Hello Ronald Banks, Happy New Year to you. My name is Barbie and I am new to your channel. While watching this video I felt like you are a friend. The way you speak is so gentle, peaceful, and kind. It truly resonated with me and I appreciate you sharing everything you did in this video. I will definitely be doing more of the suggestions you mentioned, like decluttering, for example. I already read a ton of books, I love to read, so you mentioning how you and your wife are always reading was beautiful to hear. Glad I landed on your page and on this video, Thank you and Cheers!

Thank you for your wisdom, your content always gives me a boost and motivation to simplify and live a better life. I like your idea to lead with curiosity, I think we all have that inner compass but we forget to listen to ourselves. Also congratulations to your and your wife on having your first baby, being a parent is one of the best adventures life has to offer! Best wishes into the new year and please keep the wisdom coming, it makes a difference!

I think when you're a child you have your parent/s carer/s as a safety net. If you get too close to something hot they stop you burning your hand etc so all 'curiosity' or exploration is done within the confines of a supervising adult. When babies learn to platform they step away from the safety net of their person and start to explore the world 'alone' but they still know all they have to do is turn around and run back to safety. When you're an adult I think you find comfort and safety in the familiar, in being able to predict the outcome of something with some reliability whether that's a feeling like Netflix binge = turn my brain off when I'm overstimulated or a phonecall with X = my safe space. It can lead to being less creative and taking less risks and risking being stuck in your ways but there's some value in knowing what you like and what feeds your soul and not endlessly searching for new stuff thinking it will be better or you'll be less bored. Conversely I too agree a bit of curiosity is a good thing. Love a rabbit hole situation when you Google something then you end up watching videos about it and seeing if there's groups in your local area and before you know it you have a new hobby or pastime or expertise. In summary adulthood is realising there's no adult to come save you, YOU are now the adult and that is terrifying enough to make anyone want to stay home and not try new stuff but safety in numbers I might have to be my own adult but I know a bunch of them so we can go figure it out together.

Couldn't have said it better myself! I remember experiencing those feelings of being my own adult right after I hit 30 years old back in August.... and quite frankly, I still find myself getting hung up on this because of everything I've experienced in my life in previous years. Who I am today is someone who is still trying to figure things out, and there's nothing wrong with that 💖

Hello! I am a long time follower of yours and i have to say, some of your advice is really helpful! BUT(T) I have to put a disclaimer over the living in the past advice. DON'T PUT YOUR BLINDERS ON!!! IF SOMETHING FROM THE PAST AFFECTS YOU SO MUCH IN THE PRESENT THAT YOU CANNOT MOVE INTO THE FUTURE OR EVEN DEAL WITH THE PRESENT, THEN PLEASE FOCUS ON THAT. GO TO THERAPY, FIND OUT WHY IT IS HOLDING YOU BACK, WHEN YOU FOUND OUT WHY YOU CAN FIND A WAY OF HEALING/ SOLVING IT. Never put blinders on yourself and be curious about yourself

Excellent! I am moving out oif state in just under a month and going to a totally different place. I am decluttering and know there will be some things I will enjoy more in TN than in Chicago. I focus on those. I have to ask myself whether something is meaningful... if not, it has to go. I am literally leaving my comfort zone and going to a rural area.... never lived anywhere but in an urban area. And in Illinois. The artist in me loves to jump right in... I have done just that in real life, at a job that lasted 26 years. My first night at this pizzeria, I was the only phone worker who showed up and had no choice except to jump in. Art and life are one and the same, not separate entities.

My boyfriend and closest girlfriend are both from Illinois, and while it's going to be a while until my boyfriend can officially move out, I find it to be quite a funny coincidence that you're from around the same area as them! Best wishes to you on this part of your journey, and for safe travels! 😊

I really enjoyed this; I had a 45 minute car journey this morning and switched on the radio talk show, which was filled with so much negativity about how things are broken here in the UK (they are!), so I decided to listen to this video instead and it made me feel so much better. Cutting out negative media (including social media) is another one of my NY resolutions.

The window of amazement and exploration narrows as we age due to habit and expectations. No adult sees the sunrise with amazement after staying up all night. Since we have these habits, it's best to see things with wide eyes and happiness/curiosity. Life is far more fulfilling with this mentality. Learn something new, curve your mentality and discover new things.

I've been decluttering for 2 years now on + off. Haven't regretted letting go of 1 item ... only to think that I could have asked a friend first if they wanted it before I donated it.
Curiosity is wonderful - I always enjoyed learning the how + why behind things. I've branched out in my genres of reading and enjoying the pages I've turned. Worse case scenario, the book isn't finished, but I'll give it to a friend or library.

I try to make it a safe space for people beginning in their explorations. There is so much negativity and cruel gate keeping online. I wanted to start a group where making mistakes and saying the wrong thing doesn't mean the person has to be squashed. Looking forward to running the group in 2023. I have so many ideas

🖐This is so me. Twelve years ago I started getting panic attacks and anxiety and with every year my life got smaller and smaller and now I mostly live inside my small comfort zone. I know I need to change and how to do it, but I am terrified. Sometimes it feels like my little safe bubble is killing my mind but it is safe from the terror that is panic attacks and so I do nothing but make excuses, year in and year out. I have never heard it phrased like that, but it really rang true.

Absolutely wonderful ideas to start the New Year! I have journalled since I was 23. I started when my hubby died and it has been my way of sorting things out. This was the best video I've watched this year & I have watched many from many people! We live some of this but what a great reinforcement!
