Colonial Marines I can understand, but this iteration of AvP was really good, the shooting was solid, graphics were really nice and 'stylised' without being cartoony, the audio design is again, solid and faithful to the source material.. Yeah, I'm not sure what the hell people were expecting but it was a good game!
The hate is in comparison with the other previous games that played better etc. I think it's a solid title, but it does not overcome the predecessors. Although... the reviewer keep saying that the first one was better. It's bs, it was totally unbalanced both single and multiplayer. This one, seems to be the most balanced of them all.
I found the Alien campaign to be surprisingly compelling even though its so incredibly short. Mainly feels like theres alot of wasted potential. I especially feel the lab segments should have been significantly extended to flesh out the fact that specimen 6 is indeed a more intelligent xenomorph. Kinda like portal but with a biomechanical killing machine. Player completes puzzles and challenges to demonstrate its abilities while testing the facility for weaknesses so it can create an opportunity for escape later and return to the hive. There's alot of potential for a game like that, and the alien campaign could have done this, but strangely didnt. Just a whole lot of wasted potential in this game.
Kyros Droztamyr iirc they were experimenting on "6" because it appeared significantly smarter than the other ones as opposed to experimenting to make it more intelligent. iirc, In the intro "6" waited for the room to be opened before bursting out of it's human's chest.
Also Ben Hoodrich is correct about the alien. It was not *made* smarter, it was *already* smart. The tests were to see just how smart specimen 6 was. When it burst from the human's chest, it waited until they were out of view and then crawled back inside the human. Once the containment jars were pulled away and sealed, the researchers in the room noticed that specimen 6 was nowhere to be found. Specimen 6 remained hidden in the body of the host only until the researchers started to inspect it. It was at that point, specimen 6 realised he was going to be found, so he burst forth again but from the host's mouth and was likely going to make a run for it. But then the researcher in the observation room hit the 'freeze' button, killing the researchers inside the room and freezing specimen 6. Combat androids were then dispatched to retrieve and contain specimen 6. Just think about that. An *infant* animal was able to assess its situation, and formulated a plan to escape just after being born. THERE'S SO MUCH FUCKIN POTENTIAL FOR A GAME FROM THAT. But no, 1 level later and you escape because the power went out. Fuckin waste

I hated PvP in this.. everyone trying to get you from behind to pull an instant kill instead of fighting. just ends up with a chain kill by other players lol. Skirmish was hella fun tho
Ravathiel this is a game I always think about in regards to design. The special kills should have just been for the final killcam or something. This is a game you do better waiting for other players to fight.
Yep. This is what made the multiplayer so much worse than the first two games. They went for a console shooter button mashy experience with the press X to kill nonsense. It was fine in single player but just totally killed the flow of the multi. Though it was funny to watch Alien vs Predator congo line of different one's running up an backstabing each other.

I bought the PC version 2 days ago and played pvp a bit, I was always able to join an active server with 10+ people on it. (there is a difference in player hosted and dedicated servers, dedicated servers are still active) Also, the steam version is 5 EUR (including all DLC) on G2A
Agree that humans shouldn''t stand a chance in melee against an Alien, absolutely no way. The Aliens are described in the books as biomechanoid and strong enough to tear sheet metal.
I agree, although I get why they did it. It was clearly done for the sake of multiplayer balance. Otherwise Marines would get slaughtered everytime a Xenomorph closes the distance which will be often given how fast they are compared to the other 2 classes. But I do think this mechanic should have been exclusive to multiplayer at most.
i don't know why many people say this game iss't very good. For me this is the best avp game and overall an EXTREMELY enjoyable game high on my list of favourite games. the only thing i don't like is that the campaign is too short and that the multiplayer is almost dead, i'm making my pc next week and i'm starting playing this game for the 10th time probably.

I enjoyed it for what it was. Speaking to a friend of a friend who was one of the developers on the game, it seems Sega slashed the budge and pushed forward the release window, because ether knew the Colonial Marines was dragging, and they wanted to get an Aliens game out there (having paid quite a bit for the license). Stuff that was supposed to be included was either never built, or had to be dropped. So, if AvP 2010 was lacking, blame Randy Pitchford. (Mind you, I enjoyed Colonial Marines for what it was as well. But I'm a sucker for Aliens universe games).

