It feels like Super Mario RPG gets the praise it gets because it was the first mario rpg title and people have hard nostalgia goggles for it. But really, it's the most barebones Mario RPG (i don't count Sticker Star and the following paper mario games are RPGs).
@okagron Agreed. It's important as it brought the world of RPG'S into an Mario game. But as an game itself, it is nothing that special. I guess it is nostalgia that people seem to over praised it. But that's the same with something like Super Mario 64 or Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Link Between Worlds and Super Mario 3D World give me CRAZY Christmas nostalgia, since they were two of those "you can pick and open one present on Christmas Eve" presents, Mario one year and Zelda the next I think. The first few hours of Link Between Worlds especially gives me liminal Christmas vibes because my family would always drive to this gigantic display of Christmas lights that was like 40 minutes away and always had a ton of traffic at that time of year since everyone wanted to see it and walk through it. So being a handheld game, Link Between Worlds filled my attention on the drive there and back that night :D Doesn't hurt that Link Between Worlds is the best top-down 2D Zelda game don't @ me my opinion is the correct one also no I haven't played Link's Awakening why do you ask

yeah I’m not really seeing what he means with those comments lol. Neither felt deflating to me, but I guess he was just looking for a different reaction from himself on launch
I think on release week yeah it was magical. But I also agree that Ultimate and 4 aren't perfect and have some flaws to them. Mainly lack of good single player, and (imo) online support.
Skyward Sword was mostly alright, and I'd say I like it except for a couple things, with a big thing that prevented me from ever wanting to play it again, is on my second play through, the harp did not want to work properly. The remote was just being extremely jank and made it almost impossible to get past the mandatory parts. Then there's the optional stuff involving the harp I couldn't do, making it a Zelda game that it was physically impossible for me to 100% on the Wii. Supposedly you don't require motion controls on the Switch version, but I just don't feel like sinking more money into the game.
I don't know what Scott was going on about how people can't say it's a good game when I can say it's mediocre at best. The game has next to no exploration, it's overly linear it even compared to Twilight Princess, it's ridiculous easy, there's legit one good dungeon and that's Ancient Cistern (the rest range from decent to bad), it removed a bunch of great stuff from Twilight Princess like being able to swing your sword while running, the finnicky controls at no point feel like second nature, and it's padded to shit. He was saying that game having dozens upon dozens of hours like it was a good thing when it isn't, the game is padded to the brim with mundane, repetitive sidequests that make the player go through all regions three times each. For a while i never understood why i was so exhausted by the end of the game, but it's the padding that causes that. It was so bad that i took like a month break to actually finish it. The game is everything wrong with 3D Zelda games and it's no surprise Breath of the Wild is the way it is.
You say that Super Mario Odyssey doesn’t have much replay value, which is fair, but when I bothered to replay it in 2023, it got 10x better for me. It’s on par with Galaxy for me now.
It's super replayable, just not if you're going for 100% every time. The second time I played it, I was happy to put it down after beating the Darker Side of the Moon. After that point, the remainder of the moons start to feel like a grind.
@@colin8802 I disagree. Mario (specifically 3D Mario) is probably my favorite game fracnhise of all time, and even I struggle to find the motivation to replay Odyssey. The first time feeling of exploring the worlds and trying to find all the things is what motivates you to keep going, but after you know where everything is and know what everything does, there's not much of a reason to play again aside from Mario's excellent movement options.
@@SuspiciousScout I get why some people feel this way. Maybe it's because there isn't a mission-based structure where it's always somewhat clear what you're trying to do. Instead you just wander around and basically stumble upon moons, many of which could be considered "filler". I wonder if people would enjoy replaying it more if there were a separate mode with that mission structure and only the moons that take effort to acquire.
@@colin8802 That probably would help a lot. Previous Mario games having straight up beginnings and endings to grabbing stars or shine sprites had clearer goals and structures in mind. It also just allowed Nintendo to craft a path to those stars be more interesting and having more deliberate obstacles in the way. Many of the levels in Galaxy 1 and 2 make me think of this where each star in the same galaxy felt very different in the way you grabbed it, sometimes including entirely new areas. In comparison, since Odyssey is so open ended, the only thing Nintendo could really do is just have a bunch of hidden stuff to keep your interest outside of those dedicated challenge rooms via warp pipes.
I mean, i have 1123 hours on the game rn, around 90 for a 100% first playtrough, and i found replay value in speedrunning and learning glitches cause i found the movement in the game to be super smooth and enjoyable. I understand not many people get that appeal though.
"Not a lot of people talk about Radiant Dawn." If only Scott was more in tune with what's going on with Fire Emblem games. Fans really want it and Path of Radiance to be re-released on modern platforms.

