  • And here we have another editions of vintage but make it witchy. This video is a sewing vlog/ tutorial on making this vintage skirt. My design was inspired by my love of making vintage fashion just a little witchy, and the Barbie Movie from 2023.This is a project that was shelved last year to support the Writer's and Actor's Strikes of 2023. While I am not part of any of these unions, I feel like supporting the artist that create the works I am inspired by is important. Thank you to the iconic team that created Barbie and help reclaim a toy that meant so much to me as a child.
I made this skirt out of quilting weight cotton with a print from the Halloween section at that big box fabric store which is in financial hot water. I picked up the pattern there as well from Simplicity when it was on sale. If you are looking for the same pattern look for Simplicity S9449. It is a reprint of a dress pattern they released in the early to mid 1960's based on the cut and styles in the post war USA. An affiliate link to the pattern is included below.
I wore this dress to Costume Con 42 in Denver, Colorado. Just incase you remember this from Day 1 of that Vlog. It was super fun to learn my entire Canon M50 with its kit lens fits into the pocket of this skirt and it doesn't cause any additional issues from weight. I hemmed the skirt up a bit because my petticoats for this style are not as full as the pattern was originally designed for.

Soo soo cute! Love the pattern and fabric you picked. I did a similar holiday skirt several years ago to match my significant other's holiday suit.

Basting also helps avoid the tension issues that pins can sometimes create because of the way they go through the fabric. And you can leave them in to keep everything in place until you're done, instead of having to pull them out to avoid sewing over them or stabbing yourself. 100% worth it.

Absolutely. I don't baste everything, but I'm so much happier when I do