I also wanted to let you know that you're one of the best reviewers on RUclips and I consistently love your content. I don't say that lightly and not trying to blow smoke up your ass so to speak. Other reviewers usually have an annoying 'tick' where they'll tell bad jokes or beat around the bush, or just complain about games for the sake of complaining (Like your friend Gggmanlives). I think that the game should be given a big discount for the fact that it was developed for only 2.5 years, which is very little, because AVP 1999 was made for almost 5 years. If anyone is interested, you can search the Internet for cut content in the game, I’ll just give a small part of what didn’t make it into the game -Cut out a crossbow from a Predator and also level 2 -The alien’s ability to play as a Pretarian was cut out, and the final level on the ship was also removed, it was made into a video -The Alien suffered the most, almost 70% of its content was cut out, including the ability to fully travel through the ventilation levels -The Marine’s introduction to the crew on the ship was cut out (Apparently it was planned to be a video or training) If you're willing to give this game a discount because it was rushed, then overall it's a good game.
I was surprised when he said he doesn't understand why they included melee attack for the marines. This move is very useful. It's difficult to pull off, but it's useful when done correctly. It takes 3 melee attacks to knock them off and get you enough time to reload. My god, the xenomorphs are difficult to kill. I'm glad they included a melee. When you lit the xenos on fire, you RUN. Problem solved. You don't sit like a duck and watch it. If I'm the alien on fire, I'd also get to you till my last breath. These decisions I think are some of the things that made the experience better. If it's too difficult and frustrating for you, then try playing 1990s cartridge games. I bet you'd kill yourself out of frustration trying to beat them and win. This game is great (in general) in my opinion.

Now that a lot of people on these video say that avp is still alive i might buy it, always loved the "watch everywhere" feeling. even when being a predator you still didnt felt so secure.
Yehp. To this day. Played it a couple weeks ago. 2-3 servers tend to be up with players. Sadly, there are some who just end up standing still to get XP or something.
I only played AVP2 and the expansion before this game I felt this was a letdown, yet still sunk so many hours into the multiplayer Many fond memories Thank you for this reminder
I think the whole thing with being able to knock back aliens as a marine is just for the purpose of giving you some fighting chance of surviving if an alien gets too close, otherwise there's really nothing you can do short of killing both the alien and yourself with its acid blood. Keep in mind, it's not as if you can kill the alien with a melee attack; the best you can do is hold it off for two or three seconds, often not enough time to reload. It's just for game balance.
This game will ALWAYS be in my collection, same for isolation. I remember my friend dreaded playing the marine campaign, kept trying to give me the controller lol. With the updated graphics and the nice lighting it really immerses you into the creepiness.

i loved this game to bits, my first ever game on the ps3 and i never understood the hate for it. It was my favourite game ever for a very long time. The nightclub mission for the marine campaign was undoubtedly the scariest

