I love that they put the german version of heros in it. David Bowie really recorded the song in german once because he wrote it in berlin. Just a nice touch
l love that too. And the song titles are relevant...I'm a Believer (there were so many believers and I guess Jojo was initially one of them)...Heros (at that time who are the real heroes? It's part of Jojo's journey to find out)

Taika Waititi walked one helluva tight rope to make this movie and was handily rewarded for his efforts by winning Best Adapted Screenplay
I had to drive for over 45 minutes to find a theater that was willing to show this movie. I own it and I love it

It is produduced by a Disney owned company, not Disney themselves. Kind of like how Disney don't broadcast sports but they ESPN does, Disney doesn't release dark comedies they own Fox Searchlight, who produced this film.

Interesting note, I showed this trailer to my German friend, [an actual German German living in germany], with a degree of trepidation, however, she thought it looked amazing and said “ omg I have to watch this movie it looks so funny”.

I have a friend whose parents’ relatives were all (ALL) murdered by Nazis. She has zero extended family. She could never watch this, and I think she’d have every right to be offended. Any humor around Hitler is just not at all funny to her, no matter the intention.I adore Waititi and I’ll end up seeing the movie, but lots of people will not see it, and yet think it’s ok to be “funny” re the topic. My brother is visibly Jewish walking down the street (fyi I’m not Jewish) and I worry for him a lot. Assholes saying “Jews are very sensitive” in this day when people are being targeted and killed everywhere but even IN THE US can really fuck. the. hell. off. A thousand times.

Hi Im Spy Appreciate that. Just two thoughts. Slavery was well over a hundred years ago, yet everything about America relates to it today, from social problems to our economy. It’s still a serious subject, treated pretty seriously in movies, even the ones with a lot of humor. The Holocaust was well under a hundred years ago, in fact recent enough that people alive today experienced it first hand. I’m sure there’s a lot to be said for this movie in the end, I really admire Waititi, as I said. But it may well be a step too far. The fact that someone on this thread who made an enormous racial slur then called me bigoted is proof we have real problems. Thanks for being understanding.
Yeah for like, native Germans, the accent isn't very harsh. I'm not a native German, but I took a class and it really was a trip to learns it's not as angry sounding as media makes it. Anyways, I'm stoked for the film! Love Taika's work

Good question. It's definitely a very delicate subject here but it's mixed feelings.
Personally I think it depends on the joke.
Jokes about the victims are (mostly) meh, while you can't make enough jokes about the ridiculous pathetic NS idiots so... depends.
