Imagine telling someone in 2012 the specs of this camera, how good IBIS will be and then hit them with the fact that it’ll be under $2K. Mindblowing. Great review
Cmon now, honestly speaking this camera is over priced for what it offers compared to its competition
@@Das644 what competition is that? Not saying there aren’t better cameras out there but I think it’s actually pretty competitive for the price.
@@jordans.6769 I get you. I'm just glad Canon finally worked on an amazing, all rounder
@@Das644 so then u decline the challenge
@@jordans.6769 the closest thing I can think of is Sony’s A6600 - but that’s limited to 8bit 4k30 with a crop on an APSC sensor. MAYBE the LUMIX S5 if we want to count full frame? But the AF, codecs, and lens selection really pull the R7 ahead of the competition in its price range.
My thoughts…I love it when Parker makes the video… always straight to the point no BS I’m sick of RUclipsrs beating around the bush
im saving up for this camera, after shooting weddings with a EOS M2 and a M50, it's finally time to step up and this camera came perfect
Totally Agree! The R7 has been an awesome B cam to my R6.
Grateful for you Parker! Thank you for another immersing review video.
Just watched it again 🤓
Thank you Parker! Very tempted!
First of all thank you for making this video about the R7. I was waiting for a video from content creators like yours. This really helped me to learn everything about the R7 for photo and video purposes.
You said this is a perfect 2nd camera upgrading from a beginner camera. Now what is your beginner camera? Planning to look into the beginner camera so that I can switch to the R7 later on :)
Your lighting is just mind blowing!!
Btw, I am learning so much from Brady’s lighting course! thanks a lot!
This review is amazing it finally made me pull the trigger and got an R7 for myself. I’ve had it for a month now and so far it’s blowing my mind for the price i paid for it!
Love it! Had no idea the R7 did 4k @ 60FPS and LOG recording
Parker, great video as always.
Just want to mention the photo/video switching in R5. It's complicated, but you can assign this option to buttons, so I set up the M-Fn button to be responsible for that and I can switch between the modes within less than a second with just one touch of a button, which is right next to a trigger.
same here!
Thank you for this, I just put an order for my R7 and this video backed up my decision.
Great review...been waiting for a review of this camera for the video side...thanks!
I appreciate the review. Currently using the 90D and wanting to get the R7. I just keep hearing so many negative things about it. And with Canon not letting 3rd party RF lenses and the lack of RF-S lenses just feels like its being held back. I could be wrong.
I've had a lot of great memories on this trail! Used to live in that neighborhood!
Amazing review buddy, that intro was beautiful
Liking the subtle lighting in the background :D
Thank you for the great information and that it is a great pick to go up from a beginner camera
Soooo excited for this video and it didn't disappoint at all! I was going to buy an R5C & RF lenses (after saving up) but I think I'm going to get this guy for the real estate, interviews, and corporate stuff I do and buy better lenses with the adapter, then buy the R5C later (or a new one that may come out).
real estate is typically when you need the full frame (wide angle) the most. but this is a great little camera for sure.
@@nicjustice Yeah I agree. That’s my only downside which is preventing me from getting.. because of the frame for real estate.
New member of full time filmmaker course babyyyyyyyyy
Terrific review Parker!
like because you started the video with some cool footage. thanks that's what I am always looking for
Nice Video Mr. Parker.
You're my inspiration, Good job!
Been looking for a great b cam and this looks like it might be a winner!! Great review! Thanks Parker! 👊🏼
I'm just glad that mirrorless cameras have grips again. That annoyed me so much with the m50, that thing was a nightmare to hold.
But I tried out some r series cameras at a product demo any my favorite was the r7.
When I buy my next camera, it's gonna be the r7.
Currently I use a 800d (t7i) so that dedicated video switch is a must for me.
Awesome video thanks for sharing 🙌🏼
I still remember when the SL2/200D and the M50 were the FTF recommended best bang for buck video cameras. Amazing how fast camera tech has advanced! Will have to get a hold that R7 soon... way to go Canon (and Parker)
I still using the SL2, but waiting for the R7 to come to Brazil. It will probably be my upgrade!