In AVP2010's defence, Marines cannot knock Xenomorphs over in higher difficulty settings such as Hard and Nightmare. In fact, NPC Xenos really cannot be knocked down at all, whether by a Marine or Predator player. Also, in higher difficulty settings, the game no longs prompts you which buttons to press in order to counter an enemy in combat so you will have to learn to read enemies' animations in order to make a counter-attack. Anyway, if you want a more immersive experience, you should for either Hard or Nightmare difficulty.
The finishing moves in multiplayer created some of the funniest conga lines! The most I was apart of was a 15 kill line. Great times minus the lack of no crouching.
Bought it at full price back then, got zero regrets! I think the lack of weps for the marines and preds was due to the kill animations which imo was the highlight of the game.
Multiplayer still works. I play it two days back. I have it on steam and everytime I go play avp multiplayer there are about 20 to 40 players. Good review
*This game has got to get a good sequel* edit: and I agree @ 3:59 , the alien felt so under-powered in this game. The devs must've been Predator fanboys or something lol. Additionally the MP suffered from balancing issues and a real lack of customization. The PvP boiled down to a meta of plasma casting, wall tailing, and shotgun blocking for all species respectively. You know what I'm talking about if you got good at the MP, which I did. I wish they would've added some sort of evolution system for the alien i.e. armor, claws, tail upgrades and maybe options to molt into higher breeds on the alien caste system at the sacrifice of other abilities. The marines and preds could've had something similar with their weapons, armor and tools. Maybe add species specific killstreaks like power loaders, queens, and exotic predator weapons. Point being is that they created some solid aspects of this game but it felt half baked and they basically abandoned it after launch. Reeeeeeeally hoping for a great sequel though. This franchise has so much potential from a gameplay standpoint.
I love this game but everyone else seems to hate it. I'm glad that you gave this game a fair chance. There are still people playing the multiplayer but not that many. When I try to play at night, all servers are empty but over the day there are at least 2 servers that are full. I really want a new AvP game, it's been 8 years now!
I loved this game. I wish the campaign was longer but that’s about it. I only got to the multiplayer when the population was ridiculously small. But when I found games they were fun as hell.
I did notice that the notification of the pummel for the marine shows up when the alien winds up a heavy attack aka when it´s least stable on it´s feet. it does makes sense to smack the fucker there because he´ll most likely fall over
Multiplayer is still alive on the PC, yes there are a few bugs in the game and the PNG can be high at times depending on where you are but it still enjoyable. There are different game modes on these servers but the most common one is the species team deathmatch. However, there is an unbalance when all three characters come together with the Marines being the weakest and the Aliens being the strongest, though Predators can be OP at times. But it's all about practising your skills and after each game you earn XPs to level up, and you can earn different skills for the characters which isn't that much other than just changing your appearance.
I have it on PC and xbox 360 and is a pretty good game imo, but, the multiplayer is so dead that I coudln't find any server with players, Campaign is pretty good tho, my favorite campaign was the marine and predator campaign, hope they could remaster this game on for this gen with new content, so people will start to play it once again.
@ The melee criticism : You know the marine in both previous games had a melee option right? Not exactly a new concept in this series. If you happen to be completely out of ammo, you would use the Pulse Rifle like a baseball bat. The second game straight up gives you a combat knife. At least in this game, it's replaced with a very useful Left 4 Dead-like knockback. A part of me is convinced that if the Marine DIDN'T have this mechanic, you would have criticized the game for being unfair in not including him within the new melee system, and then would have overlooked how bad Sprint is which could have made up for it if it lasted longer.
The main thing I disliked about multiplayer is that when you played as the preatorian skin, others can here the roar but not yourself which really bothered me.

