The second unaccounted for black & gold 350 H is in a private collection, in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The original owner of the collection passed away in the late 80's, and his son, as far as I know, still has it in storage.

*715 CFM Holley. Also, only 85 came with a manual trans. One such GT350H can be seen driven by James Garner in 'Grand Prix'.

I had a black one with Gold stripes. Mine was a replica, but it looked just like an original and was just missing the little Shelby placard. I hate that I sold it in the 90’s... looked exactly like this one wheels too. Hate it!!

These cars have a great pedigree and following. But, no one was afraid to race a GT350 back in the day(4 me the 70's).
A 327 equipped Chevy II, or 340 Swinger would and did smoke the Shelby in a street race.

I had a 73 Duster 340/4 speed. I loved that car. The 340 Dart/Duster/Demon was one of the best performance bargains of that era

This car was converted to 4 speed. All 85 manual 66 gt350h were raven black, rest of cars were C4 automatic. Sidenote: 1966 gt350 with 4 speed had 3.89 rear axle ratio, automatics had 3.50 rear. Limited slip was an option, all Hertz cars came with open diff. One way they dealt with aggressive brakes - put warning sticker on dash.

Well, it didn't take them 40 years - there were 224 1968 gt350 made for Hertz. Couple things incorrect with the car in video: all 1966 rent-a-racer' had 14" Magnum 500 wheels and exhaust ending with turndowns before rear bumper, not before rear axle.

If the Hertz cars had a carb with 300+ cfm less than the 710 cfm Shelby standard carb, how can they be rated at the same HP? Less flow has to mean less HP.

What about this urban legend '' Certain person rented this car and change the engine before returned it '' . True or untrue ?

stromeur M : Understand it Happened & Replaced Them W/ A Codes,225 h.p. Mtrs. Not Sure All the Later HERTZ'S WERE ALL HIGHER H.P.ENGS.AFTER A FEW GOT SWITCHED OUT WITH REG.289' S MIGHT HAVE BEEN REASON FOR THE 225 H.P.VERSIONS IN THE LATTER ONES,IF IT DID HAPPEN.

Why all the trouble? To end up with a 289 that was inferior to most performance small blocks going back then? Idunno.

17 bucks a day at a time when Motel 6 and the more expensive Super 8 Motel were charging what their name implies. How much was that two dollar difference worth? Enough to buy breakfast for a small family...

Nice restoration but there are some things not stock original on this car as others have already pointed out.
Hertz did offer 350H Shelby Mustangs in both 67 and 68, and I've heard talk of some 69's as well.
As far as I know the story of people renting the car and swapping the engine for a regular 4V-289 before returning the car is
    has never been proven, yet!

Only the 66 GT 350's were H cars. Hertz did have Shelby mustangs on the 67 and 68's. The 67 and 68's had no H markings on the cars.

the story I've always heard is people would swap the automatic out for a 4 speed and take it to the track before returning it with the automatic back in place...not sure how practical/possible that would be.
