    Thank you so much for this valuable information you share on your channel. My grey hair is thriving since I started following your routine. Glycerine + water spritz, leave in conditioner and glycerine, game changer. My salt and pepper hair still feels moisturised after 2 weeks. Am definitely high porosity, I know that now, and it's all because of you. Thank you

    This is so true! I went to an actual hair salon last year for my friend’s wedding and the hair stylist was like, your hair is high porosity babes; it needs moisture right now. I was sitting in the chair so confused. Like you said in the beginning of this video, there is a spectrum within African/black hair but all in all it’s high porosity. Either way it’s beautiful and fun learning more and more about it.

    Excellent presentation! I’ve always known I was high porosity. I’d like to add that in addition or in place of protein, Henna acts like a protein and fills in the gaps of the cuticle, provides a coating if you will, and weighs down the hair. I used to use a light protein, the aphogee 2 minute reconstructor, every wash day. I also used the other one that hardens the hair once a quarter. But NOTHING has benefited my hair in terms of filling in those gaps like Henna. It’s weighty, it retains moisture better, and my strands are very strong! I know some think of it as a hair dye, but if you have dark hair, like most of us kinky girls, then you will not notice much color change. You can actually add coffee to your mixture to make a dark brown tint appear on your hair. But if you have a lot of gray, not so much. Anyway, just putting that out there. Again, great video! 🌺🌸💕

    I have always known I was high porosity, even without doing any water floating test, because I observed my hair and know what it likes. But this information just blew my mind! I must be at the tip of the African spectrum. I was afraid of using protein once a month and also using strengthening teas in between washes but this is the reassurance I needed that I was on the right path! You’re doing the lords work 👏🏿

    This actually explains a lot. When my hair has no products in it it dries super fast and feels very brittle which is a characteristic of high porosity hair. Low porosity hair needs no or really light products but light products don’t last as long for my wash n gos when I layer heavy oils and products on it feels and looks really good. And most of us type 4 naturals love heavy products. I used to think my hair was low porosity because it takes forever for my hair to get wet but I realized that it has more to do with the thickness and shrinkage of my hair then the porosity of it. I am also prone to build up, but I think it’s mostly because I use gentle shampoos most of the time which can lead to product to build up if you don’t clarify when needed. It all makes since now

    Thanks for sharing. I purchased the hask and hi-pro protein masks this weekend. I used the hask mask and my grey hairs immediately fell into line🙂. I'm just getting used to working with my grey hairs.
    I'm trying the hi-pro mask next time around. I'm also going back and purchasing the hask smoothing rinse out.
    The term protein sensitive always makes me cringe. No, find the right protein for your hair and use it when needed.

    Hi! this was great information. Another thing I noticed when I washed my hair a few days ago was that when I ran a strand of my hair through my fingers I could feel the bumps. It would go thin, thick, thin. thick, etc. I feel that is another indicator of our high porosity strands. I also did a protein treatment prior to deep conditioning and my hair felt so wonderfully soft after I blowdried it. This might help anyone who loves silk presses but I've noticed on myself that if I do a thorough wash followed by a true protein treatment prior to heat styling, I don't get heat damage. Thank you coily diaries 💗

    My dear, I was also in this school of thought that my hair is low porosity and I was avoiding protein treatments like a plague😅, my hair was shedding unnecessarily and never had any elasticity.
    I had to do some research and gave my self some sense, now I do protein treatment every single month and my hair is stronger, elasticity is on point and my hair sheds less.

Based on her video I am convinced my hair was also high periosity. I wrote several of my favorite RUclipsrs asking their opinion about this. And very few responded and the ones that did still stuck to their low priority philosophy. I am excitedto see someone else come to the same conclusion that I did. Thank you so much. Thank you. I have mostly type 3a hair with a little 3b and 2c. My 3b haïr is very shiny and curls more springy. The rest grows down, not out and the wave or curl does not reach the scalp. I’ve learned to rinse shampoo out with warm water to open the hair shaft and apply conditioner. However, I use cold water to rinse out conditioner and seal the shaft. My hair is much shinier using this routine. From childhood we used only the lightest cream on my hair, even VO5 was too heavy. This is different hair from type 4 and requires different treatment. I can use a hear protectant and blow dry my hair straight, smooth and shiny without heat damage. I rarely use a flat iron since my hair dries straight and brings oil from scalp with few drops of oil used. Therefore, warning about heat damage to type 4 hair will not and does not apply to me. My hair is strong, healthy and shiny with very little oil, just a few drops of light oil after 3/4 days from shampoo. So type 4 coily girls , please don’t judge my hair to be like your hair. Listen to this good advice and work with what grows out of your head. I’m MGM by the way. When my hair needs washing it is greasy and stringy, not frizzy. I can get an extra day between shampoos with dry shampoo because it dries out the oil.