If you had asked for Multiplayer players in the AvP2 video for this one, I would had gladly offered to play it. I disagree on that the story is bad, and I disagree vehemently on everyone who says that the game is bad because of some very poor reasons. But I will say that I agree with you on that it feels like it lacked passion. Some of the parts were really good and others were.. Not as good. The story to me, is most interesting and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I wish - hope, they'll make a follow-up to this with all the players going to Xenoprime next. So seeing as you've done AvP 1-3 now, I take it next up is either the Snes, the Atari Jaguar, the Game Boy game, any of the Alien 3 games, or C64 games like the two different Aliens versions, or even Alien, or Alien Isolation, or the Arcade games, or NDS Alien Infestation - Or Predator Concrete Jungle mayhaps? Also, on regards of memorable moments in AvP3 - The Predator vs Predalien fight, the song called "The Abomination" is fantastic. And in Aliens vs Predator 1 ( *2000 Classic, Original etc* ) do the following: - Complete the Alien Campaign in Director's Cut to unlock all the Bonus stages. - Complete the Bonus Stage " Invasion " - Now, exit the game and start the game with the command line to enable cheats ingame ( _I forgot what it was but, google_ ) - Make sure you turn yourself Immortal. - Run to the Marine Starting area and spawn a lot of MARINEBOT .They'll probably end up killing themselves but, trust me. - Run to the Predator starting area and spawn exactly 1 PREDATORBOT. - Now run back to where you started ( _Alien start_ ) and looking into the vent, spawn like, 10 or more alien bots and maybe some Predalien bots. - Likewise spawn some by the ladder near the vent. - Wait 5 min or so, do dishes, bathroom break etc. - Now, explore the level and watch the havoc. Aliens, will jump into fans and acid blood will spew all over anyone unfortunate enough to stand there. Marines, will explore the level slowly upwards and get panicked and die at just about every moment. And when you see him, the Predator, can be almost ANYWHERE randomly as he will run around the entire stage, hunting both aliens and marines alike. It's truly amazing and never ceases to impress me.
All I can say about multiplayer is that there's deathmatch, TDM, species TD, predator hunt, infestation and domination. I'm my opinion the team's seems unbalanced in the deathmatchs because players kept being predators then camp most of the time, aliens are average against the 2 species depending on the player except when they attack while on the wall that's annoying but the marines are mostly unused because of how underpowered they are. Predator hunt and infestation were fun at the time where it requires thinking of how to take out your preys and survive and domination is a bit like TDM. Fun to play some time but annoying when you encounter campers and walk attackers. There's ranked and friendly matches where in friendly you get full control on what mode, match and in DM which species should be in there and you can start anytime. Ranked is random so it can be any modes and area and unfortunately it requires a certain amount of players to start the game might be why players choose friendly over ranked. Trophies/achievements is now near impossible to get in multiplayer so you need a lot of friends to get them all so unless you can get about 6 people to help you, best not get the unachievable ones due to the lack of players.
Humans can knock back aliens. There is nothing in the cannon that says xenomorphs are stronger than humans. What makes xenomorphs so dangerous is them sneaking up on their prey. If they just run up to someone, then they're gonna get their ass handed to them some of the time. This is easily the best AvP game to date.
I don't think it's about strength, I think it's more about Xenos being able kill humans at close range instantly whether it be via head bite or with their tail among other ways. Smacking them around like that is just ridiculous to me. Same with shoving off Facehuggers. Marine or no Marine, it took 3 Marines to get a Facehugger off Ripley. The Facehugger's tail will wrap itself around a human's neck. So shoving it away with one hand like that is questionable.
Good review. I played this game a few years back and found it, alright. The pieces are there for a great game, but like you said, it all feels a bit slapped together and lacks passion, at least the prior two games rectify this. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on Colonial Marines. I met Michael Biehn last month at a convention and when I asked him about how he got involved with Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, he explained that when he was first asked to play Rex, he was a little hesitant to voice the character after his experience working on Colonial Marines.

I remember playing the multiplayer for this game on the Xbox 360. To me, it was the best thing in the world. I think the way you have to fight in multiplayer is much more different than the way you fight in the campaign. Not saying it's the best, but it is certainly one of my favorite multiplayer games. Just watching the executions as a Xeno and Predator was good enough, you can understand why people would just try to do that instead of attacking upfront. I mean, isn't that the point? It breaks my heart to see something like this get hate because it's really not bad at all, it might be a little late for a 2018 version so I'm going to have my fingers crossed for the future. ;D

Imagine if rebellion had been given the aliens colonial marines project instead of gearbox. This game played better and looks better than colonial marines. And it was released 3 years prior!!! Whilst the dialog maybe not amazing it's a masterpiece in comparison
I think people stopped complaining about this game when Colonial Marines came out. The alien movement in this vs. the crappy colonial marines is night and day. But your criticisms on this game is correct.
AvP 2 was definitely the best game of the series. Better story, superior multiplayer, and all around more fun. I wish it would come to steam cause it just does not want to play for win 10 or any compatibility settings
@14:06 Couldn't find any games? Didn't you say you played the PC version? I've been playing online for the past few days... You need to search for servers that are: 1. Dedicated Internet, and 2. Player Hosted I was playing Species Team Death Match. There's usually one server with enough people to have a good match, and you can also install and run your own dedicated server if you have the means to do so.
+Gaming Pastime yes you can find multiplayer gamer but you'll need to change the search criteria to... I think it was dedicated internet!?... Anyway not very many players around and those that are are usually pretty good but sadly a bit of them are kind of toxic.
What I know is that the Alien has never looked better. MAke a Remake of AvP 2 with the graphics of AvP 2010 and you have completed a good game to 3/4. The rest is a good Combat System. Unique to each Race. Oh and btw. I think the first game sucks. What else than running around and kill everything is there? I have played it a bit and I haven't found any Story at all. So I prefer this game and AvP2 over Classic any day.