Respect your craft Scott. The dedication and effort is admirable too. I love watching your content because you have a genuine interest in video games that reveres the art form and medium.
The Mario overload in 2023 was largely because of the Mario Movie. They wanted to ride the Mario hype train while they could. May also be the reason Mario Wonder felt rushed in some places.
Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Kong Country 2, Donkey Kong Country 3, Diddy Kong Racing, Donkey Kong 64, Donkey Kong Country Returns, all holiday titles and then... Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze was due for November, then delayed to December, then delayed again to February... And we never got a new Donkey Kong game ever again.
It’s definitely very replayable (heck, I’ve played it four times and counting), but it’s not the easiest Mario game to replay. It’s kind of a heavy game with a lot of collectibles, and a single moon is not as substantial as a single star in Mario 64 or galaxy. Those games had substantial content behind each and every star, meaning that on repeat playthroughs, you’ll likely find new and substantive content. And because there are just so many moons with repeated ideas, repeat playthrough aren’t always as satisfying. Not every moon is substantive. In addition, the sheer amount of moons means that the game is less structured. In the past games, stars were more like “missions.” In this game, there are just so many of them that it makes the overall experience less structured and overall harder to jump into over and over again. It’s still an amazing game no matter what! I really went off, sorry this is so long. Thanks for reading it! 💖
@@ExiAsWellI think Scott nailed the difference between the design of Odyssey versus 64/Sunshine/Galaxy. Stars and Moons don’t represent the same thing. Moons are rewards for exploration, Stars are just signs that you’ve completed the level. If you’re replaying Galaxy, it’s about playing every level again. That’s going to be a more similar experience to your first play-through than exploring Odyssey again.
@ absolutely! Odyssey is a very different kind of game than the previous ones, and it’s because of that… well, I just don’t really wanna replay it anytime soon.
As far as the open sandbox/collecthon 3D Mario games between 64, Sunshine & Odyssey goes, Odyssey is the best one. 64 is an important game, but it's very dated and the game gets obnoxious later on. Sunshine has the same state as 64 has, but worst IMO because of the game being more obnoxious and it can be buggy. Odyssey vastly makes QOL improvements over them and it's much more polished.
city folk is overhated (it was my childhood game so im nostalgic) because it's similar to wild world, but it's precious to me, but i literally cannot stand to play it again because it makes me so nostalgic (even seeing the game cover makes me want to burst into tears lol)
Always a good day when Scott uploads a movie to Scott's stash. I will share my personal experience and opinion about Animal Crossing city Folk: i grew up playing the gamecube Animal Crossing game with my siblings and absolutely loved it. When City Folks released on Wii, not only were we looking forward to it so much, but it was pretty game changing in our eyes. I would say it is important to note that going from the Gamecube to the Wii is significant, you could play online at friends worlds or bring friends to your worlds which was new for Nintendo and Animal Crossing on consoles. There really was a ton of content in the game aswell and added on way more progression on top of what we were used to in the GC game. Just my personal experience
Just gotta find the right people. I played the shit out of the switch port, even getting a 3 star file😂 i missed it quite a bit cus I don’t have a 3ds atm.
12:25 I think they release a lot of party games in October cause the 2 major family holidays are right after. So for family gatherings and friends that celebrate together, they can have a copy of the latest mario game for everyone to play? At least that’s what I think Nintendo hopes to happen
We called holiday titles as Fall or Winter blockbuster titles like with Call of Duty, Battlefield, Assassin’s Creed, that are released during that season to generate sale numbers for the gaming company!
19:46 Couldn't agree more. I got to a point in Age of Calamity where I was just grinding for materials and I didn't give a crap about the DLC if it was more of the same.
The key feature of the Switch was that in table top mode you could hand someone a joycon and play a 2 player game. After the lockdown I've noticed Nintendo increased marketing for their online subscriptions (subscriptions bundled with games). This holiday season I could see Nintendo offering an OLED Switch Choose One Bundle (at retail price) similar to last years Red Box Switch Choose One Bundle. The choices this winter season would be: Mario Party Jamboree, Echoes of Wisdom, and...

