Bas Rutten, GSP, Anderson Silva, Prime Fedor would all crush in todays MMA still. Fedor especially was the most scary fighter I've ever seen. I would argue there far more DEPTH in the 2000s MMA era. Tons of great fighters who weren't well known due to no social media back then.

GSP also really good wrestling even tho he wasn't a wrestler. Not saying he will out wrestle Usman (cause that's not possible) but if GSP keeps on with the precise or creative striking he wins by decision.

Kept chopping Hughes' legs with low calf kicks while keeping him engaged with 1-2s then switched up in the second round and caught him flush with a left high kick while tricking Hughes into thinking he was going for another calf kick. GSP was truly way ahead of his time
In many ways actually, clean cut, white meat babyface, technically the best of his era, a monster of a draw in Canada and the face of the company just before the boom of MMA. He's one of the biggest reasons, UFC was able to survive and thrive in the early to mid 00s (like Bret was to WWE in the early to mid 90s).

I saw this fight. There were many unintentional low blows, but GSP apologized for that. After defeating Matt Hughes, he had nothing but respect for him. He hugs him and promised him that he would give him a rematch and they would fight again. GSP kept his promise and won the Trilogy. He is such a class act
It’s pretty sad that at 33, Matt Hughes was on the end of his career. Conor McGregor is now the same age. Back then though, the average career was only about 6-8 years.
