DON'T KILL THE WHALE
You're first
I'm last
You're thirst
I'm asked to justify
Killing our last heaven beast
Don't hunt the whale
In beauty
Vision
Do we
Offer much
If we reason with destiny, gonna lose our touch
Don't kill the whale
Rejoice
They sing
They worship their own space
In a moment of love, they will die for their grace
Don't kill the whale
If time will allow
We will judge all who came
In the wake of our new age to stand for the frail
Don't kill the whale

Tormato is the ninth studio album by British progressive rock group Yes. Issued as the follow-up to 1977's acclaimed Going for the One, Tormato received less than charitable reviews upon release and its virtues are still a matter of debate for Yes fans and critics. Many fans and some band members -- particularly Rick Wakeman -- state that the production was faulty, resulting in compressed and dull sound.
It is the last album featuring singer Jon Anderson and keyboardist Wakeman before the band's disbanding in 1981. However Anderson returned to Yes when the band reformed in 1983, and Wakeman returned in 1990.

Between 1972 and 1978, Yes had six top ten albums in the US alone. Jon Anderson is one of rock history’s all time great vocalists. He’s rocking those RayBan Aviators in this video. Steve Howe and Chris Squire, two London lads, tearing it up on guitar and bass like a boss. Rick Wakeman with his mastery on the keys and Alan White with perfect tempo, timing and pace on the drums.
Quite right!
Yes
Perfectly said!
AGREE! AGREE! AGREE!
Rip Squire
One of the very few Yes songs with comprehendible lyrics.
Another great song written by Chris Squire.
A short song, which makes an important point. I love how Squire, Howe and Wakeman mimic underwater sounds and evoke whale song.
Ladies and gentlemen Chris Squire and Yes the greatest show on earth
An underrated song with a great message. I love at 2:07 when it shifts up into Rick Wakeman's otherwordly keyboard solo and the eerie "whalesong" effect toward the end.
Verdade essa é minha parte favorita da música
Unbelievably underrated, like Holy Lamb. I think if these songs were on any other album it would have garnered a lot more respect.
Me: I promise I won't get political.
Also me after one drink:
after neil peart emerges from alan white
wow billy Sherwood played with foreigner, why put that on one's resume? smh
forrest shelly snarky
2:22 Wakeman played the Birotron - the instrument he involved in design
Chris Squire doing a John "Thunderfingers" Entwistle impression on the bass.
John copied Chris. Let's not forget that.
Lol huh?
@@maccafan10 Squire was probably the best bass player ever. The guitar became part of his body........
Yes were way ahead of their time! I love yes!
This is a really underrated song with beautiful lyrics
So unbelievably underrated. Should've been on a different album, tormato isn't one of their best. It would have gotten more respect. Great message it has too!!
@@thomasalbers208 I agree 👌. It was one off the songs which made me dig Yes
Only video I can find where a Birotron is used.
Unfortunately, it's deep down in the mix.
@@maxg.-musician02 Yeah, classic 60s/70s miming music vid--Rick's playing the Birotron briefly in the video but on the record I think he's playing the polymoog at that moment.
Birotron was invented by Dave Biro at 70's in a project financed by Rick Wakeman.
Saw them “in the round” circa ‘78 or ‘79. Great show!
I love this song! ❤️
Killer guitar. So unique.
The guitarsolos are fantastic
Truly a wonderous song !
I love this track from Yes...
#Yes, #ProgRock,
They were still phenomenal in 2013. I saw them in Jackson, Mississippi, that year, and it was one of the best concerts I have ever seen.
Still? In music one does not necessarily lose their abilities until much later on. This is not like a pro or Olympic sport where it is nearly impossible to still play at a top level after age 35 or 40. Some guys play well at age 80 or 90.
@@michaelcraig9449, yep.
Saw them in the round....77?
Only Wakeman could make his keyboard sound like whales crying! DON'T KILL THE WHALE! ! !
He actually used a special instrument for this song. The only time he ever used it.
@@sportster16301 is it a Birotron?
@@HeraldOD a BirotronB90
@@HeraldOD yep, this is the only music video where a birotron is shown
Dig it! Dig it!
Thanks for bringing me here, Quentin.
This is fantastic
A lot of people view Tormato as a crap album-but this song is just too catchy!
while i dont like it as much as TFTO CTTE Or Relayer it has its Merits
This is far from the worst song off the album. It may actually be the best.
Tormato is a brilliant album, I think the weakest point of it is actually the production and/or recording which I feel could have been much better.
gradually going tormado
There are a couple of songs I really like off the album
El single de esta canción lo compré en el otoño de 1978.Ya ha llovido desde entonces.
Steve Howe nagrał chyba wtedy swoją najlepszą yesowską solówkę.
A message that must continue to be sent out world wide until the atrocities against all marine and land animals stops ! And there is no better way than a message in song -:) Thank you Yes !
Another beautiful eye opening song!✌
I still have the single I bought way back in 78'
Cyrus(from 1979's The Warriors film) : "Can you dig it ?"
Jon Anderson in 1978 : "Dig it, dig it..."
i feel like the Birotron is mixed MUCH louder in this version compared to the album mix.
2:20 And there is the rarest instrument in existence.
Was back in the 1970s, but now it's the most common instrument today
He's talking about the Birotron not the synthetizers in general.
that's absolutely insane seeing it in action like that!! it sounds incredible! it's so surreal and kind of unsettling to see something with so much mystique just _there._ it's like seeing footage of a long-since passed away man in his prime from a century ago. i wonder where that particular synth is now. i doubt it's functional anymore...
Love the bass in this song
superb LP, bought it when i was 13 in 1978
QUENTIN BROUGHT ME HERE!!!!!
He's a piece of garbage
Always dug thus bit
Howe guitar is spellbinding
Still listening in 2022 and got tears !!!
This is really a kick a** video for the time thanks for posting it
Howe's enchanting guitar
Excelente!
I saw them play it live at the first show on the Tormato Tour... fantastic!
rick did an amazing job!
Wow, never even knew they did a video for this back in the day. That's cool!

