I just wanted to say, as a kid I had a learning disability which I've discovered doesn't ever leave even as an adult. It's a matter of adjusting and thinking outside of the box . You've mentioned your same plight growing up with a learning disability. What you've done to overcome your challenges is so cool to watch. Your success is inspiring for people like me.

Commercial flower farmer here, just a tip, leave at least an inch or 2 of space in your soil block tray so you can flood that area with water. Then tip tray to water the blocks. Soil blocks need to be bottom watered to stay together and to avoid algae as much as possible.

Low and behold it was a tiny toad! No kidding! I tucked the little guy in with one of my potted plants. I figured he would like that better than the potting soil, despite it's Happy Frog name.

She Immigrated from Sicily as a young girl and met my grandfather on the boat that she came over to America on. It is much like a fig Newton. But instead of a cakey like texture on the outside it has more of a cookie like texture.I love them and try to make them every year. My Mom was a good hobby flower girl. One of the beds was a mix of black eyed Susan's, purple/pink cone flower and Shasta daisy's. Not to much of the white Shasta, your just wanting to breakup the color field, the white gives your eyes a place to "rest". It brightens and adds vibrancy to the color in the bed. It was a show stopper every year with lots of people stopping bye. Batchelor buttons and asters are some of my favorites every year, but they are annuals and need to be reseeded each year. When working 12-15 hour days in the garden is not enough. When they finally connected several large sections of the rails to trails we were out at 1 of the trail head parking lots planting just a few Batchelor button seeds under cover of darkness. When they came up they were so beautiful and was featured in the paper. Some ladies groups had garden tours for their groups fundraiser. You should go if you can find any near you. You can learn allot from these other gardeners and so inspiring.

I’m not sure the time frame between going from garden to kitchen, but one thing you want to be aware of is your kitchen items and food bringing fungi and contamination to your plants through your apron and clothes. The only reason I know this is because years ago I worked at a gardening plant starter company that grew starts from votings from other plants and we had to be very careful not to bring cheese and other items into the greenhouse germination area. You may want to change your apron or have one just for gardening, just a suggestion. Hugs from Texas!

There are such sweet people in this community.
The soil blocks are beautiful. They look like brownies. I'm glad everything is germinating well.
I decided to direct sow only this year. Risky, I know. Then, sadly, we just had a late frost here in Alabama. Everything seemed to fair okay except for one variety of tomato seedlings. We will see what happens over the next few days. Oh, well.
P s I vote for turning the seed room back into a laundry room/utility room. It will open up the other room for a bedroom. After the greenhouse comes, that is. And it is coming. It's coming for me, too.Which is when I will probably start seeds indoors.

I’m adding my encouragement for you to use paving paint (with added grit to prevent slipping) on the floor in your grow room. We have recently used it on semi-enclosed concrete area about the size of single garage after 20+ years of it just being concrete. The difference is amazing! I’d say it would suit the current use of this room involving lots of dirt and water, and if you change its use in the future you can still lay flooring on top of it. I’m in Australia so I’m not sure if you call it paving paint in the US. It’s a specific product for concrete and similar surfaces, usually outdoors or in a room similar to yours. It’s already non-slip and adding the special grit makes it more so. A bonus is none of the dust that comes up off the concrete.

Becky, in so excited about the green stocks. I just had my 40th birthday and asked for one. Out of surprised, I was gifted two of the basket weaved ones. I can’t wait for them to arrive. Because of you I have become more in all of gardening, preserving, and trying new recipes. As a kid we did a lot of canning and it is bringing back so many good memories. Since I started watching your show, I have now invested in a freeze dryer, digital canner, and now two green stocks. I have also improved my gardening area by putting in a few raised beds. I cannot wait to see what this year brings. I’m a little scared though this is the first year I have started my own seedlings. Pray that they turn out well, I am taking your advice and I bought the Vermont compost you use in hopes I will get the same results.

Thank you, Becky and GreenStalk. I ordered my 2nd Greenstalk today. This one is going in the front of my house for easy harvesting when cooking. I will have to wheel it in the garage for the evening so not to feed the deer overnight (they don' t share the goods..they eat them all! ) :) Have a blessed day!

You know something Becky? I truly enjoy your videos, but 90% of what goes through my mind every other day when I watch you is: Your mom and dad. What an amazing job they have done, it's almost as if I could see them molding you, like the Creator molded Adam...
We, as parents pour so much (for good and for bad) of ourselves into the human beings we are raising! I salute and congratulate your mom and dad (and their village) for the job they have done! Please, if you read me, let them know there are thousands of people thanking them for the amazing human being they raised. Thank you. May God bless you all!!! ❤

I had a 💡moment when you said you'd do your office work then reward yourself with transplanting alll those seedlings. For me, it would be the other way around! 😂
I've always admired people with extensive gardens and watched TV gardening programs, read gardening books, and now watched YT videos. I thought I'd like to try it, but it never happened. And now I know why - it's not my passion! By a long shot!
So now I can watch guilt-free and simply enjoy watching those who create in this way and grow beautiful food. Thanks for that! I can't believe I'd fooled myself all those years! 😂

In your area you could plant your seeds and put them outside to cold stratify them. Just let them come up outside. Some people do that in milk jugs. You just have to make sure the seeds don’t dry out.

Good morning, Becky. Such a lovely video. My comment is speaking to cold stratifying your seeds. If you watch the Garden Answer channel, Laura has done something called winter sowing for the past couple of years. Very simple, sowing seeds in recycled milk/water jugs and leaving them outside and unattended for the winter months. She's had varied results but for the effort expended worth the time. Good luck on your planting.

Becky, a suggestion....in your grow room: leave the concrete floor but have them stain it. It looks great and you can even get the to stamp it with a wood plank design (there are several patterns to stamp into your concrete, but I don't know if it can be done with a concrete floor but it would be worth asking. That way you wouldn't gave to worry about a water leak or getting your floor wet. And dirt could be swept up easily. Love the green stalks. Love that they wanted to sponsor the video! That's great!

I read an article that said Dalias do not like root disturbances so that when you plant seedlings you should plant them in a compostable pot that you can just take and plant directly into the garden. That's what I did with mine if you've had success doing it this way I'd really be interested to know that. Also my husband who is a retired contractor although he did not see the crack in your foundation he did say that there is an industrial epoxy that you can inject into the crack of the foundation that will expand to fill it and that could get you like 10 more years.

Have you considered resurfacing the floor, like they do patios & driveway? The crack, probably will not ever be great, because of the way structures move & shift over time. But they might be able to fill crack with expansion type material.

I am happy to see a sponsorship on your video. Congratulations Becky. I think finding alternative gardening solutions is so important. I just have a balcony so I feel very limited as to what I can grow. Watching your channel has inspired me to waste less food and extend the storage of food without losing it's quality. I have frozen fresh lemon juice, fresh whole ginger and garlic cloves in my freezer right now. I buy fresh herbs and then dry them myself. I store the dried herbs in a glass jar and it keeps it's freshness for a long time. Your channel is one of my favorites. All of your seedlings look so cute. Are you growing asparagus this year?

🇦🇺Hi Becky, for your hose you need a retractable hose reel. You can tug it one way to keep it out at a length you need then tug the hose in the opposite way for it to retract and sit nice and neat against the wall.
