I always get excited when I see a new Threefold video post. This one didn’t dissapoint, even with a topic like storage haha I enjoy nerding out on this stuff!!
Stoked to investigate another option. I have a 325gb type b card (IIRC) and it’s amazing how fast it fills up with 6k footage. Maybe a few hours and it’s cooked. And that’s shooting H.265 Aaand I don’t have external SSD recording as an option on my XH2S
Thanks for the video. Good to know about these cards. Still in a "holding pattern" regarding my next camera purchase(s) but it might be a camera that would take advantage of these CF Express B cards.
Waiting for the Black Magic 6K full frame to arrive, gutted i already bought Lexar cards which are way more expensive, Novachips not available on Amazon UK yet.
Threefold can you do a performance test on the SSD once they are past the following capacity threshold of 30% - 50% - 70% and 90%. it important to see if there is any drop in performance on the write speed and read speed most importantly the write speed. Reason been this FS uses TLC for the Nand controller. so there has to be some form of performance hit. also do this test with RAW file format on the lowest compression level to benchmark against the others. and also other FS sold by Angel birth and Samsung e.t.c
Interesting! I don't have a Black Magic... I am using a R5c, and neeeding media to shoot both 4K120 & 8K60... would you suggest these cards...? thanks!
Right now we have only used the Sandisk Pro-Reader CFexpress and its worked well. I did just see the new PGYTECH Case and reader for CFexpress and am really curious to try that out!
No just when you enter into the playback menu. Once in the playback menu you can bounce between clips no problem. It does say "no media detected" every time you go from record mode to playback mode.
This cards are okay but are not good . here is why you really do not want any flash storage with NAND controller with TLC or QLC. once you go over a storage threshold 30 - 50 or more you will start to see significant drop in performance on the read and write. The Write is the one that suffers the most. If you wish to get this card make sure to crab the 1TB to 2TB variant. especially when recording RAW formats. if you are recording low compressed files with low bitrate then the statement above should not affect you much. but you will be affect on RAW uncompressed files the lower compression ratio will hit the NAND hard and fast o performance will suffer. really you want Flash storage with NAND controller using MLD. SLC are expensive and not needed unless you want 12-16K files in DNG. This is why you see High end cinema camera company selling there own or only allowing certified storage. as FS with high bitrate requires SLC, MLC Nand controller chip. this is not indictive of company like RED has there SSD are cheap rebrand SSDs especially on the older camera. This is why RAW compression ratios will start to matter on HIGHER resolution camera due to FS capacity and bitrate performance.

Had to put on my glasses and grab a cup of coffee before diving into this one --> but it was WORTH it! More of this kind of content please :)
Great vid, looks like a cool product. Just a quick note, an on axis punch in is still a jump cut. More distracting than a normal jump-cut actually.
Awesome as always guys, thank you!
Great video guys! Thanks for putting these on everyones radar!
Any time! Thanks for the comment 🤠

I'll find out how long till they are available in the UK
They said after NAB they should be live in the UK. So probably the end of April!
Are they also making a lower cost CFast card for 4K and 6K Super 35? They don't put pricing on their site.
I think they will have some new products launched around NAB this year.
Sounds like those should be up in the next couple weeks!

These cards should have no problem keeping up with the data rates of the R5c when recording 8k60 RAW 4k120. I think they would be a great option!
I was exited until I realised this aren't selling in the UK ,

@@threefoldtv no problem at all , keep me updated

My anglebird cfexpress type b cards 512gb and 1TB heat up a lot in the bmcc 6k ff. Is that a normal thing on these cards? Thanks in advance.
can I use it on Blackmagic pocket 6k pro?
Unfortunately no since the Pocket 6k Pro uses CFast and not CF Express.
Nice Video . Thanks a lot. Any recommendations for a good card reader ?

Hi. Does the camera say no media detected every time you try and playback your clips?
No just when you enter into the playback menu. Once in the playback menu you can bounce between clips no problem. It does say "no media detected" every time you go from record mode to playback mode.
Ok I understand. Thank you for responding.@@threefoldtv
Is this compatible with the 4K or just 6K?
neither...
Yummy.
