That it has to be explained that software includes physical software is ridiculous. While they can always have only one or the other, until otherwise stated it means both.
I think the reason why people were jumping to those terrible conclusions is because of gamer’s hatred for Nintendo when it comes to emulations and “them lacking in preserving media”
which is based on a completely wrong notion that they "hate" emulation, instead of just being overprotective of their IPs, which people care about somehow because "corporate bad piracy good"? And it's crazy to be calling them out specifically as bad at preserving media when they are literally the last bastion for physical releases and against live service games among big game publishers (though they seem to start moving away from it slowly) the amount of misinformation about nintendo propagated by ignorant gamers hurts my head every time i see them
Nintendo would NOT say that they have "backwards compatibility" and ONLY support digital versions. It's impossible to explain to consumers and this was consumer communication.
If they were going to cut off physical backwards compatibility, they wouldn't have gone through the trouble of commissioning NVidia to make a new processor in the same architecture as the switch. People are also saying the reason they suddenly got so aggressive against switch emulators is because NSW2 software would be compatible with them with minor work, which would not be a good look.
Makes no sense for them to confirm backwards compatibility to be digital only when physical sales are still a huge part of their sales. You're either looking to bait for controversy or just ignorant in the way Nintendo do things. All of their previous hardware with backwards compatibility have a way for you play your cartridges and discs. I don't see why that would change with the Switch 2.
None of this confusion was made when Sony announced the PS5 would have backwards compatibility with PS4 games. People just tend to treat Nintendo as some old geyser company not equip for the west consumption lol.
Maybe I'm wrong but I think the guy who said that about the backwards compatibility is the same guy who got his website blacklisted by Valve after they decided to ignore Valve's warning asking people playing the beta/alpha of their next game to please not leak any information or post any screenshots, and instead of admitting he was wrong he decided to start acting like a clown on Twitter for who knows how many days. He used to at least look like a serious dude but lately it's getting hard to take him seriously.
Computer Programs [including video games] have ALWAYS, since the very beginning, have been referred to as software... MicroSOFT, SquareSOFT, etc. They make SOFTWARE... Goodness I can't with the stupidity out there. Granted we didn't get a guaranteed that physical and digitial software will be backwards compatible, so that much I can say lets wait and see. Hopefully it does.
No need to say hopefully! Physical media are big with Nintendo, so if they say it’s backward compatible- it means it is for both. They are not stupid and can’t afford any official press release stunts. The president of N didn’t say it will be only digitally compatible so that’s it. This are such stupid click baits.
I am pretty sure that both Sony and Microsoft also call physical games software so how does anyone come to this conclusion. Also, I think that announcing the backwards compatibility might help hardware sales in addition to software. Anyone thinking of getting a Switch now will know that if they decide later down the line to get a Switch 2 will be able to play the games that they are purchasing now.
5:25 I'm curious to see how third-party relationships will improve on the Switch's successor. Most people would argue that the Switch has received some of the best third-party support out of all Nintendo's consoles in the last 10 or so years, but I would argue that previous consoles like the DS, Wii and 3DS got more original third-party games, most of the Switch's library have been late ports, with few original games like Monster Hunter: Rise, Bayonetta 3, Shin Megami Tensei V and Momotaro Dentetsu. I can understand that some developers got caught off guard by the Switch's success and that its hardware limitations make developing and porting games difficult, but I find it kind of frustrating that many developers and publishers took so long to release certain games to the Switch until late into its lifetime (like Ace Combat and Yakuza) or that some games didn't even came out on the Switch at all (like Call of Duty or Tekken) I hope some developers already have titles planned to release early on the Switch's successor
We'll get a healthy amount of PS4 ports from Japanese third parties early on. That's to be expected as the market leader in Japan. The question is more about how can Nintendo get these bigger publishers to include Switch 2 for their newest games. The original despite being a runaway success with a massive install base to tap in to was still looked down on as a 3rd or 4th platform for many of these bigger studios.
This OJ's explanation seems solid & logical, BUT (there's always someone's butt😂) we still don't know how exactly Nintendo understands the notion of software nowadays. What he is implying to was true at least 10 years ago. In the modern-age IT sphere software means DIGITAL product (program or app) in the FIRST place. Physical carrier is a secondary thought now. So I wouldn't talk about it so bland🤔😓😤
They specifically said "customers will be able to play software they OWN" you do not own digital media. It would be a huge oversight for Nintendo to use this language if they didn't include physical games.
I think with consoles, graphics have a diminishing return, they should work on stylizing games. I like Nintendo’s approach, just make a cheap console that have “good enough” graphics and just focus on the games.. I would prefer to play an anime looking game rather than a realistic game
What is OJ bragging about? The Switch 2 isn’t being shown off in 2024 because N wants Xmas sales. They’ll show it off in Jan and launch in May. Everything he says about “the average consumer” is meaningless as Nintendo won’t show it off this year. Eg. Xmas sales DO matter, esp games.
Isn't Microsoft obligated to publish Call of Duty games on Nintendo consoles for ten years after the purchase of Activision? I remember one of Activision's execs mentioned that the company regretted not releasing a single CoD on the Switch, not even a port of an older game in the series, because they didn't have faith that the Switch would be that popular. We'll see if their attitude will change when Nintendo's new console is released.
@@pablocasas5906 , they obligated cause Microsoft beg Nintendo to save them for their acquisition ... It was expected for Xbox to lose the acquisition but Microsoft making a deal with Nintendo saves the whole argument Sony trying to pushed against the lawsuit. In short Nintendo switch with 146+ Million users + the successor is big platform so the idea of COD monopoly is broke because of the deal.
We really don't need to be talking about Tronald Dump here. And Switch is excellent in success; Switch 2 will continue what it started and perhaps be faster selling.
In Japanese, physical games in stores are in Software or /Sofuto/ ソフト section. So, yes. Sofuto for them is games. In general.

