Did that crossing regularly 4 times a day for 10 years weather permitting 70s and 80s Land scape practically the same my favourite is Queen Charlotte Sound
KiwiRail run ferries because they needed a rail ferry to carry trains between the two islands. Then they started carrying trucks and cars and found they could make more money from them. Today KiwiRail has only 1 train ferry left. 6 February is a public holiday in NZ, hence why the Platform 9 3/4 dry cleaners was closed and probably why the ferry was so full. As a kid my family would often take this ferry to go on holiday. My parents almost always buy club lounge access these days because it is less crowded, quieter abd the fiid and drinks are good. ❤ the video.
Beautiful day to cross between our Islands, welcome to the South Island, my little slice of paradise. Have a fab time making memories. As an aside, the wording on your pie-packet No.8. is a Kiwi phrase dear to our hearts, means if anything breaks down and needs a temporary fix until next pay-day or saving up, just use the No.8.Wire. "she'll be right, it'll do", endless possibilities. Began back in the day from our commonsense, no nonsense Farmers. Xx
Kuga, we live in Wellington and my wife works for Great Journeys Trains at the Railway station, she is from Oita in Japan. She probably saw you. We often take this ferry trip. Unfortunately, thr sheep are off to the abbatoir to be made into lamb shanks.
I took the ferry from Wellington to Picton once. Ended up feeling sea sick but also saw some dolphins. It's weird seeing things I actually recognize in one of these videos.
In Tasmania which is just across the Tasman Sea from New Zealand we are getting our new ferries linking us to the rest of Australia, so you might like to catch the Spirit of Tasmania before the new ships arrive .
Kiwi rail is government owned, and the crossing is treated as being part of the state highway network (I believe the Kiwirail ferries are counted as being part of state highway 1, the highway that starts at Cape Reinga in the north and goes through to Bluff in the south).
No, the Cook Strait is one of the WINDIEST crossings not one of the most dangerous. But it is only about an hour and a half when you are exposed to the open sea. Many passengers get seasick when the seas are rough but that is because they are not used to the motion of the ship. So the reputation of the Strait is (in my view) undeserved. Any competent sailor can manage it very safely. Just watch the weather and use a bit of common sense. I have sailed in lots of seas that have been more threatening. Try the North Atlantic or the North Sea in a storm. Not just 90 minutes there - more like three days for the Atlantic and one day for the North sea. Sorts the men from the boys. Great video Kuga.
Thank you very much for taking us along with you Kuga, that really was some amazing scenery. That food, I have had that dish many times and I felt like I could smell that curry and seeing it in your video had me drooling, I think I will be ordering take out food tonight.
I did the same ferry ride (with car) earlier this year. I was very pleased with the views. Only difference really, was I had a load of cattle, not sheep.
Thank you for an enjoyable video. In the past I have done that trip many times. Very rarely I have enjoyed them. Have a good day from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺
2:09 Just another thing Australia might steal legitimately. I'm only saying this out of a place of love for our trans tasman family. Kuga, keep up the excellent work mate.
Always interesting seeing your home country through another's eyes. Yeah, it's a shame our ferries are having problems and the current government canned a contract that would've seen Kiwirail/Interislander get new ones. Ah well.
That microphone noise will be the wind. For which we are famous. Or maybe infamous.😁 Edit: the food is good? Things have changed a lot since I was on there.
If you do get to Dunedin, say hi for me (been there for my degree) and get some nice local Speight beer! Also, yes, Sheep has us outnumbered 2 to 1...and if they choose to...
I get the idea that Kuga really doesn't like talking and interacting with people. I have watched many ferry videos from Kuga and others who were travelling long distances in Japan and Europe. In those videos the dining rooms, corridors and public areas rarely have a few people visible. I am personally used to taking ferries on the west coast of Canada. The ferries to Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands operate like public buses. They are often crowded with reservations recommended for travel anytime close to a weekend or public holiday. With few trips over two hours in length, the first action of most passengers is to rush to the cafeteria to grab a meal. A big lineup ensues but generally everyone has time to eat. $86 NZ for three-hour lounge pass seems outrageous to me but then I enjoy watching people travelling in crowds.

There is some stunning ferry journeys in the world, and this is pretty good also .

Love your channel and your adventures. As a New Zealand citizen welcome to NZ my sincere apologies for the ferry.🙂
Yes sorry about the condition of our ferries.
Thats how I felt when Kuga came to Aus and sampled our trains. Rickety old piles of junk compared to the mighty Shinkansen. It was embarrassing.
Wow the water looks so clear!
I always have enjoyed the Cool Straight crossing. Such a very nice way to travel. Please come again to our lovely country sir ❤
Thank you..Очень лаконично и интересно.Проехались с Вами по Америке,подписались и продолжаем путешествовать .Спасибо.
Kuga’s Travel ….I’ll have to go to New Zealand it’s a beautiful place ,thanks for the video .😊
Nice vid but NZs best ferry. Debatable, lol. Try this. Fly to Great barrier Island and catch the Evening ferry back to Auckland.
What a beautiful country!
I've been on that a few times. Never been on the 'vomit comet' though lol. I like the slower. more relaxed ferry.
Thank you for sharing the world with me. Your videos are always beautiful. ❤

You had a great day for the crossing. It's a beautiful place, and a delightful journey, but often windy, haha. Enjoy your trip Kuga san
Beautiful. Thank you.
Hope you coming back for a visit this coming summer 😁
oh you're doing my dream NZ train trip! How fun!

Great trip. Correct me if I wrong, the Cook Strait known as one of the most dangerous waters in the world.
Yes, the roaring forties wind blows directly into the channel making crossings dangerous. There are also deep channels.

Hello dear friend !!!

Kuga it's been awhile. I love the way you said look at the water😅 well that was most of the scenary!
That microphone noise will be the wind. For which we are famous. Or maybe infamous.😁 Edit: the food is good? Things have changed a lot since I was on there.
Riding New Zealand's Most Beautiful Ferry. No 'the' needed or required.
2:00 Harry Potter and the...dry cleaners?
I LoL at that part
Yes it's a dry cleaners. It was closed when Kuga went through as 6 February is a public holiday.
That steak pie looked delicious!
Kaiarahi is the worst of the fleet. More set up for freight. Next time you're here, try Blue Bridge. Nicer ships and better food
Declan Villages
If you do get to Dunedin, say hi for me (been there for my degree) and get some nice local Speight beer!
Also, yes, Sheep has us outnumbered 2 to 1...and if they choose to...
Wow, Kuga must be wealthy to afford all of this.