The multiplayer was the best part about it. It was pretty balanced. The marines were a bit overpowered maybe, but overall the multiplayer was just fantastic from what I remember. Knocking back aliens was really important to balance the multiplayer so I disagree with you on that point. The unfortunate thing about these new reviews is that people can't experience the actual multiplayer when it was populated inside matchmaking. It was truly just a better version of the old games imo
Why would you crouch in this game? I really don't like when reviewers nitpick the lack of things that aren't necessary. The environments weren't made for a chest-high wall combat. You don't need to crouch. You don't need an iron sights view, which was also criticized at the time. Being able to crouch for the sake of it would be just stupid, it would add nothing and you would say that why even bother with it if you didn't make any scenarios to use it. It's like bashing Left 4 Dead for not having iron sights or crouching. The game is very good, it has a distinct art style that holds up incredibly well, and while it is too short, it's also basically a low-budget title, and it's amazing what they've done with it considering it wasn't an AAA game.

exactly, the PvP was 2D and had no customization to keep you coming back. Plus it was broken and unbalanced as hell.

I played the marine portion on Acid, and man it felt like the most immersive experience I had in a video game.

For me this is the best avp game and overall an EXTREMELY enjoyable game high on my list of favourite games. the only thing i don't like is that the campaign is too short and that the multiplayer is almost dead, i'm making my pc next week and i'm starting playing this game for the 10th time probably.

@PerrySport Wtf are you talking about? A game can't be good if it has a relatively short campaign and no multiplayer? I mean it's not "the best", but it has a lot going for it regardless.
I enjoyed it for what it was. Speaking to a friend of a friend who was one of the developers on the game, it seems Sega slashed the budge and pushed forward the release window, because ether knew the Colonial Marines was dragging, and they wanted to get an Aliens game out there (having paid quite a bit for the license). Stuff that was supposed to be included was either never built, or had to be dropped. So, if AvP 2010 was lacking, blame Randy Pitchford.
(Mind you, I enjoyed Colonial Marines for what it was as well. But I'm a sucker for Aliens universe games).

I also wanted to let you know that you're one of the best reviewers on RUclips and I consistently love your content. I don't say that lightly and not trying to blow smoke up your ass so to speak.
Other reviewers usually have an annoying 'tick' where they'll tell bad jokes or beat around the bush, or just complain about games for the sake of complaining (Like your friend Gggmanlives). Looking forward to anything you do in the future!
Honestly this game is a classic for me
I think that the game should be given a big discount for the fact that it was developed for only 2.5 years, which is very little, because AVP 1999 was made for almost 5 years.
If anyone is interested, you can search the Internet for cut content in the game, I’ll just give a small part of what didn’t make it into the game
-Cut out a crossbow from a Predator and also level 2
-The alien’s ability to play as a Pretarian was cut out, and the final level on the ship was also removed, it was made into a video
-The Alien suffered the most, almost 70% of its content was cut out, including the ability to fully travel through the ventilation levels
-The Marine’s introduction to the crew on the ship was cut out (Apparently it was planned to be a video or training)
If you're willing to give this game a discount because it was rushed, then overall it's a good game.
I was terrified of the marine campaign because of the predator noise at the start.
I was surprised when he said he doesn't understand why they included melee attack for the marines. This move is very useful. It's difficult to pull off, but it's useful when done correctly. It takes 3 melee attacks to knock them off and get you enough time to reload. My god, the xenomorphs are difficult to kill. I'm glad they included a melee.
When you lit the xenos on fire, you RUN. Problem solved. You don't sit like a duck and watch it. If I'm the alien on fire, I'd also get to you till my last breath. These decisions I think are some of the things that made the experience better. If it's too difficult and frustrating for you, then try playing 1990s cartridge games. I bet you'd kill yourself out of frustration trying to beat them and win.
This game is great (in general) in my opinion.

Now that a lot of people on these video say that avp is still alive i might buy it, always loved the "watch everywhere" feeling. even when being a predator you still didnt felt so secure.
Yehp. To this day. Played it a couple weeks ago. 2-3 servers tend to be up with players. Sadly, there are some who just end up standing still to get XP or something.