So being a handheld game, Link Between Worlds filled my attention on the drive there and back that night :D
Doesn't hurt that Link Between Worlds is the best top-down 2D Zelda game don't @ me my opinion is the correct one also no I haven't played Link's Awakening why do you ask
It's borderline criminal how forgotten Magical Starsign has become at this point.
Smash ultimate being underwhelming?? Scott, that release week was absolutely magical.
Edit: Smash Wii U also?? I guess Scott just really doesn’t like smash that much. Smash Wii U was an awesome Christmas
yeah I’m not really seeing what he means with those comments lol. Neither felt deflating to me, but I guess he was just looking for a different reaction from himself on launch
Likely he was underwhelmed by the single player experiences after enjoying Brawl when he was younger
I think on release week yeah it was magical. But I also agree that Ultimate and 4 aren't perfect and have some flaws to them. Mainly lack of good single player, and (imo) online support.
It had less single player than any entry since 64 and hardly any new features. But it has Pichu!
@@jaretco6423 read my comment again and see if you can figure out whether I'm talking about my own opinion or hypothesizing about someone else's
1:17:30 ANOTHER Shadows of Almia mention?! In MY Scott's Stash video?!
My night has once again been blessed.
Glad to see Nintendo definitely knows how to deliver with their holiday titles
"Age of clamtitties"
Skyward Sword was mostly alright, and I'd say I like it except for a couple things, with a big thing that prevented me from ever wanting to play it again, is on my second play through, the harp did not want to work properly. The remote was just being extremely jank and made it almost impossible to get past the mandatory parts. Then there's the optional stuff involving the harp I couldn't do, making it a Zelda game that it was physically impossible for me to 100% on the Wii. Supposedly you don't require motion controls on the Switch version, but I just don't feel like sinking more money into the game.
This makes me glad I got the Switch version.
@@okagron you lost me when you said the game was easy and that Ancient Cistern was the only good dungeon. You're a BOTW shill.
0:00 My pet goat giving me a Christmas present:
Huh?
"Not a lot of people talk about Radiant Dawn." If only Scott was more in tune with what's going on with Fire Emblem games. Fans really want it and Path of Radiance to be re-released on modern platforms.
Thank you Scott, you’re really helping me feel better right now
Hope your life improves
14:07 so fun fact, they're actually the ds games with a new coat of paint, literally, turns out they pretty much have the same code as the og releases of diamond and pearl even having the same softlock on the ice gym than the og games had, because they were the exact same thing
And imfamous glitches from the og game such as the bike one even still work
Reason number #5913 that BDSP is an awful mess.
I'm pretty sure Kirbys RTDL Deluxe has more new code than BDSP.
Respect your craft Scott. The dedication and effort is admirable too. I love watching your content because you have a genuine interest in video games that reveres the art form and medium.
54:23 Scott having a Shiny Weedle named NICE BUG feels right.
For me Mario Odyssey is the most replayable Mario game of all. I’ve played it at least 7 times through
It’s definitely very replayable (heck, I’ve played it four times and counting), but it’s not the easiest Mario game to replay.
Mario Party is consistently in our kids' Christmas Eve box, and it's what we all play together over Christmas / New Year instead of Monopoly.
i love these long videos of scott just rambling, my favorite companion to put on the background
city folk is overhated (it was my childhood game so im nostalgic) because it's similar to wild world, but it's precious to me, but i literally cannot stand to play it again because it makes me so nostalgic (even seeing the game cover makes me want to burst into tears lol)

