Ghost Strong J-Cup 2.0 - What's New?
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 31 май 2020
- In today's video we take a look at the newly released Ghost Strong J-Cup 2.0 These are some of the most expensive (and customizable) j-cups on the market. What makes them unique is their craftsmanship and the fact they come with an integrated roller for easily centering a loaded barbell. They also feature Ghost's patented "return roller" feature which allows the bar to be in the same position every time.

2.0 is a huge upgrade! It seems like they learned a lot and fixed a lot of the issues the first-gen had. Great to see
Agreed! Only thing they didn't fix was price :)
I ordered a pair and they should be here this week. Excited to get to use them!
Interested to hear your thoughts.
Can’t wait for mine to come in this week! Nice video man, appreciate you taking a deep dive into 2.0. The guys over at Ghost are really nice too - good people. Always good to support a business like that.
Curious to hear your thoughts!
@@BasementBrandon How long did it take you to get use to the bar rolling back into position after racking, say, a heavy squat? It's got to feel a bit strange for the bar to roll back on you.
Nice review! I predominately use the mono lift attachment, however if I was going to go with a roller, this would be the one i'd go with. It looks like a premium product!
You fancy!
Noice. Just preordered a pair.. I’ve been wanting to get these but didn’t like how loose the first version looked in your previous video. Glad to see they improved it.
I just wish the color options were cheaper, a white one would look nice on my rack :)
Looks Great! You forgot they offer a unique duffalo bar us attachment. Highly specific but for those who own a duffalo worth mentioning. Also price goes up for that includes.
Grabbed some of those too. I kind of wish they made it more of a saddle design that sits on top of the roller so you don't have to change them out.
Since Rogue has bought ghost they brought back their j cups but with some minor improvements at $195 plus shipping, they are only 3x3 but there is a guy on etsy who makes adapters that can allow any 3x3 to snuggly fit a 2x3.
True that
I got two pairs of the ATX roller j-hooks for my 800 Series ATX Power Rack. They are quite good.
Right on!
Great updates, now I will buy them. You should look into a career in sales, Brandon. This is like QVC for men, from the basement!
Haha appreciate that. I've been trying not to be too salesy in these videos but more just say what's good, what's bad, and who might be interested. That way the person makes up their own mind.
Dayummmm $320 for catches. I could buy like.. 1/4 of a post from Rogue with that $$
I was interested until I saw your post on the price. Thanks man!
Yeah not cheap, but if you're in the market and want the best, these could be it.
Since you’re complaining they raised their price by $20. Haha
Got mine ordered last week 😎 can’t wait to get it and try it on my elitefts rack
Looking forward to your thoughts!
Brandon Campbell Diamond just got them in. Few concerns right out of the gate-one Jcup is very tight/fits perfectly on the rack but the other is kinda loose/wobbly (even if you switch from one side to the other) wonder if there’s any adjustability to jcups? Side stickers on both side were kinda damage some/ripped up.. but overall huge upgrade for me from my original elitefts all metal clanky jcups.
i love it for bench not a fan of them for squats
what i really like with these is that they are „going down“ so the bar is in the right spot always and doesnt roll the the innter side uf the cups
For squats I actually prefer them to go the other way!
damnnn brandon with that big balla money! thanks for the review. gonna get them maybe on discount eventually haha
Yeah the discount 1.0s were a solid deal!
This vid is very nicely framed, I enjoy the angle. These things aren’t lost on me. I also like the HVIII shirt. I do not like the AUD > USD exchange rate preventing me from buying it.
Your wallet thanks you!
Brandon Campbell Diamond another excellent point, as the ol’ reduced work week due to Covid got the wallet feeling unloved!
Love the video....not that I’m lazy....maybe....what size pin would you suggest for a monster lite rogue rack? Love the channel. Keep up the great work my friend.
RML uses 5/8"
i really love the one for the duffalo bar but an extra 120 on top of the current cost
Yeah tough to justify.
Looks like an awesome attachment!
It is, question of the day however is the price right?
Brandon Campbell Diamond hmm, id say if you’re a world class squatter/bencher doing 800 lbs+ then yes. If you’re like me doing maybe 300/400+ lbs then it’s not really necessary. But if you’ve got the money for it, why not?