My current camera is the SL2, I’m considering upgrading to this one now!
To be honest even in late 2023 the M50 is still one of the best value propositions on the planet.
I use mine for sports photo and video and it's been superb. If it had IBIS it would be perfect for me from a video standpoint, for photo it is near perfect when you consider everything.
The 32mm f1.4 is one of the best lenses Canon has ever built and the 11-22 is the best wide angle lens I've ever used
I loved my sl2. It was my first camera and my husband dropped in on New Year’s Eve and the shutter button fell off and disappeared. Cried my eyes out but now I’m searching the market for my next upgrade now that I know it’s a passion and a good side hustle. I think I’m going to get this seeing as it is compatible with my gimbal.
I've only owned GH5 cameras so the APSC sensor has been a huge upgrade in sensor size with the R7. The bokeh at F1.8 is so amazing compared to F1.8 on the M43 sensors. The amazing AF means I can finally shoot weddings on a gimbal and be confident that it's in focus. My main problem with this camera is that you can't White balance while filming.
White balancing while filming that is like only videocams and Panasonic bodies are capable of, oh and A7s3, FX30 and FX3
@@SMGJohn it should be an option on every camera
@@ramymelhem
Wont ever happen, Canon wont do things that damage the sale of their camcorders.
@@SMGJohn 😂😂
You can program a control ring to do white balance
I am amazed by the superb quality of the intro video
you are living the dream , well done!
Bro, your communication is awesome 😎 The way you talk is amazing 😍
very helpful video.. the beginning was very beautiful.. like a poem..
Nice video, thanks.
I bought the Canon R7 after watching this review. Overall, as mentioned in the video, it is the best upgrade for people like me who are looking for an upgrade from the base camera (I used the iPhone 13 and the Canon 700D). The improvement was much better, especially with the 4k50fps capability. I can now shoot horizontally in 4k and use the same footage for vertical videos like reels.
One minor complain is that despite the 2 SD card slots, the camera does not switch to the second SD card when the first SD card storage is full (maybe I have not figured it out yet). I am still trying out the features and I am definitely looking forward to getting better in videography and photography and maybe richer so I can upgrade to a full frame camera with 60fps capabilities. Overall 8/10 for the camera - portable, versatile and lightweight.
Thank you so much for the video and I hope this helps. :]
R7 does 60fps, just line skipped but still
Finally a review from a big RUclipsr. Upgrading from my 70D. Pre ordered now waiting
I got lucky and found three of these at my local camera shop 🤩
Great video parker. 😊
Thanks for this! I became a frustrated member of the R7 preorder club few weeks ago and been dying to hear more about this piece, and after watching this I REALLY DONT WANT TO WAIT ANYMORE 😄
Lol I'm on about 7 pre-order lists
Just got my call back today. Sooo excited to finally get this in my hands
This camera is a new milestone for canon, I hope they will never go back. Good review btw !
Incredible review!!!have nothing to add
Great video, simple to follow and to the points with out being overly bias and trying to get be to buy something. Just straight fact.
Thank you

Nice review Parker - I bought the "poor" cousin R10 just to stay within the budget to start the videography path. I have a few questions for you if I can:
1 - Is it the case to download the C-Log3 profile or I can still with Cinestyle?
2 - Do you have any suggestions on how to edit HDR-PQ with FCPX? It looks a bit tricky for me
Thank you in advance.
Can’t wait you review the Canon R10
Have you done a video on the A7iv color science and using slog 3 to its max potential? Would love to see that, great video !!
Man great video. For video mainly, should I go with canon R7 or Sony a7iii?
Great review.. thx
Great video !
Amaizing camera ❤️
Finally a good review of this camera...
I would absolutely use this for filming short films with
This is an awesome camera for any hobbyist a/o pro shooter at any level if this works for your needs.
Wow!! Amazing video
@ParkerWalbeck if you were using this as a solo cam would it make sense to shoot in log to retain more info or would that only be useful if you were trying to match it up with the 70 etc ? cheers for the review
Shouts out to local Utah filmmaking! I love that hike I recognized it instantly.
