i feel like people over exaggerate what minimalism is. It can be different for everyone, you just have to be simpler and logical to how you think.

I really love that part about not listening to the noise. I've had to unfollow/unsubscribe to a lot of things so that I don't get distracted about what I might need or want. Getting off instagram specifically helped too - so that I don't compare my life to others around my age!

Be mindful of what we see and hear as well as the company we keep are essential. For me, I no longer want to diminish who I am in order to make others comfortable. Maybe we weren't created to blend in but to stand out. Quality over Quantity. Tfs, Ron.

I don't call myself a Minimalist. I say I've successfully decluttered to own less and am working on maintaining a balance of stuff. A path to clarity is golden!

New subscriber here. I'm already well on my way in my minimalist journey, but I still could use a bit of help sometimes. I just love the way you speak, it sometimes sounds like 'spoken word poetry' (I thought that before you said you write poetry!). I've always been the blackest sheep in a family of black sheep, I love being a nonconformist, or I should actually say, I love being me. Minimalism has helped me to get to know who that is even more.
PS - you're not yet 30, but as someone almost twice your age, I would have guessed you were much older due to your philosophic wisdom!

I love that you say we should do our version of minimalism and not just stay within the aesthetic or rigid rules. I think for many the rules help initially, but later as you grow to understand yourself you often outgrow them or adapt them to better suit your own lifestyles. I equate minimalism with clarity, just as you do. It is so much more than ‘stuff’. When we know ourselves better, we can let the inside out and become freer.

It's so hard not to listen to the noise. There is so much noise and with 3 children, I'm constantly switching filters to discern my values and help them apply filters to their thinking too. Thank you for helping us think about these things

I turned 30 back in August this year, and I remember that feeling of personal freedom I gained after having lived in a fog of my 20's for so long. In some ways, I'd say my journey feels similar to yours (minus the whole having a kid or being married part). I did so much personal journaling, and I used my blog to help document my thoughts around minimalism as a lifestyle. Knowing who I am and staying true to that is SO important, so thank you for sharing this message, Ronald ❤️

I have been on this journey for well over a year now, and the easiest transition was wardrobe. Black shirt and blue jeans for me. I feel more myself wearing that. Way less stress every day knowing that decision is already made. I really appreciate your videos. You have such a peaceful, authentic nature.

“…Minimalism is the natural way in which we should be living…”
    WELL SAID.
I am battling towards recovery from hoarding disorder, and I tell ya - this… this thing I have been stuck in … these mindsets and LIES I have been bound by … “unnatural” doesn’t even sum up how askew / backwards / *WRONG* this way of living is.
Collecting and utilizing objects to express ideas through art can be wonderful - but not when the objects are allowed to take over the home in which you desire to be yourself and create.
There has been no space to create, let alone have peace and remember who I truly am. 😭
I am looking forward to the day when I am free of the compulsions, free of the clutter, free of the resentment within these walls ~ and I am able to help others arise up out of their chains as well.
    ♥️✊♥️

Wow, this video felt like it dropped at the right time for me. I delved into minimalism almost 7 years ago. At the time I was throwing away everything, counting my belongings, going on drastic spending freezes, had the black and white themed bedroom at my parents’ house with pictures on my wall of my friends, family and spots that I loved when I traveled.. then I got married and moved out. Then I started to care more about developing my true authentic style mixed with what the husband loves. He is a minimalist at heart. My parents were in a way hoarders and didn’t care one bit about decluttering. That made me so claustrophobic in their small home, I vowed to make my home my comfy spot, without taking away the things that I loved but instead had things that I loved to look at and wear daily. Looking at minimalism in a different perspective opened up a lot of doors for my personal growth and I learned who I truly was.. no longer obsessed with shopping and conforming to society as I was always personally a non-conformist due to beliefs constantly being shoved down my throat by either family or friends, I had to break free and step away from social media and people to realize that it’s okay to not have everything that everyone else has, believe everything that everyone else does, act like everybody else.. It’s okay to be the black sheep, people who are just like you will gravitate to you, your aura will attract and repel who belongs in your life. Always stay true to you. ☺️ Thank you so much Ronald. Although I don’t always comment I am incredibly grateful for your advice. Hope all is well in your life and your wife has been recovering well. ☮️💓

What I learned as I travel this path, is that as I declutter, I get to know/realize who I really am m and what I want, and what I love. I was hiding behind all the clutter.

Minimalism means just that - a minimal amount of stuff. The popular design aesthetic for Minimalism is a neutral color palette. You are absolutely right! We don't have to change ourselves to follow Minimalism. I have a teal-green sofa and side chair and mustard-yellow upholstered dining chairs, because I like color! But, I have made a conscious effort to cut down on the amount of decor.

Wondering how to navigate through the holidays without accumulating lots of things. I appreciate the thought but really don't want things. Don't want to come off as ungrateful but gifts stress me out. How does anyone handle the gift situation?