I bought some roller J cups from an unknown company that manufactures them to only fit their racks then cut the extra piece of metal so that it'd stay put on my 2x3 R-3 and use a strap to keep them in place. Total price = 40 bucks. I'm not paying 300$ for J Cups lol
nice man
Quick question. How was the original packaging when the j-cups arrived? Did they come well packed so that the jcups don’t move around in transit?
I have a question, is there ANY benefit to have something like the ghost strong incline bench or competition bench compared to benching on a Rogue AB-2 or ThompsonFatPad with a monolift in a monster rack??
These products cost 3000 dollars but they don't even have a monolift and their pads are narrower, is there anything better about them?
If you are a powerlifter, yes. Practice as you play. But you get cheaper ones than 3000usd.
For the regular lifters one of the few reasons is that you dont need to Center the bench everytime. And maybe it can slide some for people with very good legdrive (but this can be avoided with some "griptape" or something on the floor.
I think it could be beneficial to "practice like you play" but it's up to the individual to decide if the cost increase is worth it. For most people I'd say no.
Do you know of there would be slop on a REP pr5000v2? I think you mentioned reps measurements being slightly off and having attachments wiggle a little bit in another video. Thanks Brandon!
Probably a tad, one of my ghost cups is much tighter than the other on my rogue rack so it really depends.
It would be cool if Ghost would make a 3x3 mono-lift attachment with roller J-cups built in.
Yeah the guy who made my custom ones I have now has something like that, looks pretty dope.
Dayummmm so once my R4 arrives I already got my next $315 spent!! Thanks Brandon!!! lol
Crotone79 ditto! R monster 4 In stainless steel. ...
Ordered a RM490 May 5th, not sure when you ordered yours but there is still no status on mine..so i'm
guessing at least another 2-3 weeks
May 26 and they took my money but process still has not been ordered!! :-( I'm not expecting anything until July
Good news and bad news. Bad news is the cups only are for 3x3 racks currently. The good news? Your wallet thanks you.
Is there an issue when you're using the roller to adjust since it's only secured from one side? I'm getting a PR5000, which I think is only 2.95"x2.95" instead of 3"x3", so the tolerances might not be quite as tight. Do these work well on your PR5000? The rounded sandwich cups from Rep have two side securement pins, which I'm a big fan of, but I'm unsure how necessary it is.
I haven't used it on my REP rack TBH, but I suppose I could try.
These cost more than my rack, lol
lol
Brandon so the roller J-cups from rogue do you recommend them for squats only? trying to get one since i already have two 1"sandwich j-cups from rogue for my RM4.
I think roller j cups are best suited to squats. My only issue with the Ghost ones are that they use the return feature, which puts the bar in the front of the cup. Personally I like the bar in the back of the cup for squatting so I can press into it.
I’m thinking of getting a Vulcan rack? Any thoughts or reviews on it?
I posted a video on them a few months back as they still had stuff in stock, but I would prob refer you to other brands first if available.
Brandon have you used any belt squats? Would you purchase one? If so, which one would you purchase?
I used the eliteFTS one in a gym awhile back but that's it! If money wasn't an issue I'd prob go rhino b/c I could tie it into my current set up and integrate it with my slinger.
@@BasementBrandon the rhino looks versatile and smooth,... but a pretty penny indeed. When you move into your new place will you have more room?
IMO you gotta compare the price to the Monster Lite version of sandwich j-cups from Rogue, which is only $125.
Maybe if I had a Monster lite rack.
They cost $340 now. Cheapest option for shipping is about $41.
Maybe good value for Rogue Monster series J-cup which cost $265 but not so much for Monster lite J-cups which are much cheaper at $125.
Ghost makes some great things, but def not very affordable lol.
At least they made it right though. Quality product, commends a high price.
"Every issue that I had was addressed"
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they specifically redesigned them based on your feedback. You're the roller j-cup guy. Would have probably been cheaper for them to get you involved in the development stage.
Oddly enough that's how I was first introduced to them. When i was posting about my issues making my own they reached out and said they were working on something and would keep me in the loop. Glad to see they take feedback!
@@BasementBrandon You need to get a "BCD Edition" or "Basement Edition" stamp / sticker designed for these companies to be stamping on the products that you've had a hand in.
Or just sell the stickers for me to put on everything I've bought based on your reviews.
You think they will have a black Friday sale? I need these before i buy a new bar
My beater bar knurl is now smooth where it sits on my steel EliteFTS j cups
I don't believe you'll many if any.
