I like to phrase it this way: Going slower, gives me time to "morn" or say goodbye to things like a gift or things that once belonged to a loved one, etc. I'm not saying goodbye to the memory of that person, but goodbye to a physical item that is cluttering my home. This is my way to avoid "guilt" for not keeping "everything". And yes, I do handle everything and say "goodbye, I hope you find a good home", [I don't literally say that but its the intention (LOL)]. Handling everything is slow going but I do see progress and more importantly, I don't bring anything new in to replace the item. Have a good day Laura Marie!! (Cool name)
Yes! There are so many benefits to living with less other than the “minimalist aesthetic.” Having less stuff to clean, store and move is definitely one of them!
Great advice! You are very wise for your age. I am in my 50s and have found your videos extremely helpful and informative for my minimalist journey. Thank you ❤
Binge watching today as my anxiety is through the roof and I find your content calming. If you suffer from anxiety, it would be great if you could do a video on it or even a series of videos! Thank you, you're helping a complete stranger who is very grateful.
I appreciate your observations on rigidity; I found parenthood and minimalism difficult to merge but I'm trying to be more flexible. I think you have a balanced approach. Congrats on your baby!
Thank you Katherine! I’ve been learning a lot during this life changing event ahead of us as new parents now. So many thoughts and observations I’m eager to share but also eager to learn more about and understand! Keep growing on your journey!! Thanks for be part of this community! 🙌🏾
Wow amazing video. Good luck with your baby. I can say that with a baby, you’ll want to have everything ready for them. You’ll have to very flexible and patient. Even buying things you don’t see being used right away. It sure will come in handy. So being a minimalist shouldn’t apply to them. Give them everything you can no matter what.
I like the fact you pointed out mistakes you can make starting out as a new minimalist, as opposed to how to BECOME a minimalist. There are so many videos out there about minimalism and how it benefits someone, but to take it a few steps back and actually say how NOT to do it, is fantastic. I never really thought about it the way you presented it. Thank you for your advice and video! I really enjoyed it.
Awesome my friend! I’m happy I can offer a different perspective to minimalism by talking about what not to do. Hey if you ever have any questions don’t hesitate to ask. I’m a resource to help you grow on your journey!
More first time parent content, please! So many minimalist RUclipsrs have older kids or several young children. It would be helpful to see someone already a minimalist navigating this new challenge
Children need some stimulation, need experiences, art supplies, a few special toys, strollers, cribs, etc. Some soft places to flop down (think of the old bean bag chairs), maybe a soft carpet since toddlers fall a lot and can get hurt falling on hard floors. As kids get older they may need sports equipment, dance equipment, etc to experience a full life. You can put limits on how much "junk" you allow in the house, but don't keep a sterile environment with kids.
I think minimalism is less about how things look and more about how things make you feel. ex. How you feel in your home For me minimalism is creating a life of simplicity in terms of peace. As someone with anxiety "clutter" tends to make my anxiety go up so that's my "why" and it's been very helpful. Minimalism for me is also having less physical things, and just using that money I'd use to buy things and use it to have life experiences. $60 shopping trip or 2 $30 concert tickets for amazing memories.
I am guilty of this when I was first starting my journey, I felt like I had to do things a certain way and spent money on replacing things for aesthetic which defeated my other journeys purpose of getting out of debt. Minimalism is different for everyone and don’t let anyone tell you other wise, do what makes you happy. BTW great videos!
The moment you stop buying new things that aren’t needed, you’ll realize how much you don’t need! I’m rooting for you to hit that 1-2 years goal Allimarie and any other goals you set!
Dear Mr. Ron, I am so glad about this video!!! I really am grateful that you brought up the theme on..." Rigid " as often, people see me (trying being in a simple life mindset) as owning nothing, living in an empty space and wishing to receive anything; so sad! And yes, it is different (being simple) from one another. :)) Thank you so much for saying out loud what we most need to hear!
Inflation is honestly just one part of the problem in today's economy in all honesty. Supply and demand is starting to experience more delays than usual (I'm noticing this a bit with some online stores and other businesses that I shop from), so when tying that to finances in general, I feel like this could end up being bad thing depending on one's situation and what kind of budget they have. Money that's already been spent on something that won't show up until two, three or five months later, especially if the purchase wasn't necessary, can easily end up being a financial mistake or regret.
Absolutely Amy! The delays with shipping many of these companies are experiencing is crazy! We’re still waiting for our crib that we ordered months ago. Lucky we don’t need it right away but you definitely touch on something here. This can lead to a lot of financial mistakes or regrets. Especially if you don’t have the budget to spend on items you’d be waiting months for to arrive!
So helpful: “Faster doesn’t mean better”. It gives me permission to take time for clarity, and avoid regret.
Yes! Clarity is the ultimate goal. Speed is pointless if it leads to regret!

Minimalist aesthetic? Not worried about that, just want less stuff to have to clean, store, and then move next time I move.

Your dad is a wise man. Guilt does cause confusion in our path.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your solid black baby set of all the baby carriage and stuff! So simple and looks so sleek and aesthetical
Agree with rushed decisions.
It’s been fun watching your growth through the years.

I haven’t bought clothes in 4 years and I’m good with what I have. The fact that I used to be a maximalist who was into fashion blows my mind.
love your dads quote
I haven't purchased clothes in 8 months. My goal is 1-2 years or as long as I can. I want to try a different area in my life next.
The moment you stop buying new things that aren’t needed, you’ll realize how much you don’t need! I’m rooting for you to hit that 1-2 years goal Allimarie and any other goals you set!
A friend who grew up poor in India once said that the average American has enough clothes to last 10 years.
