Who’s here 2020!! Reading Jessica’s book brought me back!! I was 15 when the show started now I’m 32 wild to see them so young !
Same here! I was 16 when the show aired, and I'm 33 now. Watching this now, it all makes sense. I feel for both of them.

In a marriage there cannot be "his" and "her" money. Legally and technically, income in a marriage is shared. Statistically, money fights and money ordeals tend to be at the root of many divorces. In a healthy marriage, there must be transparency and shared financial goals. Any other arrangement is a recipe for disaster. I'm sure there are anecdotes of some couples keeping everything separate financially and it working for them, but for the many, that is a dysfunctional arrangement.

Understand, the court system does not acquiesce to selfishness. Legally, all money earned in a marriage is shared. It is far healthier to be on the same page financially. A big spender and a financially conservative partner will likely have significant disagreements regardless of whose money you'd like to claim it is. Is there not a shared future in marriage? Children or potential children whose future and education could be better served with that money? He had every right to his say on how money should be spent in their shared household. There was no guarantee of continued future success. Entertainment is a fickle industry. Millionaire status is not always permanent. Stars can indeed go broke. Recognizing the need for and encouraging austerity is not problematic. This is called maturity.
It is about being an adult. She couldn't even do laundry, she left her crap EVERYWHERE and spent $2,000 on sheets. They were MARRIED. It was not about her spending "her" money. It was THEIR money and THEIR life. A grown, responsible man wants a partner with a level head - not a materialistic child who has no concept of how the real world operates.
Oh my, hearing "With You" brings me right back! I remember watching their show back in the day and although I was 14 I thought she looked and sounded really dumb... But she's always been a super sweet person.

Nick was toxic as hell. When I was young, I didn’t have the words for the way he spoke to her and how he had to constantly patronize her / take jabs at her...and now that I’m older I realize he was condescending (verbally abusive) and always making comments at her expense because he was insecure as hell, less famous, and dependent on her financially. But tried to control everything, right down to guilting her for needing a cleaning service and help.
I wish young women knew that this is not love.
Yeah when you read her book it all makes more sense. She said she was on the road a lot and she just wanted extra help which would have made things better but he looked down on ppl who paid for that as being "lazy". But I bet it would have saved a lot of arguments from happening if he argreed to it.
I used to watch this show when I was younger. I'm 32 now. And as an adult re-watching these episodes, I see how sweet and down-to-earth Jessica was. I used to really love her music, too. She is really beautiful on the inside and out. Seems like someone I would love to call my friend.
I am reading her book it’s amazing how she can talk about her life love her show back than with nick but ready everything about what she went through with I think it was best to go there separate ways I wish the best for both

She got married young and was changing, still discovering herself. Nick is 8 years older than her. Have you read her book or listened to the audio version? There is so much more to the story. But I love how she says that she will always hold a special place in her heart for Nick because he taught her how to love...which is super sweet.