I think the whole thing with being able to knock back aliens as a marine is just for the purpose of giving you some fighting chance of surviving if an alien gets too close, otherwise there's really nothing you can do short of killing both the alien and yourself with its acid blood. Keep in mind, it's not as if you can kill the alien with a melee attack; the best you can do is hold it off for two or three seconds, often not enough time to reload. It's just for game balance.
This game will ALWAYS be in my collection, same for isolation. I remember my friend dreaded playing the marine campaign, kept trying to give me the controller lol. With the updated graphics and the nice lighting it really immerses you into the creepiness.
so how do we get a kickstarter going for a new AVP game? (minimum 8 hour campaign each race!) it think its been long enough and that new unreal engine is really good i hear
i loved this game to bits, my first ever game on the ps3 and i never understood the hate for it. It was my favourite game ever for a very long time. The nightclub mission for the marine campaign was undoubtedly the scariest

I didn't know how often I could get energy for other predator weapons. So I just stealth'd it through.

In AVP2010's defence, Marines cannot knock Xenomorphs over in higher difficulty settings such as Hard and Nightmare. In fact, NPC Xenos really cannot be knocked down at all, whether by a Marine or Predator player. Also, in higher difficulty settings, the game no longs prompts you which buttons to press in order to counter an enemy in combat so you will have to learn to read enemies' animations in order to make a counter-attack. Anyway, if you want a more immersive experience, you should for either Hard or Nightmare difficulty.
The finishing moves in multiplayer created some of the funniest conga lines! The most I was apart of was a 15 kill line. Great times minus the lack of no crouching.

Bought it at full price back then, got zero regrets! I think the lack of weps for the marines and preds was due to the kill animations which imo was the highlight of the game.
I have just finished the Marine campaign in AVP 2 and OMG what an amazing game. It has the look and feels just like the movie Aliens.
Multiplayer still works. I play it two days back. I have it on steam and everytime I go play avp multiplayer there are about 20 to 40 players. Good review
AVP 2 is for me the best game of all the AVP games.

edit: and I agree @ 3:59 , the alien felt so under-powered in this game. The devs must've been Predator fanboys or something lol.
Additionally the MP suffered from balancing issues and a real lack of customization. The PvP boiled down to a meta of plasma casting, wall tailing, and shotgun blocking for all species respectively. You know what I'm talking about if you got good at the MP, which I did. I wish they would've added some sort of evolution system for the alien i.e. armor, claws, tail upgrades and maybe options to molt into higher breeds on the alien caste system at the sacrifice of other abilities. The marines and preds could've had something similar with their weapons, armor and tools. Maybe add species specific killstreaks like power loaders, queens, and exotic predator weapons.
Point being is that they created some solid aspects of this game but it felt half baked and they basically abandoned it after launch.
Reeeeeeeally hoping for a great sequel though. This franchise has so much potential from a gameplay standpoint.

When I try to play at night, all servers are empty but over the day there are at least 2 servers that are full.

I loved this game. I wish the campaign was longer but that’s about it. I only got to the multiplayer when the population was ridiculously small. But when I found games they were fun as hell.
The multiplayer was where this game shined. Might not have been perfectly balanced, but damn, it was fun AF. Some of the best MP memories I have.

I did notice that the notification of the pummel for the marine shows up when the alien winds up a heavy attack aka when it´s least stable on it´s feet. it does makes sense to smack the fucker there because he´ll most likely fall over
Multiplayer is still alive on the PC, yes there are a few bugs in the game and the PNG can be high at times depending on where you are but it still enjoyable. There are different game modes on these servers but the most common one is the species team deathmatch. However, there is an unbalance when all three characters come together with the Marines being the weakest and the Aliens being the strongest, though Predators can be OP at times. But it's all about practising your skills and after each game you earn XPs to level up, and you can earn different skills for the characters which isn't that much other than just changing your appearance.
I bought AVP in the steam summer sale and It runs smoothly but i get stuttering every 20 seconds or so, anyone know a fix or anything?

I have it on PC and xbox 360 and is a pretty good game imo, but, the multiplayer is so dead that I coudln't find any server with players, Campaign is pretty good tho, my favorite campaign was the marine and predator campaign, hope they could remaster this game on for this gen with new content, so people will start to play it once again.

