I have no goddamn idea why anybody says that the alien campaign is "disorienting" climbing on walls and switching from place to wall to wall doesn't faze me. I mean I can see if you get motion sickness but cmon can it really get so bad to say that that's the worst campaign?
There are some issues with when you sprint and end up going from wall to ceiling to wall and you ended up spinning somehow. that's when it gets disorienting, add jumping into the mix and you could end up not knowing where you are sometimes.
I still prefer AvP2 from 2001. Even with it's massively out-dated graphics, I have a lot more fun playing that one, as opposed to the '99 release or this reboot.
I met most of my psn friends on the demo for this game! so many fond memories of fucking around in multiplayer with them and pretending to hear a rogue ai predator that would kill us off randomly (started as me hearing the ambient sounds and some of us being killed by a bug rarely, became super fun to freak out the uninitiated lol) Those were the days :) alien campaign was my favorite
The worst thing I remember about this game (besides the actual game itself) was a glitch in the aliens campaign where the game would blackscreen and freeze at the end of the 2nd or 3rd level and if you restarted the game and clicked continue it'd start on the level it was supposed to. Man this game was a total bin fire
One of the most underrated multiplayer games ever. The 3 different teams is such a cool concept. Aliens vs humans vs predators. All of them play very distinctly and fun. Awesome maps. Ugh I miss this game
Still waiting on a good stealth-based Alien or Predator game that has the gameplay mechanics of OG Splinter Cell or Manhunt. Doubt it will ever happen, but I can dream.
The old 90s pc Alien v Pred, should be brought back and put out on Console (that game had all the sounds of Pred, and the Alien movie 1 & 2.) Best Alien and/or Pred game ever made! As well as it's sequel AvP2.
Imagine if they Monolith and Creative Assembly who did Alien Isolation, make the next Avp Game...oh boy it would be INSANE but sadly this wont happen. SEGA for some reason always makes poor decision in picking studios for AvP games.
Hey, it’s a boot! Yeah, great game. So many other good ideas out there too: the first avp comic set on ryushi, a predator no mans sky sandbox where you earn trophies and gear, a predator: isolation...
Actually to semi-counter that "melee is stupid against Aliens" bit, I think it's alright as it's not as if you can melee the aliens to death, they take forever to kill with melee attacks just on easy mode as the marine, so I think it's fine that you can just knock them back to give yourself a little room.
I love this game, and it has an average 9/10 rating on Steam so I know I'm not alone. If the multiplayer community was larger, I would play this daily. The game is EXTREMELY well optimized for PC, even old, shit PC's can run this game just fine as it has VERY low requirements for what it is. The single player is great, the multiplayer is godly. If you can get lucky and find a natural game, that's one thing, but I usually have to plan them out with friends. All in, I love this game and still play it for the multiplayer. It's a timeless classic that I never get bored of.
This was lovely game when they launch it. I loved it so much that i was so pissed because it was to damn short. Damn they invest few years in development. If any of campaigns was like 6-8 hours in length that would be top notch but sadly it wasnt :( I also enjoyed playing as predator.
A thing they could have add with the harvesting in the Alien Campaign was to have other aliens you could call in for help later on or have the hive expand over the floor and walls, enchaning your hiding and/or regenative capabilities. Maby that was even the intention, but since the campaign is so short, they left it out as it wouldn't really matter. You know, nowadays this game would proably work better episodic. Splitting of the campaigns so they'd have enough time to flesh each one out.
This game is awesome, I don't know if I would have bought it full price, but it's only $15 on steam i think, less if it's on sale. I think it's TOTALLY worth it, as I had an good amount of fun. The no crouching thing isn't a big deal to me, as it's not really a big deal in an corridor shooter. If it had more emphasis on exploration, yeah crouching is cool, but in linear shooters, going through vent shafts and under debris is basically padding, and useless. I don't hate corridor shooters as much as most people though. I mean sometimes you want something like doom or half-life where you get rewarded for exploration and checking everywhere, and sometimes you just want to play an straightforward game an shoot a motherfucker.
I loved this game.... Really enjoyed it. I really enjoyed the Predator campaign as well. For sure it would’ve been good if the marine had got a Crouch option, and deployable sentry gun turrets. And I also found the game to be surprisingly polished, like you said the aliens were surprisingly well animated and move from surface to surface with ease, with their animations gracefully transitioning. To date I’d say a AVP and alien isolation are the best video games we’ve seen of the source material.