By any chance do you know if Rogue has ever mentioned anything about coming out with a pair of their own?
To my knowledge they looked into it a few years ago but never went any further. Really surprised they haven't.
Why do none of the roller cups have UMHW on the front lip? I feel like that's a common place the bar can clip when unracking/reracking
Some of the custom ones I have do.
They aren't so bad when you compare them to the 2inch sandwich j-cups. But it's like 1/3 of a decent powerrack. I really like rollers for squats though, because I can't seem to re-rack straight at all. Think the composite was the correct choice tho, my ER rack has eaten the knurling on my powerbar, but luckily it's not were I would hold the bar anyways.
I really do like these, but the cost is something that will turn most people off
@@BasementBrandon Yeah the price is definetly a turn off. Can get a very good powerbar for that price.
Hey I could use your experience. What j cup or mono lift setup will give me the most internal width for my hands during squat? I have a rogue r3 with the standard 2in wide j cups but I would be more comfortable with another inch or so. Many thanks
I think you're a bit more limited with options on the r3, won't find many (if any that are less than that)
@@BasementBrandon Do you think the rogue mono lift without plastic could work (I already have a metal on metal situation with my iron master squat stand which my Ohio stainless bar has held up mine with)?
@@bold2013 not a big enough difference IMO
Are the J-cups universal for any rack? Are they mainly or recommended for squats only?
They’re compatible for that size hardware of a rack. Super useful for bench as well as squats.
Right now only for 3x3 racks
Any racks in stock anywhere? Looking around the $1000 range
Rogue has some that come in and out frequently. Just have to be consistently checking
I have a Monster Lite rack (3x3) with standard Jcups and Im constantly hitting them when I bench. I also hit them when squatting as well. Will these, or even the Sandwich Jcups from Rogue, solve that? Or is the dimension of the rack itself wide? Thanks!
Dimensions of rack and the collars on the bar you're using. Easy fixes:
-Buy .5" or so 2" washers to act as buffers on the end of sleeves
-put a thin pair of collars on the bar first before loading weight
-put a 2.5lbs plate on the bar first to act as a spacer
-use a barbell with a thicker collar (like a texas power bar)
@@BasementBrandon ahh, ok. Thanks for the info!
will this work with the monster lite?
You can get 5/8' as a pin size, so yes.
These are beautiful, but cannot believe these cost more than my monolift attachment 😅
Yeah def not cheap!
Better sticker? Sold 😂
lol
Any non roller aftermarket cups you would reccomend for monster lite series?
Is there a reason you just don't want to get one of Rogues?
@@BasementBrandon Nah no reason. Just looking at options. I do occasionally have the issue of hitting the stock J cups with the plates when re-racking. I'm your opinion are the samwich J cups worth the price? Actually placing a rogue order in the next week.
@@tylerehrig6722 I think they're solid, def an upgrade from the standard. But some people don't care about protecting the bar.
I’m sold
Beefy
Brandon: what size pins for the Rogue Monster Squat Rack?
1"
@@BasementBrandon thanks so much. I think I will order a pair, but the shipping is offensively high. They should have free shipping or give away a free shirt or headband.
Would these J-cups be annoying for a guy who likes to push against the rack to get into a low bar squat because these fall into place?
Yes. You could flip the rollers around, but if you like to pull the bar towards you for benching (like I do), then you still have an issue.
@@BasementBrandon RIP i like to do both lol. But Thank you for the reply!
Not sure if it’s appropriate to ask here, but I constantly hear people getting good deals on these gears. Other than thanksgiving and Rogue’s occasional/random sale, is there any coupon related to this channel there?
There is not, sorry!
@@BasementBrandon Ah, OK. But thanks all the same there! You've got a lot of videos that are extremely helpful when planning the build. It already helped save a ton!❤
I am interested in the J-cups, but have a concern about hitting the J-cup on the way up bench press with metal on metal. Is my concern real? I watched your review, but this issue was not addressed. Is this a concern that the bottom does not have UHMW or maybe I missed your mention of this?
Not really a concern unless you regularly hit normal j cups as well (I don't).
@@BasementBrandon I bought the add on from aperture engineering : $25.00. Your 2.0 review convinced me..it is a useful invention.
