    Love your channel. We’ve spent so much time watching/learning from you. I’m putting in same return system as you’ve covered in this video including same suggested pump and parts. Can my 60 ft return be 1/2 per or should it be like the main supply and be 3/4? Thank you

    • @ThatTanklessGuy
      @ThatTanklessGuy  6 месяцев назад

      3/4" is the best, a Rinnai will flow the best with that size pipe

    The further most appliance is the outdoor shower which is supplied with 1/2 copper and is 15 feet from where hot line is 3/4. I was thinking of running my return to farthest point. So if it’s 1/2 does return need be 3/4. You know what that pump flow is so you know best. Thank you for advise

    • @ThatTanklessGuy
      @ThatTanklessGuy  6 месяцев назад

      It should be all 3/4" a Rinnai will flow through 300 feet at 4.5 and a Navien will flow 600 feet at 5.0

    the one thing I don't understand, is - using a external circulator to move the water, how do you tell the water heater to heat it, since there is no 'flow' of water turning on the unit?

I want to add a pump but I do not have a dedicated return line, so I am confused as to where to install the pump. I was going to purchase the RWMKT03 . I need some guidance as to how to install it

    Great information, well done. I have a need for this type of setup and would like to know if this equipment is "waterproof"? From what I can tell, the pump and aquastate is not, so what should I do for an outdoor setup to protect the equipment from the environment?

  • @andrewwelch5668
    @andrewwelch5668 3 года назад +1

    Couple of questions on the recirc line setup:
    1. Wouldn't you need a shutoff valve on the outlet of the pump to isolate it if the pump and/or check valve go bad and start to leak?
    2. Is it better to move the purge tee from the inlet to the outlet side of the pump to help eliminate air from the line all the way up to the pump?

    • @TheBuddylab
      @TheBuddylab 3 года назад

      You could add a second valve but unlike a hydronic heating system there’s not that much wster in the system so replacing a piece is very fast. The purge tee needs to go on the inlet side of the pump and check valve. I hope this helped. Mike

    • @sbitschy
      @sbitschy 3 года назад

      I kinda agree Andrew, I don't understand why you wouldn't put the purge tee between the pump and the check valve. The circ pump does have a bleed screw(i think) so you don't have to bleed after the pump. Great video though Mike, learned lots. Would like to know the reasoning on the placement of the purge before the pump.

    • @sbitschy
      @sbitschy 3 года назад

      thought about it a bit. You need a shutoff after the purge. If you put purge and shutoff after pump, you need a shutoff before pump. Need 2 shutoffs then. Might be other reasons.

    • @TheBuddylab

      That amortization is a commercial unit the Rinnai unit would be a CU199 the residential unit would be a RU199 and if you want circulation capability it would be a RUR199. I hope this helped. Mike

    • @TheBuddylab
      @TheBuddylab 3 года назад

      Did you run out of propane. If so you would need to bleed out the air in the gas lines. You may also want a propane service person check the gas piping when you run low and our if propane you can draw in the liquid from the tank into the gad valve.

    Help, help...for a vertical vent thru a 6/12 roof, will either roof flashing work where the 6/12 slope is the minimum slope or the maximum slope. I bought the one ( 189950 ) and it doesn't look like enough slope. What keeps the rain from leaking in on the vertical vent ?

    • @TheBuddylab
      @TheBuddylab 3 года назад

      That is a 1/12 to 6/12 pitch roof penetration. Are you replacing a metal roof boot that had B vent through it from your old water heater.

    Good evening sir, I have a RU199in that I want to install a recirculation pump. I have installed a dedicated return line. I ordered the Rinnai-R Wireless demand recirculation kit with push button and pump. After watching this video I'm wondering if it would be better to buy the pump you are recommending/using in the video, and the aquastat controller versus installing the wireless control and using the system within the heater itself. Any advise you could give would be extremely helpful! Thanks you in advance.

    • @TheBuddylab
      @TheBuddylab 3 года назад

      The system you are getting is good. Either the aqua state will turn the pump on or the push button. With the push button the pump will run less but you sill have to wait for the hot wster to circulate. I hope this helped Mike

    You talk a lot about installing a tankless system in a garage, but my current tank water heater is in my basement with about a 15' vent pipe going from the tank to the outside wall on the side of my house. Can I install a tankless unit in the same area in the basement that is currently being occupied by my water tank or will venting from that far away be an issue?

    • @TheBuddylab
      @TheBuddylab 3 года назад

      No you can install it in your basement depending on the model of the Rinnsi unit you can run between 40 to 65 feet of vent. You need to minus off the length 6’ for elks Snd 3 feet for 45* You also have to see how far the vent will exit the basement

    Hey Mike your videos have been very helpful to me with my two tankless Rinnais. I currently have a Rinnai RUC98i that runs on propane and want to add a return line and a recirculation pump. My last Rinnai had a ACT D'Mand pump that was button activated and it worked great. Would an ACT D'Mand SS3-200 work for my RUC98i? From my research this pump is identical to the Grundfos UPS26-99SFC.

    Mike, I installed an RU199i with a GTK15 recirculating pump for Rinnai. I am pipe the same way as shown in your video. The pump get wired into the Rinnai Control Board with the external pump harness (which I had to purchase separately). The parameters were set to 4B (dedicated return line)and 5A (comfort). The pump is running but not heating the water in the loop. The pump stops running after a couple minutes. I talked to Rinnai a couple of times and I'm getting conflicting answers. One said I need a MC-195T-US the other said I didn't since the GTK15 has a dial timer and it is wired into the main Rinnai Control Board. This is very frustrating!! Can you explain how this needs to be wired? My mistake for not just going with the set up in this video.

    Hi RG; 1) Replacing Navien 180P which has a dedicated recirculation line. 2) Installing a Rinnai RU160I + sensei. 3) Removing the Navien (2 wire) circulation pump and integrating it to the recirculation line like your video shows. 4) page 63 of the ru160 installion manual shows to connect the 2 navien pump leads to the pc board. 5) Is that all I need to do for the recirc to work? 6) Can i assume that the sensei does the rest, water temp + on / off? 7) And I do not need the "control R module" ?

      Wire the ump to 110 volts and use a aqua state or a Taco smart pump timer to control the pump either by water temperature or timer.