I hope a Nintendo Select line is paired with a price drop, presumably early 2025?
I'm sure we'll still see Cyberpunk 2077 on Switch 2

The only physical media that still makes sense are Nintendo Switch cartridges.

It really comes down to the bias that people have.

Optimistic interpretation is not necessary Truth. What hasn't been said yet, hasn't been said.
I get what you are saying, but I'm still worried Nintendo may pull a "Nintendo" and not allow Switch 1 physical cartridges to be played on it.
So with Resident Evil games do they make the physical version for Switch 2? If so then I'll buy them as I stayed away from the damn cloud version.

Great video, OJ!
It was obvious they would never reveal the next thing before the new year

Literally why January, that’s right off the holidays, February would make more sense
If the Switch 2 is around PS4-PS4 Pro performance I don't see a reason why we wouldn't see more AAA 3rd party games on the next Switch.
I check out Nintendo Forecast video on the Nintendo financial meeting ya they gonna have more 3rd party support
Switch 2 will be a victim of Trump‘s coming trade wars
Now that Death Stranding got a surprise release on Xbox today, I wonder if it could run on the Switch 2, I mean, it was a PS4 game after all
lol 😂😂😂 still going with the ps4 level CATCH UP ITS RUNNING PS5 games enough already with the derp it will blow ps4 /pro away
You wake up early brother. Thanks for the content

Breaking news: Nintendo switch 2 games is compatible on Nintendo switch 😅😅😅
Thank god someone with a brain is a Nintendo you tuber
I'm starting to doubt Metroid Prime 4 will ever come out.
It's literally coming out in 2025 😂, what are you talking about lol
I'm doubting that you are doubting.
Really can't believe some people are questioning whether physical counts as software. Games are considered hardware now?
Another reason why the All Digital Future is bad.
People not knowing software also come in physical forms.
Kids, have you heard of a CD? 💿
hi OJ
Is Call of Duty games coming to sucesor Switch. And is Microsoft only one to deliver COD to a New Switch Successor?
Current switch can't handle COD... Cod is the most laziest games ever made, Low optimization and no Decompression file
Isn't Microsoft obligated to publish Call of Duty games on Nintendo consoles for ten years after the purchase of Activision?

Switch 2 will sell very poorly in the US due to Trump‘s tariffs. If it even gets released there.