Here is a reply that others may find helpful:
Arthur,
Right now we do not make those pieces. There is a third party company that
makes them called aperture engineering. They sell for $25

@@imluzhin Ahhh right on!
Would anyone know if they’re compatible woth the rogue monster lite series?
Yes, the also offer 5/8 or 3/4 pin.
The 5/8 pin size is compatible with monster lite.
Yes they have a few options for 3x3
wow i spend 350 for my wood rack like the buff dudes have added some spare abs pipes to the bar holder done
Different strokes for different folks!
This j cup is super snug on my rogue monster lite HR2. It's a pain to take off. I like the quality but not something to take off your rack to adjust for height.
Really? I don't have that issue, maybe reach out to them?
@@BasementBrandon yeh I'm not able to slide in j cups all the way too much plastic. Is your flush but with little resistance snug?
Do people use ATX Racks?
In Europe. Not available in the US
Brandon Campbell Diamond Thanks for the reaction, I live in Europe and was wondering if they are a good company since i am looking to buy a garage gym this summer
UHMW count = 14
lol
What is uhmw?
@@DELL0015 "UHMW (ultra high molecular weight polyethylene) is an extremely tough plastic with high abrasion and wear resistance"
Better sticker? I'm in
SOLD!
I’m a bit torn on things like this and deadlift jacks. I get the functionality, but we are lifting heavy weights because we want to and this seems to be extremely prima-donna and unnecessary. I also want them for when I’m squatting. I have no idea.
I went this route myself b/c i noticed when racking my bar wasn't always center and it was a pain in the ass to recenter it. If you don't have this issue I see these as largely unnecessary.
Nice item for gym equipment collector and connoisseur, but competing athletes will just get the most basic one , and will do the job just fine. I don't think Brian Shaw or Halfthor will worry about their J-cup scratching his barbell, or peeled sticker. In fact scratches and patina add some character to it.
I think you'll find the opposite, most competiting people or athletes will get these, and your average person will stick to the cheap stuff.
These are high quality J-cups but I don’t pthink the price is justifiable. I looked into getting this for my Kabuki Duffalo bar. You have to buy the regular roller J-cups for $315 and spend an additional $125 for the Duffalo UHMW insert. After shipping it’s almost 5 bills. Come on....
Yeah the pricing isn't ideal. I'd have liked to see the Duffalo inserts be more of a cover to go over the roller as I imagine it's a pain to switch back and forth.
Brandon Campbell Diamond Yes, that’s the other issue. Nobody is going to be swapping out inserts with allen keys.....Nobody. It’s boutique equipment at its finest.
Dude they should give you a coupon code out to give your subs for deals. I bet you have helped them with your free advertising
Ah didn't even think to ask.
Ha you said duty
:)
Super pretty but 300-400 price point is too steep, especially with the current economic situation. I’m all for supporting businesses but this doesn’t make sense for a lot of garage gym owners
I won't argue. I think it's a niche offering within an already niche attachment. But that being said, it's the nicest one on the market.
Brandon Campbell Diamond I’m still gonna save for them!! 😂
Why did a premium brand like Ghost make such obvious and silly mistakes with version1? Seems like they weren’t tested properly at all
I think with a Gen 1 version of anything you don't know what you don't know. This was also their first product ever so likely didn't have as robust testing in place.
Waste of metal to have the front face extend so far above the pin. Probably doesn’t matter unless you’re using them to bench and need the space, on the upright, above but it was obviously an issue with gen 1.
I don't think I understand, front face is the same length on both?
@@BasementBrandon I was refering to the location of the pin. I think it is too low on the original. Give the length of the front plate (vertical portion) it could have been higher. In any case, I am often adjusting my bar and will invest in these eventaully. Thanks for the review(s)!
@@surlynguyen agreed there, with it centered it makes it more likely for the cups to rotate!
you lost me at heavily loaded barbell
aw
I apologize, but I’m legally obligated to say it. First.
lol
I just bought the cheapest possible option of these and can’t wait for them. I really wanted a return roller and unfortunately these are still the only clear choice. I say unfortunately because the price of these is absolutely retarded. No other way to put it. I really wanted to get a custom colour but the price was absolutely fucked. On top of that, the shipping is 100 dollars. There is no better out there right now, but come on… I just payed $570 CAD for J-Cups 😂
Yeah at least Ghost makes no claim to being affordable lol.