This review states that you will get a little bit more sharp detail when using the 4K fine mode instead of the normal 4K. I want to note that this is not the case. To demonstate the sharpness lost we are shown a close up shot of a mug. In such proximity, the line skipping of the normal 4K is not so obvious. In a busy wide shot the difference would be huge.
Great video.
Canon R 7 is superb for sure
I have the 250D and I love it, the 4K isn't that good, but I care about 1080p which is good
I miss these videos!
I have the canon t8i, basic beginner DSLR camera but I spent a lot of money on great lenses. I have been toying with the R7 in upgrading to it. But at the same time I would also love the Sony A7iv. In your opinion, if you were to get one of them, which one would it be and why? I am a videographer, mainly video and I dabble here and there with photography.
Oddly enough, I’m considering selling my R6 to get another R7. The cripples of the R6 vs the “Downsides” of the R7, I think the R7 is a more reliable unit. I’d rather have the peace of mind knowing that my camera isn’t going to shut down in the middle of a shoot. And really, the R7 is no slouch.
@@fulltimefilmmaker
Just a simple question on autofocus section..
When u tested the autofocus ..why did the background letters go into more bokeh when u moved into the camera ..?
Is it because closer the focal distance , more the background blurs
Sorry still an amateur
@@kaydee3407 Hey, im really late about it, but its exactly what you are saying, the closer you get to the lens, more bokeh on your background. You can do this test with your finger to see how much bokeh it adds
another great video Parker, thank you. Can you do a comparison with the c70 please? I have the c70 so after a cheaper b cam with no recording limits and this seems perfect, but interested to see the comparisons with the c-log's please.
Hey Parker, what camera did you use to shoot the piece to camera/talking head here? Looks amazing… I think the R7 is an absolute killer deal and people are sleeping on it due to APSC!
Can't wait for the R7C. THAT will be the best bang for buck video camera when it comes out!
If it is good, canon will put a ridiculous price tag, be sure of that!
Please do more of beginner camera and lens comparison
Hi Parker, what are some lenses recommendations you’d make for the r7? For video making
Love it 👍🏻
Please make a pros and cons video about the new Canon EOS R6 mark ii
This camera is a beast
The Canon R7 is the Canon C100, Canon 90D and Canon 80D, Canon 7D Mark ii rolled into one
I liked the video I wish I could afford a camera like that.
Would be a great upgrade to my canon sl3. ✊🏽🔥🔥🔥
Is this a good camera to upgrade to when you have the 90D?
Hey! Great video. Can you also please review Canon R10! It also has 4k60 fps and 1080@120 fps but at a lower price point.
Would you recommend the r7 for fast action sports videography? Lacrosse, football, etc? I’m on the fence because of its low light capabilities.
Great review Parker. Congratulations. Great camera and for sure the best bang for bucks on cameras below 5k dollars. The first camera to make front to Pockets 4k/6k
Just a tip: We know that in practice, apsc sensor can have a little less bokeh look (the depth of field and bokeh are differente things) but technically speaking the DoF is practically the same. And what changes the DoF (and the bokeh feel) is the photosites size and not the sensor size. The photosite size changes the CoC and that changes the DoF/Bokeh. Which means that you can have a APSC sensor with more DoP/Bokeh feel than a larger sensor depending of the photosite size of each sensor.
What I mean is: Say that the sensor size is changing something is wrong, because it is not.
What you are saying is that for example the A7r iv has less DoF than the A7siii, because the A7siii has larger photosites/pixels? Or that a 2MP APSC has more DoF than a 50MP full frame? Emmm, as far as I understand it's a no! DoF depends on aperture, focal length, distance to subject AND sensor size. Talking about the Circle of Confusion in detail is a complicated and mathematical subject of course and I don't mean to be an expert. But if you please elaborate a bit more. I am interested in your thought process and maybe someone else might comment too.
The R7 with the Canon speedbooster and full frame lens will give a 1.1x crop and almost the same Depth of Field. Another example is using a full frame 2.8 lens on a micro 4/3 body. You will get a 2x crop and an f/5.6 equivilant Depth of Field.
