Hi Mike, really glad I got on to your videos. I've changed a condominium (4 flrs) standard DHW circulation system to that of a Thermal By-pass System because the original system was f

    Mike,
First let me say your "Rinnai Guy" RUclips Video's are excellent, very complete and detailed. I refer them to all of my inner circle!
    I just finished installing a RUR199i.
    Works great!
It is installed in a ThermaCirc360 Recirculation Crossover Mode, NOT dedicated.
    All parameters are set correctly
    My question is this:
Any time a cold water source is opened, the Rinnai unit activates, and does not go silent until 15-30 seconds after cold water source is shut.
Can even be a toilet. The unit doe NOT attempt to make hot water when this occurs. Connections' are 3/4 cold water in 3/4 hot water out, nothing else.
Town water supply with plenty of pressure (78lb's).
The Crossover valve, supplied with unit, is installed correctly, and is at the furthest sink
To trouble shoot I shut off Recirculation, in settings, and turned off the water connections to the Crossover valve. Issue persists.
As I have said, other than this anomaly, the unit works great.
Any ideas what is taking place here?
    Any insight will be appreciated!
    Joe

Mike, I've been enjoying your video a lot and have a question. Would you need a thermal bypass valve, if you have a dedicated return line? What I have is loop for my hot water line that was installed during the rough in for this new build.

Hi Mike - thanks for talking to me on the phone last week. I decided on the Rinnai RUR199iN and had it installed by a plumber but its not working properly. Water is only a little warm - not hot like the tank heater that was replaced. The temp LED on the from panel reads 120F and there is no way to increase that temp using the UP hard button on the panel. I'm a little concerned that the gas piping may not be correct after watching your proper gas piping video. They used 1/2 inch gas pipe that they converted to 3/4 inch flexible pipe just before it attaches to the tankless gas input opening. There's also no 2nd stage regulator installed anywhere. I tried to determine if my attic gas pipe run is 3/4 inch that was converted down to 1/2 inch in the wall but I could get close enough to verify. I took photos but couldn't interpret if the meter is the 2 lb type either - the specs are listed in hieroglyphic plumbing language :-) There may be problems other than the gas line but not being a plumber I can't know what they might be. How big a deal is the 3/4 inch gas pipe and 2nd regulator? Could that be why the hot water is only tepid? Wish I lived in Florida soz I could hire you - but it would cost a lot more than the $10k I've already spent to relocate. How's the weather there?

I was in the dark about specifics on Tankless Water Heaters until I came across your channel. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I have watched hours of your videos and just purchased a RINNAI RL94I. I am currently installing it and saw this video. Can you advise if my water heater has the capability to recirculate? Thanks again for your expertise

Yes you can use the HE - Plus pump system to circulate the water. I have a video on it back a few months

Great video. Will this valve work with the RSC160iN? It doesn't say it will on the documentation but it seems like the document is a bit outdated.

Great video. Is the drain valve you have between the ball valve and the wall in the return line necessary given that the Dedicated Recirculation Valve
has a built in drain valve?

    • @TheBuddylab
      @TheBuddylab 3 года назад

You need that valve there to bleed the loop. The valve on the new piece will allow city wster to bleed through it not bleeding the loop.

Wouldn't the built in check valve in the dedicated recirculation valve prevent city water from back flowing forcing the vent through the full recirc line and out the built in drain valve? The extra drain valve seems redundant and unnecessary and negates any savings from buying the 107000450 other than including a check valve.

Hi Mike, I have a one year old RL94e. Works great. I would like to raise my temp above 120. It does not have A& B buttons. Which Dip switch do I need to push in order to change temp parameters. Thanks Bill Davies

Hi Mike, Great job on the videos, I have really learned a lot. I am getting ready to have 2 units installed, a RE199 and a REP199 connected with the EZ connect cord and controlled by the MC 195 controller. We are using the dedicated recirculation valve in this video. I am curious on the shut off valve and drain on the return line, since the REP comes with the standard cold water valve with drain and is not need with the DRV could you use it in place of the shut off valve and drain? Thanks again for taking the time to make this videos.

Can any Rinnai tankless be used with a dedicated return line with a Laing circ pump?

Hi Mike - thanks for all the great help, you are really making this stuff possible for a DIY'r like myself!
I have a question: I just purchased the RL94i, I'm going to purchase the Dedicated Recirculation DRV in this video and the HE Pump Kit (with the MC-195T). My question is can I use the RL94i, the pump kit with this new DRV? We ARE installing a full return line during out remodel. Thank you!

Watch his video.... ruclips.net/video/I5cinp8F0Hs/видео.html You don’t need the DRV if you are purchasing the HE Plus Series Pump Kit Assembly (HEPumpKitMC).

(Colin Gilchrist cont'd) failing. That was about 7 years ago. I've learned a lot since I put it in. But now (about 2 years after I had finished my MTCE contract with the building) the buildings owners have brought me in to see what the issue is with their DHW System. About 6 months ago another contractor had installed 4 X CU199i RINNAI boilers - cycled in tandom. They are installed as a Hybrid System hooked up with 2 X 120 gallon tanks (approx.) in a parallel arrangement that stand directly behind the units. There is no dedicated return line and no circulation parameters chosen. So they were operating like a condensing boiler (which it is) on a Hydronic hot water heating system. So everything was out of whack. The cold was hot, the hot was cold and/or everywhere in the building was luke warm. It was just a mess. I've contacted RINNAI Tech support about three times and I got some good information from them and generally speaking it was a good experience. When I started talking about the Thermal By-pass System with them and how I have utilized this in a large building with 4 floors, things started to fall appart. But I still had good conversations. So I just decided that I had to educate myself on how to incorporate these Rinnai Boilers inorder to have the DHW in this building working properly.
I see that the circlogic program which is connected to an external pump circulator will not work inorder to maintain a manually set DHW temperature. So I'm going to use an external pump circulator that is controlled by an Aquastat.
This video about the 107000450 Dedicated Recirculation valve DRV - will come in very handy, thankyou. And that information about the filter as well.

Do I have to have this fancy valve or can I just run my reciurc line directly into my cold water supply?

    • @TheBuddylab
      @TheBuddylab 3 года назад +2

No you don’t have to use it. You do need to install two spring loaded check valves one on the cold Snd one on the circulation line. That valve gives you one check valve and the bleeder. Mike
