Seen this summer in San Sebastian (Spain) Jazz Festival - What an unexpected surprise!!! To be honest I came to see Sco, no previous idea about Medhlau/Guiliana.Just after I realised no record was available for the trio, I purchased Mehliana - really enjoyed, but as a guitar lover and amateur player I miss something there.... Sco! Please, a trio CD!! Cheers!
This is absolutely great! Sounds a bit like what John Scofield was doing 30 years ago (record Still Warm in 1986) with new and different aspects. I wish Scofield Mehldau Giuliana do more than just this concert tour together.
One of great things about Sco is that he never gets stuck on a square; he is always searching for new ways of expression and other bands to play with (who would guess that Mehldau would be playing with Giuliana?).
To down play Scofield in anyway is out. Jes a genius. His phrasing is perfection and grace. Brad wanted him there for a reason. He's no dummy. Are you listening to Sco's solo here. It's killing! The recording may not be the best. But Mehldau knew Wco was the perfect match for this group. My bold opinion.
Somehow I get the feeling that everything just sounds better without (or before) the addition of Scofield. First Medeski, Martin & Wood, now this. I mean, I don't want to criticise him, he's a great guitarist and knows his stuff, but theres a tendency for him to drop into bands that are already brilliant, such as Mehliana. Still a great concert of course!

What a petty they never recorded this master piece live or in studio properly. Saw them playing it in 2016 in San Sebastián Jazzaldia great moment :)

Plenty of Mehldau and Guiliana, but you can hardly hear Scofield. I guess that's the price we pay for unmixed bootlegs in this day and age.
It's probably the theater hall they're playing in. The acoustics are bad, but that's my opinion.
