NO OPPORTUNITY NECESSARY, NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED
Step out in the night when you're lonely
Listening for the sounds that your ears don't hear
I know your cross is heavier with every step, every step
But I know a man and he'd walk miles for you
Stop!
You stay where you are
Take a look at yourself
Take a good look at yourself
Can't tell your mama, she'd only tell ya
That she told you so
The life you're leading she won't believe
The real trick of life we all know
Dawn turns to day and the dawning
Daytime night time and we still can't see
Why must we wait until the morning light?
To wake up and be

Geddy Lee said this was the first Yes song he heard, when he skipped school one day to go to his friend's house and check out this new record he had.
i believe he said that when he and ALEX inducted YES into the RRHOF.
Listen to that bass line; it’s no wonder Geddy Lee cites Chris Squire as his biggest inspiration.
I come from a Rolling Stone article about Geddy Lee's favourite bass players and yeah, that's exactly what he said. He also said Yes are the only band he has ever lined up all night to see on concert.
Yup…Ged sent me. 🤘😎🤘
im currently reading geddy's book right now. :)
Just listen to the bass line in this track. Chris Squire was immense.
I love how the bass is so loud in the mix you can not miss it :-)
Agreed! An early example of Yessification
Clearly one of the best bass lines ever, not surprising it made Geddy Lee want to pick up a bass.
Only Entwhistle was better.
@@disgruntledtoons When I was asked “ who’s your favorite bass player “?, I constantly contradicted myself .
One day I’d say “ John Entwistle “ and the next “ Chris Squire “.
Been giving that answer since the late 70’s .
Nowadays, I just call it a tie between them both .
Have a great day 🤠
"Aah yes! Back in the days when we all weighed collectively what we weigh individually now." - Rick Wakeman
That applies mainly to Rick, the non-vegan of the group.
@@rikk7041 And beer drinker by gallons! (Not that it's bad) 😁😁
Lol
@@rikk7041 Yes are vegan?
Rick wasn't in the band yet.
Geddy Lee's quote:
"It reminded me of John Entwistle in that aggressive way, but the music was much more adventurous and much more layered. The song I first heard was 'No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed.' For a young kid bass player, it was amazing. I mean, it blew me away. And for the next umpteen years, I became a die-hard Yes fan, and a die-hard Chris Squire fan.”
Geddy was about 17 when "Time and a Word" came out. (And Chris Squire was only 22.)
You overzealous neckbeard rush fans never get lost do you it’s not hard to see why Neil didn’t want nothing to do with you clowns
the sound of that Hammond organ is absolutely out of this world!
Tony Kay
Yes. I discovered the first two albums after Going for the One, but indeed there is already greatness in the sound of the band, and the Hammond lifts it all up somewhere… cosmic. The guitar follows, and the rest is history
Even more awe inspiring on The Prophet

Tony is great Hammond player, and that's was his failure with the band - Anderson, Howe and Squire wanted him to use more synthesizers and more modernised sound, but he refused. Then, he was fired and replaced by synth wizard Rick Wakeman
Chris redefined what it meant to be a rock bassist.
or simply "DEFINED" it
One of a kind!
What bass is Chris playing here?
@@raynic1173
It's a Fender Telecaster style bass. I can't remember the exact model off the top of my head.
@@briano.5746 thanks, it's kind of funny that in the YES rrhof intro speech that Geddy Lee comments that when people ask why I played the Rick 4001 I tell them listen to 'No Opportunity... No Experience Needed' and yet Squires playing a Fender here, ha! (at least in the video) but doesn't sound like a 'Rick' either.
Holy Cripes! We are lucky the band survived this promotional shoot to record another day! I couldn't believe Jon twisting around on the bonnet while the thing was going down the road!
Chad Blair I’m surprised they didn’t hobble into that junkyard half naked with all the clothes they were throwing in the street..
Well well well another day
Louise X that’s tony kaye not Anderson
We all started somewhere.....some how..........
Did you see how Gray Tony's hair was in the early eighties ? That kind of tells you everything lol Oh to be young again
Love the boys doing their best Banana Splits imitation. RIP Chris Squire, gone but your vocals and thundering bass will echo forever more.
