Great video man! Absolutely loved your setup and the review, with the 6K FF and 6K PRO with very low light, try shoot at ISO 1250, much better noise performance than 3200
Sooo I've been working with BM support on this issue. I guess they define native as their own thing so it's really confusing for the consumers. Hopefully they can fix this with a firmware update... maybe they are over amplifying at 3200... noise there and even at 1250 is really high. It's crazy good and only get better especially with firmware updates. I have a hunch that BM has some interesting firmware updates up their sleeves with this camera. So who knows? 😏
The Anton Bauer cable is the problem. I had two of them broken - and not on the 2 pin side but the d-tab side. Open the D-Tab plug and most likely the wires are broken because they installed it pre broken due to bending.
Beautifully done 🔥👌. Thank you for this practical review! The things you pointed out makes a lot of sense when you are using a camera in the real world!
Your footage is lovely, especially when the lady is walking through the narrow marlet street in the opening montage. If you are using a conversion LUT over the BRAW footage, which LUT are you using?
Transcode for this project? I realize for same day handoff you often need a camera capable of shooting ProRes, but in this case you would have had proxy files to hand off for editing, then pull the timeline into Resolve on your end for color and final render. Or did you have to turn in all your footage? * The power connection is a little weird and it can feel flimsy, but at the same time that’s a cable I keep backups for when on set or traveling. Nevertheless it shouldn’t eat the external battery. Once the internal battery is topped off it’s not drawing power. I use v-mounts with my CC and I don’t notice any unusual battery drain. I wonder if your external battery has a bad cell? Anyway, would a sturdier power attachment feel better? Probably, but a proper locking lemo connector will stick out a long way and be even more prone to snagging and damage. SDI? That would probably turn off entry level buyers. * At the same time, DR especially at ISO3200 does concern me. It seems like 1250 is the clean alternative ISO instead of 3200. Might BM be able to address this in firmware? I’m not sure, but if not then this camera will be limited to fairly controlled lighting situations.
I've also bought this camera and i can completely agree with all the point you said ! Noise could be a lote better for sure and i absolutely hate the power cable it uses :/
@@CineDailies sad, but true :( Regarding the second native ISO, whenever i shoot with my 6k pro, i'll rarely use it past 1600, since i only use it for commercials, so we have some control of the light. If you treat this camera as a 400 ISO camera (or even 800, like Arri/Red) then this sensor is awesome, colors are truly beautiful and the OG on this camera is amazing! But yeah, it does feel like a rushed camera, i might keep it until they release an Ursa with a full frame sensor so it can help me with the problems that i have with this camera, lack of internal ND, the Power connection and HDMI. If they add 6k 60p at OG would be awesome as well !
In daylight, the blackmagic workflow can "respect" natural light, better than anything for me, for my eyes. ( i do my own theater screening since many years, with my own pictures, from scratch, to doremi DCP2000 and christies CP2230, 2k dci)
Did you find rolling shutter problematic? I'm far from being over concerned about it but I like to do a lot of handheld shooting and I wonder if it's that bad.
As for the noise, you should be exposing for max detail retention (and put your faith in the BRAW) even if it looks overexposed on your Film/Video preview on camera. Especially easy if you can use zebras or waveforms, if not you can try trial and error. It's something blackmagic did not make clear but people experienced with the camera recommend. Just dont overdo it and clip your highlights, as long as your zebras are small you should be good.
Its a crazy video dude❤️❤️ just a little demand can you please make a video like this on your xh2s i know you made alot of video on it but, i really want this type of video for fujfilm xh2s :) i hope you read my comment and made video like this
Great video! My heart wants to love this camera but that form factor / build design is tough to commit to haha I’ve seen so many people rip out the ports too, it’s sketch haha The images look solid!
Does Blackmagic footage downscale when being imported into editing softwares?? I shoot it 6k and it takes it Down to 1920x1080 when doing so for my footage
The proxies are 1080, make sure you have "prefer camera orginals" selected in resolve. It defaults to using proxies, which you most likely don't want if your computer can handle a 4k or 6k timeline.