@@Mitchell3701 sensor size has nothing to do with depth of field.
@ By definition, you are absolutely correct. A specific lens and distance to subject will have a specific DoF regardless of the sensor. BUT you NEED a specific sensor size to capture everything a lens provides or else you will get just a crop of that. And this is why sensor size gets into the equation, even just for practical reasons.
@ Correct. It's all about the lens. But the lens has to be designed for a specific sensor size
Hey Parker, can I use canon sl3 for professional cinematography and what is it's native ISO? Footage seems to break after ISO 800
For lower end Canon DSLRs, you’ll always want to shoot ISO 100 when possible
hello, I'm from Indonesia, very useful information, thank you
As a full course owner do I have the LUT you guys use for your videos? I haven't gotten to the color grading part of the course yet.
Damn you are so good at this, I just dropped my video yesterday and it doesn’t hold a candle to yours lol, I always end up forgetting stuff to say, I might have to start getting a teleprompter. Great video i loved watching your review.
@@fulltimefilmmaker thank you 🙏🏾 I’m definitely going to keep creating
Can you make a video about which is the best used camera to buy in 2022?
Canon quality is superb.
what is the best auto focus setup say for a wedding ceremony? lots of movement going on between bride, groom officiant...guests standing etc?
i wanted to switch from canon to Sony (a6600) but after watching some of the videos here on RUclips including this one, it seems like i'm going to stick with canon for a very long time.
thanks for sharing
Cute kiddo’s always makes for good broll! Thx for the info sir 🖖😊
I am buying the R7
do we need to have an M1 Mac in order to cut through the footage? What codec is the R7? Great video guys!
What do you think of the Canon RP ? It's "old" and an entry level full frame, but for someone on a budget that wants to get into the full frame quality, is it worthy? Especially with its mediocre dynamic range? If not worthy, what better alternative for both budget and full frame?
How would you say the R7 compares with the Fuji x-t4 (similar price range)? Many thanks.
we need to know which one is better ( CANON EOS R5C VS CANON C70 / EOS R5C
Also does it only do 10bit in Clog3 or also other picture profiles?
It’s an awesome camera 🎥
Honestly, it's a great camera however the RF lenses line up are just so freaking expensive comparing to sony's apsc lenses. Sure, you can use an adapter but that is still one more thing to carry and take care of and it is extra weight.
Im deciding between this and the fuji x-s20. What do you think?
Does the R6 have 4k @ 120? I didn't see that in the specifications unless it was a firmware update. Or do you mean it records audio at the 1080p @ 120fps?
COOL VIDEO
U will be reviewing r6 mk2 right? Cant wait for that video.
Thanks! This one would be a nice addition for a B-Cam, hoping that Canon fixes the overheating and limited recording time in my Canon R6.
Can I use my EF 16-35 on the Canon R7 with out the speed booster or any adapters? Or do I have to buy an Ef adapter for it ?
You need to get an adapter for it since the R7 has an rf mount. Depending on where you're from, it shouldn't be that expensive (RF to EF adapter costs around $185 in AU) but it'll still have the same field of view, which you would need to get a speed booster instead. They come in to be more pricey, but I don't believe it's necessary to have a full frame field of view. Most movies (especially older ones) were shot on super 35 and have the same sensor size as an APS-C, so you can still do some incredible stuff with it.
The 2.8 aperture Canon 16-35 i guess?
I tested it on the R7 before i sold my full frame camera with regular RF EF adapter and speedbooster and the IBIS on the R7 is going off like crazy (with both adapters, so you need to turn IBIS off for these particular lenses).
Only electronically disconnected (so halfway mounted...) and by manually setting up the focal lenght i could make IBIS usable for the 16-35 lens.
A problem i only had yet rarely (!!!) on 3rd party lenses but my Canon 16-35 2.8 was also affected by unusable IBIS on my R7.
Any suggestion for which lens i can use on r7 ?
hey, is there a link to the titles U are using in the video? The MOGRT?