I played the multi player when it was active, a lot of matches were all alien matches and it was fun but basically only played one map
@ The melee criticism : You know the marine in both previous games had a melee option right? Not exactly a new concept in this series. If you happen to be completely out of ammo, you would use the Pulse Rifle like a baseball bat. The second game straight up gives you a combat knife. At least in this game, it's replaced with a very useful Left 4 Dead-like knockback. A part of me is convinced that if the Marine DIDN'T have this mechanic, you would have criticized the game for being unfair in not including him within the new melee system, and then would have overlooked how bad Sprint is which could have made up for it if it lasted longer.
The main thing I disliked about multiplayer is that when you played as the preatorian skin, others can here the roar but not yourself which really bothered me.

If you had asked for Multiplayer players in the AvP2 video for this one, I would had gladly offered to play it.
I disagree on that the story is bad, and I disagree vehemently on everyone who says that the game is bad because of some very poor reasons.
But I will say that I agree with you on that it feels like it lacked passion. Some of the parts were really good and others were.. Not as good.
The story to me, is most interesting and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I wish - hope, they'll make a follow-up to this with all the players going to Xenoprime next.
So seeing as you've done AvP 1-3 now, I take it next up is either the Snes, the Atari Jaguar, the Game Boy game, any of the Alien 3 games, or C64 games like the two different Aliens versions, or even Alien, or Alien Isolation, or the Arcade games, or NDS Alien Infestation - Or Predator Concrete Jungle mayhaps?
Also, on regards of memorable moments in AvP3 - The Predator vs Predalien fight, the song called "The Abomination" is fantastic.
And in Aliens vs Predator 1 ( *2000 Classic, Original etc* ) do the following:
- Complete the Alien Campaign in Director's Cut to unlock all the Bonus stages.
- Complete the Bonus Stage " Invasion "
- Now, exit the game and start the game with the command line to enable cheats ingame ( _I forgot what it was but, google_ )
- Make sure you turn yourself Immortal.
- Run to the Marine Starting area and spawn a lot of MARINEBOT .They'll probably end up killing themselves but, trust me.
- Run to the Predator starting area and spawn exactly 1 PREDATORBOT.
- Now run back to where you started ( _Alien start_ ) and looking into the vent, spawn like, 10 or more alien bots and maybe some Predalien bots.
- Likewise spawn some by the ladder near the vent.
- Wait 5 min or so, do dishes, bathroom break etc.
- Now, explore the level and watch the havoc. Aliens, will jump into fans and acid blood will spew all over anyone unfortunate enough to stand there. Marines, will explore the level slowly upwards and get panicked and die at just about every moment. And when you see him, the Predator, can be almost ANYWHERE randomly as he will run around the entire stage, hunting both aliens and marines alike.
It's truly amazing and never ceases to impress me.
Colonial Marines and Concrete Jungle. We would need a solid way to record DS games before we can do Infestation. We're investigating.

All I can say about multiplayer is that there's deathmatch, TDM, species TD, predator hunt, infestation and domination.
I'm my opinion the team's seems unbalanced in the deathmatchs because players kept being predators then camp most of the time, aliens are average against the 2 species depending on the player except when they attack while on the wall that's annoying but the marines are mostly unused because of how underpowered they are. Predator hunt and infestation were fun at the time where it requires thinking of how to take out your preys and survive and domination is a bit like TDM. Fun to play some time but annoying when you encounter campers and walk attackers.
There's ranked and friendly matches where in friendly you get full control on what mode, match and in DM which species should be in there and you can start anytime. Ranked is random so it can be any modes and area and unfortunately it requires a certain amount of players to start the game might be why players choose friendly over ranked.
Trophies/achievements is now near impossible to get in multiplayer so you need a lot of friends to get them all so unless you can get about 6 people to help you, best not get the unachievable ones due to the lack of players.

Humans can knock back aliens. There is nothing in the cannon that says xenomorphs are stronger than humans. What makes xenomorphs so dangerous is them sneaking up on their prey. If they just run up to someone, then they're gonna get their ass handed to them some of the time. This is easily the best AvP game to date.
I don't think it's about strength, I think it's more about Xenos being able kill humans at close range instantly whether it be via head bite or with their tail among other ways. Smacking them around like that is just ridiculous to me.
Same with shoving off Facehuggers. Marine or no Marine, it took 3 Marines to get a Facehugger off Ripley. The Facehugger's tail will wrap itself around a human's neck. So shoving it away with one hand like that is questionable.
Good review. I played this game a few years back and found it, alright. The pieces are there for a great game, but like you said, it all feels a bit slapped together and lacks passion, at least the prior two games rectify this.
I'm curious to hear your thoughts on Colonial Marines. I met Michael Biehn last month at a convention and when I asked him about how he got involved with Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, he explained that when he was first asked to play Rex, he was a little hesitant to voice the character after his experience working on Colonial Marines.
Yeah, I love Mike and I read somewhere that he wasn't too thrilled with his experience on ACM.