@@CineDailies Hmm, no... actually, at ISO 800 the 6k has nearly a stop more(.8 to be exact) in the highlights than the 12k sensor, even by checking their respective dynamic range charts provided by BMD. Where the 12k sensor shines in the shadows, having more than a stop than the 6k sensor. You can work with both for sure, you just have to adjust for exposure differently
@@leebrandt8597 hah now you're just nip-picking- there are soooo many variables when dealing with an image out side of the manufactured dynamic range. But you knew that 😉
@@CineDailies It is nit-picking, true. I'm just someone who prefers the 6k for it's highlight sensitivity, even though other cameras have more dynamic range. Don't forget that I did say that both images work fine, it's just a difference in exposure
I was waiting to hear your thoughts on the 6k FF. Whether to get the 6k pro or the 6k ff, still unclear which one to choose 🤣 Shots were beautiful and the way how you structured the review into the vlog was also nice :)
I got one 2 weeks ago... Sending it back today.. going with fx6.. Rolling shutter is terrible.. My HDMI won't work with half my monitors. I was willing to work with it but between those issues and the same terrible form factor/monitor on the back . It's just not an ergonomic camera at all.. to properly get it in a workable condition you need to frankenrig it and it looks terrible on set. Image is great.. but you honestly can't show up with a crazy looking rig.
I really wanted to like the blackmagic system. I circled back to buy one after I waited forever through Panasonic tape options a million years ago through to waiting a million more years for the red scarlet under $1000.00 camera never happened.. then i was scared away from cluttered menu systems of dslr and the mess of hybrid mirrorless. The actual pocket camera was awesomeness but then storage and power musings led me away from them. The GFX100 was beautifull for still image capture but I was horried by moving footage that was a nice and colourful, crisp, wobbly, gelatinous mess 😢😅 I wanted to love the BM 6k but the form factor and ports as well as power options and its again its really awkward shape pushed me toward fx3 or red komodo choices. For first the R3D and the tiny form factor, I went with the red. Its fantastic how the simple 4×4 form factor can lead to endless small or large rig options. I love having multiple screens any size with wireless control and though si shoot 100% raw, the compressed options are there with prores. I like your footage but for the cost, having to worry about bent little adapter cables and
Amazing video, i think only braw is to make this camera cheap, because apple charges to use its codecs in its cameras, and it is not cheap at all, In fact, he gets richer selling licenses than selling devices.
I actually don't like the super shallow depth of field of ff for story telling, thus i really feel like blackmagic should do a 6kpro with tiltable screen and internal nd as well as L mount, that would be a perfect s35 camera for me, and pcc4k is a hidden gem that needs a tiltable screen and internal nd if possible
@@CineDailies since you mentioned the noise pattern with second native iso, i saw similar issue with my s1h, which shares the same imx410 and dual native iso. I am not trying to critic or attack you my bro, I am just sharing my thoughts. When you step down aperture to reduce depth of field, you lose light, and you have to bring up iso or your actual lighting on set, which makes ff's better noise ratio to nothing. For many case, i found out that pocket 4k or 6k with lense set to more opened aperture resulted in more light hitting the sensor, thus with cleaner imgae while good depth of filed, whereas i have to stop down with ff and then bring up digital gain or send native iso. I just don't know why you are having such an attitude on me when i am just trying to make technical discussions

yeah its unfortunate they didn't put more love into this camera
@@CineDailies sad, but true :(
Regarding the second native ISO, whenever i shoot with my 6k pro, i'll rarely use it past 1600, since i only use it for commercials, so we have some control of the light.
Beautiful footage man A1
Thank ya brotha! I'll text you later
Another great story and review bro
Much appreciated
I'm early in my carrer 2y in perfect a cam for the job with the 6k pro
Totally
Footage looks pretty great to me.
In daylight, the blackmagic workflow can "respect" natural light, better than anything for me, for my eyes. ( i do my own theater screening since many years, with my own pictures, from scratch, to doremi DCP2000 and christies CP2230, 2k dci)
Amaaaazing Review. Throw it at the sea :D
Hahah glad that made you laugh
Did you find rolling shutter problematic? I'm far from being over concerned about it but I like to do a lot of handheld shooting and I wonder if it's that bad.