My favorite was in 2014. Super smash Bros for Wii U and pokémon Omega Ruby and alpha Sapphire came out the same day. It was expensive but amazing.
The Chad 8/10 paper Mario sticker star vs the virgin 5/10 Mario and Luigi brother ship.
The game just came out...
Wow 23 seconds old, so glad to be here.
We need a sequel covering every year prior to 2006 NOW!!
This feels like the most I've ever heard Scott talk about Pokemon. And he doesn't like Pokemon, so it wasn't pleasant.
Perfect opening. I asked for that for Christmas lol.
sorry to hear that
Great to hear you liked the game!
Scott sounds like a goat at the very beginning
Luigi’s mansion 2 never gets the love it deserves.
Just gotta find the right people. I played the shit out of the switch port, even getting a 3 star file😂 i missed it quite a bit cus I don’t have a 3ds atm.
I think it's alright. Can't say if it's better than 3.
It's an good game. But the mission structure based really does bring the game down to me.
It’s so bad compared to the other two wdym
@@haroldasusus4684 gotta re-read what he said, he says it’s just inferior compared to the other two, not that it’s bad which i agree.

12:25 I think they release a lot of party games in October cause the 2 major family holidays are right after. So for family gatherings and friends that celebrate together, they can have a copy of the latest mario game for everyone to play? At least that’s what I think Nintendo hopes to happen
Why did he say “lineup” like Trump 25:08
Lmao he did
Just realize how scott pronouces Pokémon as "POKOMON"
I have no idea how Scott manages to put out as much content as he does.
Scott, what do you like about Pokémon Scarlet and Violet besides it being open world?
The fact that Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope released on my birthday is something I'll have to live with for the rest of my life.
Scott’s reoccurring trauma and remorse for 2015 will forever be entertaining to me.
I got my Switch in 2018 for Smash and I have ZERO regrets about that.
Mario & Luigi: Brothership is this year's Holiday title.
We called holiday titles as Fall or Winter blockbuster titles like with Call of Duty, Battlefield, Assassin’s Creed, that are released during that season to generate sale numbers for the gaming company!
rahhh new scott stash 🔥🔥
I swear, Scott's gonna talk about Nintendo Apparel next.
Scott is the GOAT
19:46 Couldn't agree more. I got to a point in Age of Calamity where I was just grinding for materials and I didn't give a crap about the DLC if it was more of the same.
What the hell, i loved Super Mystery Dungeon
the general consensus is that pokemon ranger is an underappreciated gem :O

You are validating all of my Nintendo purchases for the last 6 years 😅❤
6 years?! Please, try 16 😅😅
Excellent video! Go all the way back to the original nintendo launch!

Scott really invented the "month and year this game came out" type game
The key feature of the Switch was that in table top mode you could hand someone a joycon and play a 2 player game. After the lockdown I've noticed Nintendo increased marketing for their online subscriptions (subscriptions bundled with games). This holiday season I could see Nintendo offering an OLED Switch Choose One Bundle (at retail price) similar to last years Red Box Switch Choose One Bundle. The choices this winter season would be: Mario Party Jamboree, Echoes of Wisdom, and...
Definitely make more of these. This was a great video
Scott, you're NOT an RPG guy!
