.
Bobby und dieses Orchester......die zusammen.... da regnet es Gold.😊❤❤❤❤😂❤😂
Mr Boyd turns into a giddy school boy whenever she's in these vids😂😂😂
Great reaction. No hysteria, just natural.
I like your ‘appreciation’ glances at the camera 👍😂
They reunited at the 25 anniversary of American Band Stand and did an updated version of "Rock and Roll Heaven" it is awesome.
A reaction of a reaction. Very enjoyable to watch.
You should check out "You've Lost that Lovin Feeling" to hear both righteous Brothers. They were an incredible team.
If both of you had watched the whole complete the complete clip of this song you would have seen the introduction by Andy Williams and the other half of the Righteous Brothers and the explanation of why there was only one singing. And Andy Williams has his own resume of songs and albums throughout the decades.
Many guys have played this song for their "friend" over the years, I suspect. She sure is beautiful!
Probably top 3 voices on Earth. If you ever watch the mega hit movie "Ghost" and here this song you will know who it is...(Whoopi is in the movie.)
Your guest was nice to gave on, and I like the details she gave of the performance
Really love, that you invite guests!
I truly miss those days. I was in the tenth grade.
This song was birthed in a 1955 prison movie titled "Unchained." In that movie, a prisoner plays a guitar and sings this song asking and wondering if his loved one wanted him back once he gets freed, or had time changed feelings for him. MrLBoyd: Here's a version of "Un Mel" with Andy Williams' intro, wherein you can learn of the "Brothers' " name origin: ruclips.net/video/93X5ZgERcPc/видео.html (you can zoom ahead to the 1:00 mark to get to the heart of the matter).
This performance was on the Andy Williams Show and includes a very funny intro with Bill where they talk about the Duo's name "Righteous Brothers" and why only Bobby sings this song.
BTW -- this was LIVE ....
yes -- there are tow -- the other one is just sitting out on this because -- when he recorded this - the other member thought it wasn't going to be a hit ... and now you know ....
I think during the years Bill Medley & Bobby Hatfield preformed together as a duo, there were only 2 songs Bobby recorded alone. Bill did a song or 2 as a solo also.
I honestly think this particular song wouldn't have been nearly as popular or as fantastic if they'd sung it as a duo.
It was written in 1955 as a prison ballad & Bobby wisely, with ihs beautiful voice, turned into an extremely dreamy romantic song.😍🥰😘
One thing so many fail to mention on this particular song, is the beautiful music being played ! Just a beautiful piece of music!
This is Blue Eyed Soul. This is Bobby's song and always will be. No matter who else sings it. They're 2 singers in Righteous Brothers. This is Bobby Hatfield the other is Bill Medley
Thank’s for your reaction ❤. Here is the link for you to understand why Bobby is singing solo. He is an incredible and prolific countertenor , which group name , Righteous Brothers, is related to their R&B and Soul music. The Blue eyed Soul ❤ ruclips.net/video/7G5fgTiPfVI/видео.html
He had the most incredible voice and let me add, those great good looks didn't hurt.
There’s a longer clip of this performance that includes an introduction where you find out how they got the name Righteous Brothers and why only one of them is singing.
Great song and voice !!!
Mr Lloyd
Singer was Bobby Hatfield. Righteous Brothers are a duo: Bobby, Tenor and his singing partner, Bill Medley, Baritone. During this telecast, Andy Williams' show, Andy asked them on how they gotten name prior Bobby singing this song. Bobby and Bill says that they were doing a show. One of the patrons stated that their performance, "that was so righteous brother!" Rest is history.