Banana Splits is going back. I barely remember that.
Banana Splits !
Nice reference.
Almost makes me want to have a bit of H.R. Puf'nStuff !
That was a subtle name for that ...uhhhh "show" ? ;-)
Banana Splits were Vox endorsers. LOL
@@jimashtube Droop was: ruclips.net/video/PJn8Q4BXxWk/видео.html
La la la,La la la la, La la la la la la la la! Loved the Banana Splits!
Fortunately for me i got to see Jethro Tull in Sacramento promoting their album Aqualung ...but the opening act was phenomenal please give a warm welcome all the way from England..." YES"...out of the gates they just blew us away..who are these guys..the vocals alone...omg.A fan boy ever since...!!!!
Look at those Young Fellas... They're havin fun like no tomorrow, just being yung boys playin' the hell out of their instruments... Those must be the days...
When Bruford said it was suicide driving to the next gig, this must be what he was talking about.
I read that, too, in his book.
@Louise X
Literally and figuratively
@Louise X
No idea
Crazy spinning on the bonnet
Joseph Francis Burton they took off his shirt 😂
Squire's bass line in this song was epic.
Clearly the title of this song was inspired by their driving ability
It's a cover tho. Good joke if they would've actually named and wrote it.
Written by Richie Havens. And it was good then too.
jimashtube very interesting. Good comment. There is a section in the middle which sounds like no other part of song. Triggers a memory I heard it in connection with a US western TV show theme, or could even be sampled from an Aaron Copeland piece. Any thoughts? Anyone?
PEr Wikipedia:
" It opens with an orchestral arrangement taken from the soundtrack to the 1958 Western film The Big Country by Jerome Moross.
jimashtube Awesome! Thanks, I look forward to listening to the original work.
Let's not forget John Anderson's legendary acoustic performance alone on top of the scrap heap of abandoned cars that is TRULY the driving force behind this musical masterpiece.
True.
Lite som Sven-Bertils gitarr, hörbarhet nolla🤣
Bruford is SUCH a killer drummer!
i'm so glad they they lived beyond this video.
THIS IS THE BEST BAND OF PROGRESSIVE ROCK.. THE SOUND OF YES IS UNIVERSAL. MANAUS, AMAZONAS, BRASIL.
That bass line, though. What a force of nature Squire was.
From the looks of Bruford's driving, we almost lost the whole original lineup before they even really got started.
Actually, it was Chris who was the most accident-prone. Bruford relates a time when they took separate cars to a gig in France. Bruford was driving by himself, and Chris was driving the other car, and went off the road and plowed into some earthworks. ("Not the band Earthworks," he was careful to add.)
I can see now how Kaye ended up with a broken foot for the cover pic on The Yes Album.
Also this aint the original line up. Howe is there.
We almost lost JA at 2:47 it seems. Wonder how Houdini got out of that one?
@@nz1229
Don't think Jon would try that now
A reminder of my college years when I first got into Yes, but it was that unbelievable rumbling bass of Chris Squire throughout the song that made me pick up a bass and learn to play it. I hasten to add that I could never emulate or even get near many of Chris’s intricate bass lines but at least he made me have a go. Also due to Chris Squire I am the owner of a 1974, 4001 Rickenbacker bass which has sadly never got near its full potential as a bass guitar. Thanks Yes and Chris for some great songs, memories and blistered fingertips back in the 1970's....
Now that's what I call 70's driving style! This video would probably be illegal to make today.
Congratulations to Yes ! Finally in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame !
This song is dangerously catchy. I'm pretty sure it's haunting my dreams. I can hear it ringing in my ears!
Man I Miss Chris Squire. Dude played the Bass like a Boss.
Nobody:
Not a soul:
Jon Anderson: what if I did a 360 on top of a moving car?
Bro you're everywhere
Amazing nobody got killed lol.
Whoah! I've never heard this song, and I'm glad they didn't die while filming this video.
Jon made me cringe.
+Cyan Blue How did he make you cringe? Just curious.
jeff kirchens this comments over a year old but it was because he was sitting on the hood of the car.
I see...it was his risky antics on the car.
It's on the Time And A Word album (YES' 2nd album).