Yes is universal progressive rock ... Manaus Amazonas Brasil. .
Quentin has done a beautiful tribute to this song :)
All YES is great ...seen them three times 1978 in the Round Greensboro coliseum 1984 & 1988 Charlotte 😎
The only Yes song’s where the lyrics make fucking sense
Still trying to work out Tales, read somewhere Rick Wakeman even asked the question, what the f..k is it all about?
😂😂😂😂
Obviously you're not listening. Too bad. You don't know what you're missing.
Owner of a lonely heart. Much better than the owner of a broken heart.
@@kurtdodge6248 *Trevor wrote it..
dig it!..
Dig it, dig it!
Really dig this song from Yes also like starcastle try that too
I saw you in Lima Peru in South American tour 2012!
Beautiful!
Wow first song played followed by 3 adverts killed the album
This is someone of my favorite Yes songs, but I think that my "number 1" favorite is "Starship Trooper".
De las mejores bandas sicodelicas
One of my favorite... Yes Albums...
Jäklar va bra!
Quentin Smirhes Smashed this !
Great song with amessage
I always sang it as "Don't kill Dan Quayle"
This is rock and roll
2:07 epic Birotron solo :3
I believe you are correct.
It was right then and it is still right today.
I really like it

Hello, ont Sans lasse pas 👍🤘⚡🔥
Yes's funkiest track ever
I agree that there should not be ANY WHALING at all! These animals are already endangered and critical to food chain and future generations to see them!
Now tell that to the Japanese.
@@reaganl.5113 release...release! the submarines...and "put a tin-fish in their belly!"
@@reaganl.5113it’s not a coincidence that the Pacific right whale and the grey whale are critically endangered there
👍♥️👍
Though this is shot on PAL analog color videotape, an HD upscale and new audio transfer would really benefit this always-interest gin track form an unusual album form the band, one of their most mixed and unusual, but no less ambitious than their usual excellent output.
best video ever
More topical and urgent than ever.
"Take It, Take It".....................
2:10 keyboard sounds like whale song
this is the 1st time, video or live, I've ever seen where he plays w/ his fingers and not a pick
非常棒抠图,爱来自互联网💕💕💕💗💗💗💓(大家都很可爱)(醒男的鲸鱼叫声很好听)(不是说他叫的)
the Line bass..
Yes are the monsters of progressive rock
Awesome isn’t strong enough.
The guy who made the 1st whale song recordings 55 years ago died those recordings stopped the mass industrial hunting of whales
rejoice they sing they worship their own space
redeem the whale heat
Six top 5 albums in the US between 1972-1978. They only had nine US top 40 hits though.
Tormato is the only LP certified platinum between Close to the Edge and 90125. Too bad that potential fans don't hear for themselves...
They didn't need hits. They had a cult following.
Always an album band more than a singles band, that was one way we measured greatness in music back in the day
Me recuerda más Bee Gees o Andy Gibby en la Disco Music. Es un trabajo muy diferente de los anteriores no muy inspirado, pero me encanta el timbre y ritimica de la guitarra.
Chris squire plays his underwater wahl bass under water.
2:13 suena parecido a la cumbia xD
After all these years, can't we get a version of this that has the Dolby noise reduction corrected?
Dig it, dig it
I dig this song
It's happening! Stop the madness.
wow, Squire was really thin. And classy
Have to wonder what Roger Dean would have come up with. I'm happy with the dark and muted color palette by Hipgnosis but Dean is another thing entirely
о чём поют я не понимаю, но музыка просто супер!!!
With Yes, you almost never know what they’re talking about
Iceland are stopping whaling cause its hurting tourism industry. Took a while for Yes’ reputation advice to be heeded.
i hope the japanese are aware of this piece of music and translation...
One of the biggest bands in the world at the time and they must've spent....what....10 minutes on the video ? 😢
Gli Yes in questo album usano uno strano Mellotron il BIROTRON !!!!!
This sounds Mike Oldfield in places.
RICK WAKEMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Girl the birotrone
If we reason with destiny, gonna lose our touch ...
Behold the birotron