I remember playing the multiplayer for this game on the Xbox 360. To me, it was the best thing in the world. I think the way you have to fight in multiplayer is much more different than the way you fight in the campaign. Not saying it's the best, but it is certainly one of my favorite multiplayer games. Just watching the executions as a Xeno and Predator was good enough, you can understand why people would just try to do that instead of attacking upfront. I mean, isn't that the point? It breaks my heart to see something like this get hate because it's really not bad at all, it might be a little late for a 2018 version so I'm going to have my fingers crossed for the future. ;D

Great Review, Multiplayer is still alive, all you had to do is go to Dedicated Servers and Find Lobbies.

I also like this game and thought it was worth paying for. They did a good job with the sound effects and it paid off with the intensity factor.
Imagine if rebellion had been given the aliens colonial marines project instead of gearbox.
This game played better and looks better than colonial marines. And it was released 3 years prior!!!

I think people stopped complaining about this game when Colonial Marines came out. The alien movement in this vs. the crappy colonial marines is night and day. But your criticisms on this game is correct.
The game really could do with some mod love. There is a great game begging to be set free here. :)
Rebellion needs to just do a graphic overhaul/update of the original game and amend any issues with the gameplay, if there even are any...

AvP 2 was definitely the best game of the series. Better story, superior multiplayer, and all around more fun. I wish it would come to steam cause it just does not want to play for win 10 or any compatibility settings
I think the game would have been better if they focused mainly on the Marine and Predator because the Alien is just a mob at this point.

1. Dedicated Internet, and
2. Player Hosted
I was playing Species Team Death Match. There's usually one server with enough people to have a good match, and you can also install and run your own dedicated server if you have the means to do so.
+Gaming Pastime yes you can find multiplayer gamer but you'll need to change the search criteria to... I think it was dedicated internet!?... Anyway not very many players around and those that are are usually pretty good but sadly a bit of them are kind of toxic.
Is a good game but it could use some mods to make it awesome, I had my fun with it back when it launched.
What I know is that the Alien has never looked better. MAke a Remake of AvP 2 with the graphics of AvP 2010 and you have completed a good game to 3/4. The rest is a good Combat System. Unique to each Race.
Oh and btw. I think the first game sucks. What else than running around and kill everything is there? I have played it a bit and I haven't found any Story at all. So I prefer this game and AvP2 over Classic any day.

No, a AvP2 remake in the Cryengine would be awesome! A dude remaked the first marine level from 1999 AvP game with the Cryengine and it's looking awesome!

I feel like no-one remembers the AVP RTS on Playstation 2. I really liked it.
I was lucky enough to play this on ps3 so i was able to play multiplayer and bug hunt was the most fun
The multiplayer was the best part about it. It was pretty balanced. The marines were a bit overpowered maybe, but overall the multiplayer was just fantastic from what I remember. Knocking back aliens was really important to balance the multiplayer so I disagree with you on that point. The unfortunate thing about these new reviews is that people can't experience the actual multiplayer when it was populated inside matchmaking. It was truly just a better version of the old games imo
Why would you crouch in this game? I really don't like when reviewers nitpick the lack of things that aren't necessary. The environments weren't made for a chest-high wall combat. You don't need to crouch. You don't need an iron sights view, which was also criticized at the time. Being able to crouch for the sake of it would be just stupid, it would add nothing and you would say that why even bother with it if you didn't make any scenarios to use it. It's like bashing Left 4 Dead for not having iron sights or crouching.
The game is very good, it has a distinct art style that holds up incredibly well, and while it is too short, it's also basically a low-budget title, and it's amazing what they've done with it considering it wasn't an AAA game.
I just hope that with the new predator movie a new game is released