I honestly really loved this game and really did...feeeeel like a predator or an alien while playing. I thought the gameplay was actually decent although situations usually play out exactly the same every time (like take out A soldier then B soldier then C soldier etc) but still...maybe I’m biased because I love the franchises but I do acknowledge and agree with most pointed out flaws. Didn’t stop me from playing through each campaign like 4 times 🤙🏼
This game was amazing, and I loved the online, how an entire server of alien and Predators created massive kongalines of backstab grabs on eachother was hilarious.
I really love this game because it especially the marine because the other 2 campaign you have unique abilities and with marine you are just on your own capturing the fear especially with the predator stalking you at least this is better than colonial marines. And one thing i was surprised that people hate is the gore but i found it intresting including in the multiplayer that you see your fate instead cutting to black. I wish there is a sequal to tie up all plot points
I am not sure what everyone is complaining about, I have replayed this about 3 times over a few years when I want my AVP fix. I like the Predator section in particular.
I prefer the fact it takes more hits to kill xenomorphs. In Alien, the xenomorph was portrayed to be almost invincible. I think this is the right way to go for lore, rather than xenos dying to a few shots in Aliens.
I've completed the game all campaigns on nightmare difficulty and some of the things the man said were untrue. Blocking then using melee as a marine to stun the aliens for a easy head shot is a highly effective defense from them. If the aliens rare back you dont block you just melee very simple win button.
8 years later this video is still heavily accurate, i agree with everything you said tbh. Really is a shame about the multiplayer, because if eel like that had the most potential out of anything else in that game
I found out the multiplayer for this isn't all dead, actually. You just have to use the dedicated servers. Instead of trying "quick match" in ranked or searching for player hosted games, browse for "dedicated server (internet)" and you will always find at least a few people online.
I've thought about buying this, I bought the original AVP way back when, but these games are just, well, nerve wracking to me, I never seem to be able to finish it. Really looking forward to Alien Isolation though XD hope it comes with new underwear LOL Excellent review!
My favorite campaign is the Predator campaign. It's the best version we'll probably ever get. The diversity of stealth and OP abilities makes it one of the more unique FPS campaigns ever made. Marine is standard shoot 'em up. Alien is standard stealth. Both good, but nowhere near the level of Predator's awesomeness.
I was 10 years old when my dad got me a good gaming PC (to spite my technophobic mom) and this was the game that came with my graphics card. I thought it was pretty good
It took me a year to find this game, and when I played it I thought it was decent, but it was like one of those games that you play the entire campaign one time and never touch it again.
The worst part of the Marine campaign that was not mentioned in the review is that your uncanny ability to STOP A FACEHUGGER WITH ONE OF YOUR BARE HANDS. Killed ALL the tension that made AVP 1999 for me. I couldn't even finish AVP 1999's marine campaign because of that. Gave me nonstop nightmares. Other than that, ok game. Predator rules.
This was my first AvP game ever so I loved the game entirely (multiplayer is where its at). I recently bought AvP Classic 2000, while the multiplayer is really fun and so is its Aliens survival mode, the campaign is really hard to progress through. Such a shame I had to look at the walkthroughs just to beat the game. But i'm going to see if i can get AvP2 at a pawn shop since it isn't on Steam.
I was playing this yesterday, that scene near the start when the dance music kicks in in the club (or whatever its called) and the aliens start swarming you and your ripping them with the pulse rifle is fucking quality. I literally had goosebumps and was so fucking happy with that scene. I don't think there's any more dance music afaia but it matches so well with aliens running at you across ceilings and walls and sheeeiiit.
Explain to me how a crouch button would assist the marine in anyway. Aliens and predators can always easily see you and aiming as a marine isn't dependent on you being stationary. (in act you're most likely to die that way.) Crouch is meant for stealth and that is not the marine's bag. (and am I seriously the only person in the planet that likes the pulse rifle in this game?...Would have helped if you aimed a bit better...just saying)Plus the Marine campaign is the only one that gives you a sense of tension and vulnerability .
Combat against the Synthetics for instance, to make cover more useful. It's probably the only FPS game I can think of that doesn't have a crouch button. It's like not including a jump button, it's odd.
I can see the argument and now I'm genuinely trying to think of a fps that din't have crouch and I'm drawing a blank. Still I think the lack of a crouch doesn't hurt mainly cause you start fighting synths a little pass the half way point and by then you're pretty well stocked on explosives or sniper rounds (but this is me assuming everyone keeps the sniper handy) I do have to admit it's bullshit that the game changes your loadout every level but again I actually rather like the Pulse rifle in this game.