40 years ago, Chris was the very first bassist that I could tell who was playing without knowing the name of the band. One of a kind!!
Love that bass! Rip squire. Watching the r&r hall of fame induction, missing Squire.
I was fortunate to attend the event .
Wakeman gave the best speech ever !!
R.I.P. Chris Squire 🙏🎵🙏🎵🙏
@@tubes5150he was HILARIOUS!!!
Geddy Lee brought me here.

I didn't get here from pornhub that time.

don't worry! it seems like superchris took the steering wheel in his hands
Although seemingly reckless.....
.....these were healthy fit young men , who probably did more reckless things during their childhood days..........like most of us .
Remember when we were all young and dumb?
@@zoso73 I don't know about you, but I'm still young and dumb.. . well at least dumb.
Jon the stunt man. Lol.
I had no idea there was a music video for this. I love this song.
Son totalmente unos genios para mí lo mejor de un rock progresivo le doy gracias a dios y a mi padre en el cielo por haber dejado estupenda música.
Belgian TV was a riot in the day, god bless them, rock on !!!
Legend has it that Bill Bruford's boot is still in one of the bushes by the road there...
Now that's how you drive
Excellent to see the kids doing it way back ....
Awesome
I feel Yes first two albums get overlooked.
Brilliant how they integrated the theme from The Big Country at 2:40. Watching the movie on tv and the melody was awfully familiar.
It's obvious that no fucks were given that day.
This is officially the greatest RUclips comment on any Yes video, ever.
The most beauty example of progressive rock
Dudes were takin it next level!
I can't even imagine what it must have been like to be young back then listening to music of such high quality.
It was wonderful I was in high school discovering hash and LSD and I bought this when it came out had to buy more copies of some. Wore them out
Fast and Furious before its time! Great track and that whole album is such a gem. Time and a word. Word!
Anderson 'No one shifts gears like me'....... Bruford, cigarette at the ready ' Hold my beer!'
This was a RICHIE HAVENS song.... but he wrote it for YES, without realizing. This and AMERICA are the best covers, and YES could have just been an excellent cover band, if it wasn't for their outlandish talent and vision getting the better of them during the 70s.
The best sound system I ever heard at a live concert was YES...90215. Unbelievable
@Noble:Surely,you do not mean to say that 80s artistically bankrupt, yet Huge commercially successful,...ahem Genesis (it brings tears to myne eyes to even use the name, when in TRUTH,they were The Phil Collins Project!)The REAL Genesis led by Mr.Peter Gabriel were the ONLY group who could give Yes ,a run for their money. But,you are referring to sound systems ONLY,so indeed, they both had top of the line sound ,including live engineers. However,Yes still had a massive edge in songwriting over The Phil Collins Project!🤗
@@nirradyen-tolobaz3727 You we’re holding that in for years, weren’t you.
I saw the tormato tour in los Angeles and the sound was perfect.
This is what being in a band should be about...making great music and having FUN. It's too bad financial matters and bills and such ruin it.
I believe this song was written by Ritchie Havens
Unbelievable. The musical geniuses who later went on to record Close To The Edge were the first to ever ghost ride the whip.
Ivar Hole Aksnes What can I say, YES were always breaking new ground! LOL!
Ivar Hole Aksnes , #MotoSurf
One of my favorite pre-Howe & Wakeman tracks along with Astral traveller. Love Bill's creative drumming! Of course Chris' lead bass guitar! But 2:44! I guess they were young and fearless then. Glad nothing happened!
Absolutely fantastic song fantastic album. I really think this is my favorite song off time and a word. I know what to cover but yes did this just properly. Thank you
Oh That Bass Line !!!!
All thru the late 70’s , until recent years , I’ve been asked Numerous times , “ who’s your favorite Bass Player “??
( I’m a bass player by the way ).
So I’ve told many , “ Chris Squire “ !!
I’ve also told many - “ John Entwistle “.
I’ve never contradicted myself more !!
So nowadays I simply say “ it’s a tie between Chris and John “.
2 of my absolute favorites and inspirations.
And they are both gone .