    This is finally the exact info I needed! I watched the video a week ago. Immediately I started using a light oil at night before putting my rollers (5 for a nice loose curl) in, the next morning I put one pump of serum. After 5 days my hair is so shiny (not oily, my hair drinks the oil) it has a heaviness (in a good way) which enables it to fight frizziness and puffiness! I didn’t have tangles in my natural hair roller set, so I run my fingers only to style my curls. Monday I wash, mask, condition, leave in conditioner, roller set, oil, roll, tie up in silk scarf. REPEAT- GAME CHANGER!

    My black trichologists has an instruction note that tells me and everyone they give the note to that says apply leave in detangler and leave in cream conditioner every day and steam for 20 minutes. I know a lot of people are on the fence about porosity but I know when my hair gets dry. It's a 24 hour moisture cycle. If i go longer than 24 hours my hair dries out.

      @@CoilyDiaries So i live somewhere where it can be humid outside but the indoor air is dry. If there's no moisture in the air, where is the glycerin going to pull it from? That's right:our hair. Pull the moisture out of our hair into the dry air. I don't use heavy raw oils and butters because they irritate my scalp and cause inflammation. Scalp inflammation causes hair loss and which was the main reason I went to see the trichologists. I don't use glycerin in winter. I can't wear long term protective styles. They also cause me scalp inflammation as well as microfractures from constant friction on my ultra-fine hair.

    Great research! You are going to have me trying to figure out my hair's porosity something I've never even thought about before. One thing I can say at this point is on the porosity spectrum my hair is most likely normal porosity based on the videos that Green Beauty did about porosity, and what you said in this video about product application and the kinds of products we use. My hair doesn't like any raw oil or butter that isn't formulated within a product. I use light leave-ins or hair milk with twisted or updo styles and light or spray leave-ins with my WnG. Sometimes I don't use any leave-in under the gel for my WnG. I don't moisturize between washes. When I shampooed weekly as opposed to every 3 - 4 days like I do now I still didn't need to re-moisturise. Your moisturizing technique would have my hair looking like an oil slick and the product would be soaking into my clothing looking for somewhere to go because my hair would not soak it up.
    Whenever you show clips of "Somebody's Auntie" the girl with the lioness mane, I crack up. Her hair is beautiful, but it is quite the chameleon. You should see what her hair looks like when wet.

I just self-installed my own jumbo braids for the first time after watching your other video about protective styles. It was great because I didn’t have to blow dry it.
    So ‘no’ to 3 months with braid extensions and ‘yes’ to 6 weeks? 😅My initial plan when I was following your 3 month rec was to take out a braid every 2-4 weeks to see if my hair still felt moisturized and I was still going to use my steam cap. Noooowwwww, maybe I’ll just take it out at the end of the month. 😂
    What was your set back?

    Hi,
    Extremely clear and informative, thank you very much! Could you give some perspective on natural hair disliking coconut oil?
    My strands are fine, high density and what I thought was low porosity, so I've been using lighter moisturizers with pomades on top because heavy creams like Qhemet Biologics Alma Heavy Cream tend to sit on top my hair.
    However, I live in the Caribbean with everyday hot sun and my hair is mostly dry and frizzy.
    Do I resume using the heavier creams like the QB Heavy Cream for example?

    This was really interesting!
    I have a question. Does all afro hair dry quickly or does it usually take a long time to dry? I ask this because my hairdressing book says that high porosity (I think it meant from damage, not natural) hair takes a long time to dry. I have a friend with healthy curly/afro hair, she is mixed race. She washed her hair at my house and asked me to detangle it for her. Her hair was dry by the time she came down stairs after getting dressed. The very bleached haired women in my class said their hair takes a very long time to dry.
    My question is does yours dry quickly? If it does, why does it take longer for damaged porous hair compared to healthy porous hair? Also why do the hair books not talk about healthy porous hair?

    • @CoilyDiaries
      @CoilyDiaries  6 месяцев назад +2

      The books were never inclusive of Afro textured hair until recently. I don’t know what everyone hair is doing and how quickly it drys etc but as a general rule of thumb highly porous hair holds a lot of water for a short while …it may hold on to it for a moment but long term, the moisture leaves the hair quicker than low porosity hair. My hair dries quickly without product but with layering and oils etc it can take days!

    • @janinedear-barlow
      @janinedear-barlow 6 месяцев назад

      @@CoilyDiaries yes it's really bad. I'm hoping over the next few years they will bring more books to include that information.
      That is what I thought. I'd like to know why it's different. Also does that mean that damaged afro hair stays wet for longer... Or is the book just wrong. Personally to me, it makes sense that if the cuticle is open or missing, it will release water quicker and dry faster. But this is the opposite of what the hair books teach in the UK.
