I am a Maori from that area. I have noticed some Maori words in Korean and Japanese languages. It's just that they have different meanings. We also roll the R when we talk as well. Our nouns are also pronounced the same way. Thankyou for showing a bit of my country to the world. I no longer live there as I have lived in Australia for the last 20 years. So it was good to see that area again.😃
Hi kuga thanks for another awesome trip wish I was there fell Thursday night and broke my arm in pain but enjoying your videos love from Rockingham NC USA ❤❤❤❤
Oh! What pain! I can feel your situation as I'm totally bed-bound due to fracture-cum-severe sprain in my left ankle. And enjoying Kuga's 'no noise, no nonsense' videos.
Great video and spectacular train ride, made all the more special by the opening shot. My partner lived in the Victoria Mansions, shown in your opening scene ‘95-97. Beautiful art deco building and wonderful city, Christchurch!. Well done Kuga!
Christchurch local here... randomly popped up in my feed. I have to say... had no idea of the utterly ridiculous cost of this trip! When I was a kid... this was a cheap passenger service... it seems to exclusively be a tourist trip now reeling in crazy money from overseas visitors! Given that the route of the train, for the most part, follows the highway... I can't help but wonder if visitors are better off hiring a car to see the same scenery and also stop along the way... for a fraction of the cost. That rant aside.... great video and I'm glad to have stumbled across it!
About the linguistic connection... Lapita people. Lapita people and culture originates in South East China, spreading through island South East Asia and then the Pacific through to Polynesia. There is a possible link between these people and the early Jomon people of Japan.
I've often wondered about the similarity between the Japanese "Hime", and Maori "Wahine". It definitely feels like there could be a distant linguistic link. Like how English and Sanskrit are distantly related, descended from Proto-Indo-European.
Thank you so much for showing all of these train travel trips videos. I hope that I will be able to save enough money so I can do a couple of them in the United States and Canada when I eventually retire. Your videos are so relaxing.
Hello Kuga san, we were in Christchurch at the same time. I caught the pacific explorer from chch to Blenheim, just before Picton. I stayed at “hotel give” across from the gardens for a week. Those headphones confused me lol but I figured them out eventually. 😁
A side track but I love your deep dive insight about Japan. I was so close to visiting it at one point. Had experience with acting and in 2015 I was in contact with Capcom about the role of Leon for the Resident Evil 2 Remake. I failed to mention I also have a voice acting background, in the end I lost the part and I can't forgive myself for wasting such an opportunity to visit Asia.
Such a shame that some people cannot manage a train journey without their mobile phones either on mute or, better still, switched off. No consideration for their fellow passengers.
@@heathwellsNZ Thank you. I thought they would be the same but the silly side of me thought of Vermouth (pronounced as vr-mooth) when I saw the name. Cheers.
Hello... 🙋🏻♂ GREETINGS FROM INDONESIA 😉 Maybe one day you should try EXPERIENCE WITH TRAINS IN INDONESIA There you will find NAGREG STATION Yes, the station is located at an altitude of 848 meters above sea level. インドネシアでお会いしましょう
As someone from Kazakhstan, Almaty, I must admit the NZ scenery isn't breathtaking. Come to Almaty, the beauty of our lakes and mountains will surprise you
Yo, Kuga! Been wondering about your English skills for some time. You seem to speak English well enough to give us commentary on your videos, yet I don't think I've ever heard your voice. Do you interface with English speakers when you're traveling? Just wondering.

Hello Kuga 😊 Ty for sharing a beautiful trip. New Zealand is a very beautiful country. Hope your travels always find you in good health and spirits. 🤗
Hello Kuga, thanks for one more awesome video. I wonder how many mountains in the world are called "some Alps"😂
Great video and spectacular train ride, made all the more special by the opening shot. My partner lived in the Victoria Mansions, shown in your opening scene ‘95-97. Beautiful art deco building and wonderful city, Christchurch!. Well done Kuga!
Hey Kuga san. Thanks for another great vid. That's such a fun train ride. I really enjoy the outdoor viewing carriage.
I rode this train in February of 2006. It was FABULOUS!!!
Greetings from Redondo Beach 🇺🇸🇺🇸Wonderful train ride video and very scenic 🌷🌷
Love your videos and this one no exception but I thought you might compare the scenic plus with the ordinary scenic as you did do the return trip
Thanks!
Thank you!🤝
Beautiful scenery, thanks for the trip !
i love watching your videos. I think you are very funny. When I want to relax I watch one of your videos.

I did it by bus. It was a LOT cheaper lol. I just couldn't justify the cost of the train.
Wow... I was on the train from Greymouth to Christchurch on DEC 26, 2001. 23 years have gone since then... Missing NZ a lot from Korea.
Great trip. Another NZ Rail Adventure, this time in Southern Island.
Good food beautiful scenery

This train trip is something special!
It is the pity that NZ is so far away from Europe :) ✈🛩Great video!!
Thank you so much for showing all of these train travel trips videos. I hope that I will be able to save enough money so I can do a couple of them in the United States and Canada when I eventually retire. Your videos are so relaxing.
I looked online and saw several articles saying Yes, there are some similarities between Maori language and Japanese language!
I like the background music
Very nice thank you! 🌷👍🥳
Oh Yeah!!!

14.11.2024.Really first class, very good and super..Please increase the time of each video min.1 one hour above.
Holy shit that's expensive. I live here and I had no idea it was that expensive.
Yup. Directly and squarely aimed at ripping off tourists
Kuga may be some kind of miracle worker - he went to Greymouth and when he got there, it wasn't raining!
Very nice. Thank you.
Thank you Kuga. Beautiful NZ! Beautifully shot, too! How long were you in the tunnel?
The engine must be from the 1970s!
That food looks so yummy
next travel with croatian railways from Rijeka to Zagreb and Zagreb to Split!
Mmmmm, shellfish and dog 😋
oh I fancy doing this
Love your videos. Please, what camera do you use?
👏👏👏
Ah, no comparison between the 'Plus' experience and the regular Scenic on the way back?
전망차에는 유리가 없나요? 비나 눈이오면 들이칠텐데~여름엔 유리창을 빼고?
5:30 the Maori people come from Taiwan, so maybe?
Such a shame that some people cannot manage a train journey without their mobile phones either on mute or, better still, switched off. No consideration for their fellow passengers.
or some guy running around with a video camera.

👍👍👍💟💟💟💟💟
So how do Kiwi folks (and others) pronounce Greymouth?
Kiwi here. Grey or gray (like the colour) and mouth like the body part... the town is situated at the mouth of the Grey River... hence the name.
@@heathwellsNZ Thank you. I thought they would be the same but the silly side of me thought of Vermouth (pronounced as vr-mooth) when I saw the name. Cheers.
Look at historical native people of Taiwan and their migration then you'll have an answer to your question about language
But, Mr. Gandalf, sir, can't we just take the train?
Of course not, you fool of a Took. If we took the train this would be a very boring movie.