R.I.P. Chris Squire 🙏🎵🙏🎵🙏
R.I.P. John Entwistle 🎵🙏🎵🙏🎵
You still have Geddy!
What a great song and a light-hearted video. Love Yes
Geddy Lee told me to listen to this song.
Always loved YES. Off to see them soon. This video though reminded me of the opening to the Banana Splits tv show!
I ever imaginated stars, deep sky, abstract and mystical images with this music through my teenagehood... now I see this Music Video and it all falls down.
The dune buggy scenes are hilarious!
Esses músicos do YES são pra música o que foi a seleção brasileira na copa do mundo de 70, só tinha gênios!👏👏👏
Time and the words have kept this Great band alive!✌
this is my favourite Initial D episode
Maddie Jamieson
And then there's the JoJo song (Roundabout)
10 years ahead of the time.
How is this not a more well-known YES track?
That bass line is off the chain
Listening to this song because Geddy referenced it in the Rock Hall of Fame induction of Yes. The rush sound makes perfect sound.
This album was what made me love earphones and sinking into the music
They all know how to shift. I'm impressed.
Nearly everyone drives manual transmission cars in the UK. It's unusual to drive automatic over here.
Cool to see Steve in the video, even though he wasn't on the recording.
Chris bass lines.fantastic
It's funny to see Steve in this video when he didn't play on the track. He joined YES after the Time And A Word album was completed. Peter Banks was the guitarist for this song.
This Clip was obviously registered after Peter Banks left the band...
But the guitar player in the Clip is Steve Howe.
Great video. When you're young, you tend to think you're indestructible - unimaginable looning around in that buggy. Amazed they all survived.
I've always thought the bass guitar sound on this album is the best one ever recorded by anyone anywhere, especially that ending lick on "Clear Days".
Yo los conozco desde sus inicios el mejor grupo Inglés progrecista
Can't help but smile watching this 😄
Probably my favourite music video ever
@4:20 see Tony Kaye throws one of Bill Brufords boots out of the buggy! :O)
That freaking bass!!! Chris 💕
I love these promos for Belgian TV; I've only just discovered them for myself. Chris already setting the standards in the bass guitar department.
This is the most 70’s video ever
This is definitely my fav song from now
They really spared no expense did they, I mean only the best locations, that scrap yard in Hawaii ! Now we know where the Banana Splits got their Beach Buggy from.
This band was so tight every single one amazing incredible bass incredible percussion Steve brilliant Sean looks so beautiful they all do Rick amazing
The banana splits are still looking for their stolen yellow car that yes were driving in this video lol.
I have always liked yes. 90125 is my most spiritual lp! Have not listened to much early but i always felt the holy spirit was grooming them to make 90125 just for me. Thank you men. Much love. Geddy lees playlist brought me he on thanksgiving day
The spirits were in the 70's . The 80's albums with Trevor Rabin were all for a different type of audience.
I totally dig this song.
Love Chri's Tele bass ripping !
Steve didn't play on this album, it was Peter Banks. Jon Anderson is not even close to hitting the strings on that acoustic guitar. Bill Bruford doesn't sing.
Still fun to watch.
Larry Sizemore that's these videos for you. Lip sync and inaccurate.
Bill drives a mean Myers Manx though! 😄😄
Always loved YES
I'd forgotten how funny this video was... haven't seen it in ages..
Bill recounted early days of Yes on the Yesyears video ....
He said he had a crummy kit that he threw a black coat of paint on and the band thought it was an Olympic drum kit .. they were so impressed with it they invited him to be in the band ......
He also mentioned that very mini they were tooling around in and said
" oh they were very hip " in his typical sarcastic style
and yes another excitimg song with bill bruford on drums
Look! Steve Howe is having fun!
@@hungdug7666He didn’t play on the album, but he was in the band when it was released. He’s in the video.
love it, love YES !
Love that buggy! It's almost as cool as the bass line.
But I never knew that Yes were so Banana Splits. Very cool.
Downloading.. awsome!!
Geddy Lee said listen to this song at the HOF induction of YES! :)
That adapted Hammond is beyond cool.
The orchestrations make the song sound like the Blazing Saddles soundtrack
Pretty fool-hearty passengers on that yellow buggy car! Fun song. :)