I remember Back in the Day, I played this Online as a Marine Vs like 4 Xenos the environment, lighting and music was perfect.. I laid waste to a couple of em until one snuck behind me up in the ceiling and spammed the Tail Stabby attack..
I enjoyed the game. I heard they had trouble with Sega the publisher. They likely would’ve added more polish had they had the funds. But that’s many games I suppose
Multiplayer was great until all alien players started to abuse "ambush stun" tactic. Atleast they had dedicated servers but playing just "Team Death Match" aint gona work. Should have been "Domination" or "capture point" to force all races to keep moving.
Gggmanlives The only thing I find annoying about it is the way you have to cast spells. The runes just won't register when I try to draw them. Always have to draw them almost perfect.
Yeah I read on GOG that there's a problem with new operating systems and spells, like they don't register properly because of newer monitors or something. Honestly though, not the best game but the atmosphere is pretty amazing. It's basically a crappier version of Dark Messiah imo
i actually really enjoyed this game it was also one of my fav games on ps3 although id rather it on pc now the predator and alien combat was fun too the predators spear was awesome

I have no goddamn idea why anybody says that the alien campaign is "disorienting" climbing on walls and switching from place to wall to wall doesn't faze me. I mean I can see if you get motion sickness but cmon can it really get so bad to say that that's the worst campaign?
Ikr? It was super fun for me.
There are some issues with when you sprint and end up going from wall to ceiling to wall and you ended up spinning somehow. that's when it gets disorienting, add jumping into the mix and you could end up not knowing where you are sometimes.
I still prefer AvP2 from 2001. Even with it's massively out-dated graphics, I have a lot more fun playing that one, as opposed to the '99 release or this reboot.
well colonial marines showed just how bad an aliens game can be, makes this game look absolutely amazing.
I'm probably in the minority here but I really loved the Marine campaign. I dug the Horror vibes it gave off and it had me on edge for the most part 😁
Whats your take on Alien Isolation ? :D So far its my game of the year 2014, I am serious :]
Um, I reviewed it...so check that out. I am inclined to agree with you, at least for FPS games anyway.
It's a great game but it PISSES ME OFF HOW I CAN'T KILL THE ALIEN
I hate how I wasted my money on this game >:(. I can't refund.
@@Gggmanlives Rebellion created alien vs predator way back in 1994 on atari jaguar.
Alien versus Predator 2 by monolith is the best.
That is true. I simply loved that game!
Imagine if they Monolith and Creative Assembly who did Alien Isolation, make the next Avp Game...oh boy it would be INSANE but sadly this wont happen.
SEGA for some reason always makes poor decision in picking studios for AvP games.
So does anyone know where to get a copy. Non disc. I wanna play so badly but it’s not on digital stores. Anyone know any good emulators
Hey, it’s a boot! Yeah, great game. So many other good ideas out there too: the first avp comic set on ryushi, a predator no mans sky sandbox where you earn trophies and gear, a predator: isolation...
AVP2 is dated as hell, thats just your nostalgia talking
If any of campaigns was like 6-8 hours in length that would be top notch but sadly it wasnt :(
I also enjoyed playing as predator.
Yes! I've been looking forward for this review since i started watching your channel.
Also, Half life and Expansions Review? (pls)
Yeah I'm going to do a halflife video this year for its 10 year anniversary.
Just bought this on Steam for £2.00.
Let that sink in for a while.
Bought this game on Steam because of your review.
Cool now only the Jaguar AVP is missing a review :P
this game was pretty rock solid for me,didn't have many complains
I honestly really loved this game and really did...feeeeel like a predator or an alien while playing. I thought the gameplay was actually decent although situations usually play out exactly the same every time (like take out A soldier then B soldier then C soldier etc) but still...maybe I’m biased because I love the franchises but I do acknowledge and agree with most pointed out flaws. Didn’t stop me from playing through each campaign like 4 times 🤙🏼
This game was amazing, and I loved the online, how an entire server of alien and Predators created massive kongalines of backstab grabs on eachother was hilarious.
Loved this game. Stealth for the Predator and Alien, just survive as a Marine. Tons of fun.
I loved this game coz it was the first AVP game I played and I can remember playing as the predator
and feeling like an unstoppable monster.
I liked this game when it first came out. Nothing groundbreaking but just some good fun playing the 3 "races".
I loved aliens vs predator 2010. Played it at a weird arcade and loved it so much I went out to buy it. Loved it to pieces.
