Michael, been meaning to tell you this for a while,.. but you are absolutely, flat out, hands down, the best golf club reviewer on youtube. Clear and to the point, with good multiple angle video shots of what the clubs looks like.. all super good info.. I saw where they introduced the D9 irons, and was looking for specs like bounce, and offset (don't like a large amount of offset in irons) - and I couldn't find the specs anywhere. I just got fitted. The distance is huge. Even at 27 degrees I’m hitting 180 metres 201 yards. My old 6 iron was 29 and max distance was 160 metres. They are long. But I’m holding greens as well. Coupled with a 52, 56 and 60 degree CBX2 wedges. I m playing at 14 handicap down from 20. Only took 4 games. Phenomenal combination. Just do it.

Great review Mike. After you get through all the new club releases I think it's time to put up 3 or 4 different clubs hitting into the same green but with different styles of club. EG. 180 yds with a 9 iron from this set, an 8 iron from more of a players set and 7 iron from a more bladed or muscleback club. Would be a fascinating comparison!

I don't see the problem with cranked lofts.
Std set is 5-GW but equivalent to 4-PW with others. It's just a number on the bottom.
High flight and high decent angle will be of great benefit... until the wind blows 😁

I tried on the same session: Cobra Radspeed, Taylormade Sim 2 Max, Cleveland Launcher XL and Halo XL, Callaway Mavrik, Mizuno JPX 921 Hot Metal and the D9s. By far, the Wilson's gave me the most confidence, distance and dispersion. The result is the following. On 2 games in the indoor simulator (canadian winter), I did cut at least 15 shots to my score. Nice high end graphite Ventus 60g shafts, Lamkin grips... everything you need from good clubs. The best golf purchase I made so far... for that price???

Shafts other than the ultralite max looked at the specs and the shafts also seem to be .5 in longer than standard did you notice they were longer than your old set ? (Ping) just on ping- it was between d9 and g425 I was looking at.
      2. Did you keep the standard grip over midsize I was talking to a man on the range and he had the d9s and I just had to talk to him lol he had midsize grips and said they were the way to go but I know personal preference and all but they felt nice.
      3. The biggest ick I have lol the lofts looking at a 7i with the 6i loft does go distance wise a normal 6i do the lower lofts make ball striking harder ? It's just the lower lofts and connecting with the ball off the turf is what I'm stuck on

      @christaylor4904 2 года назад

@@conalsands4748 I was slightly worried about contact with lower lofts but don’t notice a thing , the feel off the face is fantastic which gives me confidence.
I didn’t get any mods or adjustments but did have mid size grips on my previous pings and so eventually might get mid size grips fitted probably for next year.
Didn’t notice too much difference with the shafts but just think the ultralight compliment the heads perfectly.

Great review as always thanks Michael! Up to recently I have never paid much attention to Wilson irons but having read reviews on the D7 and D7 forged and now seeing the positive comments on the D9's that is def changing. My handicap has hovered around 9-11 over the past few years using Ping iSeries and I had wanted to change this year to something more forgiving as my ball striking is very up and down (pardon the pun). I had decided to focus on the Ping G425 or G710 but someone mentioned to me to check out the D9's.
I do wonder if these would be better for my handicap level or whether the D7 forged should be considered also?
As for lofts absolutely no issue there, people seem to miss the point around the rest of the numbers i.e. they are not just calling a 5 iron a 7 iron, they are managing to get very high ball flights from these lofts so actually if you can hit a 7 iron the same distance as your old 5 iron but flight it much higher that's got to be good news :-)

Michael... this isn't a 7 iron. It's a 6 iron. The club isn't giving you extra distance. It's simply the loft. Some club company will eventually decide to loft their 7 iron at 25 degrees and claim (accurately so) that their clubs hit even longer. I think you should have done a comparison with the D9 8 iron as it has the loft of most all 7 irons.

I'd much rather stand on a par 3 and hit a "9" iron versus a "7" iron as it's a psycological boost irreleveant of the fact that your 7 iron might have the same loft as my nine iron.

Let's be honest, it's a 5 iron with a slightly shorter shaft. Spinloft doesn't lie.

Excactly, so your saying it’s easier to hit a mp20 5 iron than one of these for a golfer say14/28 handicap which they are aimed at

Just don’t see the problem if they help golfers, only people who moan are single figure players

@@richardtyerman919 yes they will be easier to hit. The perimiter weighting and tungsten inserts, and the thin faces will make miss hits far easier to manage and produce better results. That is not the issue though. With a modern set with these kinds of lofts you'll end up with 5 irons and 5 wedges in the bag. It's all marketing hype I'm afraid. BTW I'm a struggling 12 handicapper who's built like a prop forward, but hit it pathetically. I'm trying to use lockdown to totally rebuild my swing.

    27°? 7 iron? That's a 5 iron.
    My 7 iron is 34°.
What are you going to carry, 5 wedges?

All of this “power” iron stuff is just marketing hype! A 7 iron that is 27deg of loft is a five iron! Instead of spending money on a new set of irons just use the club in your bag not your ego!