Not for the way I was filming. Lots of lock off shots. The walking shots looked fine.
As you watched this video, how did it look to you?
....just AMAZING!.
🙌🏽
As for the noise, you should be exposing for max detail retention (and put your faith in the BRAW) even if it looks overexposed on your Film/Video preview on camera. Especially easy if you can use zebras or waveforms, if not you can try trial and error. It's something blackmagic did not make clear but people experienced with the camera recommend. Just dont overdo it and clip your highlights, as long as your zebras are small you should be good.
Really enjoy your video!
I'm so glad!
Its a crazy video dude❤️❤️ just a little demand can you please make a video like this on your xh2s i know you made alot of video on it but, i really want this type of video for fujfilm xh2s :) i hope you read my comment and made video like this
I'll see what I can do
@@CineDailies thanks man!
The Nisi glass is awesome.
It's so good
Great video! My heart wants to love this camera but that form factor / build design is tough to commit to haha
I’ve seen so many people rip out the ports too, it’s sketch haha
The images look solid!
Thanks brotha!
Does Blackmagic footage downscale when being imported into editing softwares?? I shoot it 6k and it takes it Down to 1920x1080 when doing so for my footage
You have to change your project timeline settings. If you are in Davinci resolve the default timeline resolution is 1920x1080p
@@CineDailies so even if your actual files of the video on your computer say the file image size is 1920x1080 it’s not?
The proxies are 1080, make sure you have "prefer camera orginals" selected in resolve. It defaults to using proxies, which you most likely don't want if your computer can handle a 4k or 6k timeline.
The images look very, very good. I prefer the 6k sensor to the 12k because the 6k has better highlight sensitivity
I hear ya, but in reality, it's barely noticeable. its still 11.5/12 stop of DR.
@@leebrandt8597 very true, you did
I was waiting to hear your thoughts on the 6k FF. Whether to get the 6k pro or the 6k ff, still unclear which one to choose 🤣
Shots were beautiful and the way how you structured the review into the vlog was also nice :)
Rough man. It's a great camera for this kind of work. But for everything else I use my Mavo
I want to love the camera, and they are great for hobbyists. Amateur filming.. but if you have a paying client.. it's pretty sketchy
I like your footage but for the cost, having to worry about bent little adapter cables and
Emotional ending 😭
I love my friends
Привет. Спасибо за хорошее видео. Скажи пожалуйста, эта камеру лучше по светосиле чем предыдущие модели ? Спасибо
Very nice work. Still looking forward to working with you
🙌🏽
One day!
Amazing video, i think only braw is to make this camera cheap, because apple charges to use its codecs in its cameras, and it is not cheap at all, In fact, he gets richer selling licenses than selling devices.
But the 6k pro has more features and pro res but the same price hmmmmm
7:13 What is the model name of Anton Bauer battery?
Its the power base, its really handy
very nice shots
Glad you enjoyed it
Hello, the video is very good, do you know if suddenly by connecting it to an atoms you can directly get a processed 4K
I don't know what you mean
I actually don't like the super shallow depth of field of ff for story telling, thus i really feel like blackmagic should do a 6kpro with tiltable screen and internal nd as well as L mount, that would be a perfect s35 camera for me, and pcc4k is a hidden gem that needs a tiltable screen and internal nd if possible
You know you dont to film wide open haha stopping down is a thing. haha
@@CineDailies everytime when i talk about tools, i only focus on the technical apscets, not toward a person or his or her style/ preference, I 've been following you for quite a while and I really enjoy your contents, however, sometimes your reply seem a bit mean, so I really wish moving forward we can discuss techniques or film tools but focus on that, not on person
Hi. Do you receive a “no media detected” when playing back your footage?
Also, what would you say is the best storage card for this camera? Without dropping frames and things like that. Thanks
Would the 6k pro be a better buy then the 6k full frame? Do you like it better?