Frankly, this game was really fucking fun, and i don't care if anyone tries to tell me otherwise.
This game was great, loved the Alien storyline
theres still people playing the multiplayer although the most ive seen is one full server of 10 people
I really like your style of reviewing games. Keep up the good work!
I found out the multiplayer for this isn't all dead, actually. You just have to use the dedicated servers. Instead of trying "quick match" in ranked or searching for player hosted games, browse for "dedicated server (internet)" and you will always find at least a few people online.
Avp2 was the best with a great story line for each species and a rough, though awesome mp.
I've thought about buying this, I bought the original AVP way back when, but these games are just, well, nerve wracking to me, I never seem to be able to finish it. Really looking forward to Alien Isolation though XD hope it comes with new underwear LOL Excellent review!
"The pulse rifle feels under-powered."
....said he as he one shotted a xeno with a grenade from the pulse rifle
My favorite campaign is the Predator campaign. It's the best version we'll probably ever get. The diversity of stealth and OP abilities makes it one of the more unique FPS campaigns ever made. Marine is standard shoot 'em up. Alien is standard stealth. Both good, but nowhere near the level of Predator's awesomeness.
I was 10 years old when my dad got me a good gaming PC (to spite my technophobic mom) and this was the game that came with my graphics card.
I thought it was pretty good
Yes flawed, but it is still a cult classic (in my eyes it is).
I love this game.
Horror shooter
Stealth assassin
Hunter killer
3 different campaigns.
Idk, I certainly loved it.
Yes the finisher moves take time and can get you killed. That's why you don't use them in a crowd of bad guys.
Have you played Project Snowblind,Area 51 and Chaser?
It took me a year to find this game, and when I played it I thought it was decent, but it was like one of those games that you play the entire campaign one time and never touch it again.
Legendary game that offered an experience way ahead of its time. Thank you for reviewing this awesome classic
Playing as a Marine was fun, and playing as predator was amazing. Honestly not a bad game.
Lol just saw your comment about the pulse rifle being underpowered and yeah when there's multiple aliens coming at you things are tense lol
I loved this game. All campaigns were awesome. The alien campaign was my favorite though.
Domination on Gateway in a full lobby went HARD
I think all the pulse rifles in the game is ammunition that is very under power so to preserve the xenos XENOS
I want rebelión to make another AvP game for ps4 or ps5, I don’t care just want another game form this universe.
Still I think the lack of a crouch doesn't hurt mainly cause you start fighting synths a little pass the half way point and by then you're pretty well stocked on explosives or sniper rounds (but this is me assuming everyone keeps the sniper handy)
I do have to admit it's bullshit that the game changes your loadout every level but again I actually rather like the Pulse rifle in this game.
damn I got this game now on Steam sale, and have to say I am loving it!!!!
Same it's a cool game 😎
I remember Back in the Day,
I played this Online as a Marine
Vs like 4 Xenos the environment, lighting and music was perfect..
I laid waste to a couple of em until one snuck behind me up in the ceiling and
spammed the Tail Stabby attack..
hey gggmanlives. can you please to a review of predator concrete jungle? want to know if it's worth money and playthough.
I enjoyed the game. I heard they had trouble with Sega the publisher. They likely would’ve added more polish had they had the funds. But that’s many games I suppose
Needs a sequel game was amazing
Also need a predator concrete jungle sequel or open world predator game
The original Alien Vs Predator game came out in 1994 not 1999. It was developed by Rebellion and released on the Atari Jaguar.
Multiplayer was great until all alien players started to abuse "ambush stun" tactic.
Atleast they had dedicated servers but playing just "Team Death Match" aint gona work.
Should have been "Domination" or "capture point" to force all races to keep moving.
You use what works for you...I guess that tactic worked for them :)
awesome dude! Are we going to get a double review weekend?
I wanted to, but my internet is being crappy and uploading is super slow. That's Australia for you.
Oh well there's always next weekend!
Hey GGGman. Will you also do a review of Arx Fatalis?
Probably. I think it sucks to be honest, it's aged like shit. But I know lots of people with disagree with my opinion of it so I'm a bit hesitant.
Gggmanlives
The only thing I find annoying about it is the way you have to cast spells.
Gggmanlives
More like Morrowind because, Dark Messiah wasn't released yet back then.
Yeah I only mean because it was the same dev team.
Excellent vid! started creating some apps myselve, what do you think?
i actually really enjoyed this game it was also one of my fav games on ps3 although id rather it on pc now the predator and alien combat was fun too the predators spear was awesome
