Like even in episode 7 the story was really telling it's yarn and good and suddenly Marco appears a good while in and you think "Oh yeah, you're here too". Then again I think Marco himself is good for the role he is, he's an observer also kinda in the game if that makes sense.
This is the best show in decades. Canceled after 2 seasons, very sad. I did read the book, and history records. So I know the ending,...so to speak. Terrible decision not to have seen this through to the end.
Kublai in the show is exactly how I imagine the real khan would have been. A larger than life personality and extremely charismatic and intimidating person to be around. I absolutely love this show, it's sad that they cancelled it, I would love for them to continue even if that means with a smaller budget because this show was much more than just huge battles and the cast was perfect too.

The end of 2014 saw the show Marco Polo air on the streaming service and _*_it has now been announced that the show has been renewed for a second season_*_._ _The second season will run for 10 episodes and will go into production later this year. Marco Polo is produced by The Weinstein Company and Electus and stars Lorenzo Richelmy as Marco Polo alongside a cast that also includes Benedict Wong, Joan Chen, Zhu Zhu, Chin Han, Olivia Cheng, Tom Wu, Remy Hii, Uli Latukefu, Mahesh Jadu, Claudia Kim and Rick Yune._ So glad to see it will still focus on Mongolia and China. I figured part of the way the show was pitched to executives was the idea that they could follow Marco Polo throughout his life which obviously involved travels all over the world giving the writers the flexibility to change the setting, but for now I don't want them to leave Asia any time soon. I had heard some rumblings that the plot may have pointed towards moving towards Constantinople and away from Asia but for the time being that doesn't seem to be the case. Ironically enough I'm kind of scared to learn about the real Marco Polo for fear of spoilers.

Something they want to embedd into your minds. Pretty interesting. Something that never existed in history but an interesting movie.
It's sad but it's almost never done because it wouldn't sell as well. White men can't stand to see their women with minorities and yellow fever is still going pretty strong. Media's been pushing asian males as betas for years now. I personally refuse to watch this bedwench training video.

What's very interesting is that I feel that Lorenzo Richelmy who played Marco Polo in the Netflix version of Marco Polo, looks very similar to Ken Marshall way back when Ken Marshall played Marco Polo in the early 80's version of Marco Polo on NBC.
I know I'm late here, but I recently found the show and was wondering the same thing. A lot of the reviews I checked out seemed to harp on pretty silly criticisms of "political correctness" like not enough strong female characters. I considered Marco as a "good guy" at first. Then late in the season after what he did to Kokachin I reconsidered. I'm glad that it happened though. It makes him seem more dynamic, and relate able, he's not perfect, he really is just a guy. explains a lot of his other actions. He wants to be there, he really wants to serve the Khan and he will make big sacrifices to do that.
They may have not been Mongolian, but they played the characters psychosis of that era very well. Of course they should of just at CGI everyone's face to make them look like a Mongol.

It's so weird. Mongolian empire didn't use Any CHinese Characters or Kaji's .. We have our own Mongolian Galligraphy . This movie is non historical. Seems they confused and mixed two different nations in the Movie. It's just show and most of them was so different in the HISTORY..
some mongol khans adopted the chinese culture of the people they conquered. theyre not using their own mongolian script, but are instead showing how kublai embraces chinese culture and assimilates it into his rule.
It was sort of like how Rome adopted the religion of Greece. Some Khans embraced the ideas of those they ruled. Also, when ruling a piece of land that size, you must be tolerant and "in touch" with those who are ruled.
Actually in the whole series Mongols did not use any chinese characters. They made quite a big distinction between mogols and chinese. In the series they even made tensions between Kublai and his son regarding the conflict of Mongol identity and Chinese influence identity. The only Chinese characters shown was at the training ground of Hundred Eyes (Bayan). In history Bayan was a mongol general but in this series the producer took an artistic liberty and made him into a Chinese taoist monk from Wudang Mountain who served under the Khan. It's very common for taoist monk to have kanji calligraphy display all over their training grounds. I suggest you watch the whole series first before judging this great series.

I was surprised to learn Lorenzo Richelmy was actually a full on Italian actor. When I saw the first scene where he described the desert I thought he was an American or British speaking with a slight Italian accent because well, Marco Polo was obviously Italian. The accent comes out a little more when he does interviews in English but if I hadn't read it myself I never would have guessed that he was Italian (as in actually from Italy).

historically Mongols were the invaders, Chinese were fighting for survival (lose in the end), if defines by today's standard, Mongols must be the bad guys. And Xiangyang was not took by Macro Polo's giant war machine, the city surrendered itself when food runs out after a 6 year long siege. However the TV series is good enough, all the characters really exist in history, the costumes are also exactly what Chinese wear in 13th century. It would be way boring for a TV series to strictly follow historical facts.
Stop being lazy and learn some English and acting! We're giving away our roles to the Chinese who don't deserve it. They are now using the show to prove to people how warrior-like the Chinese were, which is complete bullshit.

This is the first serie i watch.. and i quess the only one..
I was surprised to learn Lorenzo Richelmy was actually a full on Italian actor. When I saw the first scene where he described the desert I thought he was an American or British speaking with a slight Italian accent because well, Marco Polo was obviously Italian. The accent comes out a little more when he does interviews in English but if I hadn't read it myself I never would have guessed that he was Italian (as in actually from Italy).

And god dam my warhammer40k fanboy was screaming the guy playing Kublai Khan, dam if ever there was going to be a horus heresy movie he should play the White Scars Primarch as they are based on them anyway lol likemost of warhammer40k universe.

There has only been ONE 40k movie and it was ass. Ultramarine shud not have happend. Now The Lord Inquisitor movie looks amazing and GW is not going to sue the team and its FREE....when it does finally come out.

Everyone in that show falls in love with Marco Polo! The whole cast is trying to get inside Marco but the dude better be careful, especially around Ahmad...he's a weirdo and I wouldn't put surprise butt secks past him!

historically Mongols were the invaders, Chinese were fighting for survival (lose in the end), if defines by today's standard, Mongols must be the bad guys. And Xiangyang was not took by Macro Polo's giant war machine, the city surrendered itself when food runs out after a 6 year long siege. However the TV series is good enough, all the characters really exist in history, the costumes are also exactly what Chinese wear in 13th century. It would be way boring for a TV series to strictly follow historical facts.
